Twin Towns Resort Tweed Heads
After seeing Todd play in Newcastle my family and I spent the next 4 days driving up the east coast of Oz in my rented van where we roughed it for 3 nights in caravan parks.
We arrived in Tweed Heads (the border between NSW and Queensland) to see Tr's last show of the tour.
This time the concert was in a resort/casino. We rewarded ourselves with a cheap but lavish executive suite. Believe it or not, after I stepped out on the balcony I discovered that Jesse was staying next door! The band must of thought I was stalking them!
The show was identical but in a showroom theatre. The sound was bigger that the Tuesday night and I was lucky enough to be in the second row front and centre.
During both concerts Todd made plenty of comical comments concerning his unwise decision to tour Australia playing Johnson tunes in 2010, the fact that he has only 2 hits in Australia and that I had to cover my daughter's ears during "Flaw."
Both shows were fantastic and Todd and the band impressed all with their musicianship and brilliant showcase of just a sample of TR's amazing discography.
The only downside. the showroom at Tweed Heads had plenty of vacant seats and the show was full of plenty of folks who wre not familiar with many of Todd's songs. I felt they were impressed with the show but I was hard pressed to find many people as excited and passionate as I am about Todd.
The two shows confirmed for me two things:
1. That Todd is a musical genius with a biting wit and amazing energy and....
2.That he is criminally underated and underappreciated (in this country) and that the general theme of my documentary (Todd Who?) is appropriate and well and truly confirmed.
