London Hammersmith Apollo show

I was fortunate enough to be in London on holiday to catch the Hammersmith Apollo show. I'd seen the show in Washington, DC, and I thought the London show was much better. Ethel was once again tight and energetic. JJ was a pro throughout, and the crowd especially loved his rendition of the 1913 song from his upcoming movie debut. TR was amazing, as always. He was using a black electric guitar with a powerful sound during most of his set that I didn't recall in DC.

The Hammersmith Apollo had closed off the balcony and seated everyone in the lower section, which was virtually full. Although it took too long for them to get to their seats, the crowd was respectful and appreciative.

Todd's voice was again in great form, and there was an ease in the transitions and interactions among the 3 artists that wasn't there in DC.

Here is TR's set list, based on my scribblings in the dark:

on guitar:
1. Lysistrata
2. Beloved Infidel
3. I Saw the Light (calypso style)
4. Cliche
5. Love of the Common Man

on piano: 6. Viking Song 7. Hawking 8. Hello It's Me

on ukulele: 9. Bang on the Drum

on guitar: 10. Afterlife 11. Black & White

with Ethel: 12. Lord Chancellor's Nightmare (incredible!) 13. Pretending to Care (bring tissues)

all: 14. Stood Up

encore: While My Guitar Gently Weeps

The show seems to be getting better as it goes along. As I've said in previous reviews, I don't mind the occasional flub. I cherish every live performance from this brilliant and talented artist - warts and all.
