OK, I'll say it. I'm a 40+ year Todd head and he could do no wrong in my eyes. Until last night. I recognize that he is who he is and that he is who he is because he does things to please his ever changing artistic sense, not necessarily to please any audience. I'm fine with that and can even accept some things that don't turn me on right away (I hated No World Order on first listen, but it grew on me). I don't expect Todd to be the Todd of 1972. I'm all for his exploring other musical and technological frontiers. But State didn't work for me as an album and it didn't work for me in performance. I appreciated the technology, the lights, the hand dancing. But the overall presentation left me wishing Todd would stop noodling around in of his basement and start making more digestible music again. I don't think I'm the only one who thinks so and I do believe there are a fair number of sycophants among the faithful that aren't willing to admit the same. So, Todd, if you are listening, please leave the electronic music to Skilliex. Leave the reconstructions to Lady Gaga. If you really want to pick up a modern trend in music, how about doing some neo-soul on the order of Meyer Hawthorne. You could KILL that. Just sayin'. Can we still be friends?
