In the words of the late, great Julius Caesar: Veni vidi vici! Todd Rundgren came, saw and was
victorious in Copenhagen. It was an All Singing, All Dancing show! It featured several deep track
songs that really must have taken a heavy toll on Todd's vocal cords, among them an acapella
(obviously) version of Honest Work, where Todd was joined by Kasim and Bruce. There was nary a
break between songs, and there where few obvious crowd pleasers like Secret Society, Buffalo
Grass (In Cambria CA I gifted Todd a bottle of ZU Vodka spiked with Polish Bison grass), Rock Love
and Worldwide Ephipany. Needless to say the band: Gil Assyas on keys, Kasim Sulton on bass,
Prairie Prince on Drums, Bruce McDaniel on guitar and Bobby Strickland on sax and keys, was
superb and Todd handled his guitar parts, on the recently recovered Foamy, impeccably. Sound
was very good, although the volume could have been a bit louder. However fans familiar with the
setlist knows that the majority of songs was slow burners with a focus on Todd's singing prowess,
and he didn't disappoint us in that respect. What was curious, and have been reported on from
other shows on the European leg of the tour, was that Todd didn't address the audience with one
word, except once, with a bit of typical Todd screwball humour he said: "Thank You in Danish"
leaving the audience to translate for themselves. A guy in the audience yelled: "Thank you for
coming Todd", that made Todd smile just briefly. Otherwise the only words he spoke to the
audience was presenting the band. To my knowledge Todd has absolutely no problem speaking in
public, but this time around it made him look slightly aloof. He has claimed he was reserving his
voice for the songs, and that makes perfectly sense considering the nature of this show. Never the
less I somehow missed his usual banter and jokes. But all in all, as a diehard Todd fan, I was very
pleased, to say the least! I dragged my old school friend Bjarne (an avid rock concert goer but not
a Todd fan) along to the show, in order to broaden his cultural outlook. He pretty much
encapsulated the show with the remark: "He sings a lot!"
