Pompano, FL show 4/16

The last time that I saw Todd it was opening up for the Pretenders a few years back. It was at the Mizner Amphitheater in Boca Raton, FL, on a very cold January night (for Florida). I wasn't expecting a cold night again just a few miles south in Pompano Beach in mid-April, but it was chilly. Even Todd commented "This is as fun as a snowball fight".

Todd's set was very solid and his singing was better than I'd heard in awhile. The trio of songs from FAITHFUL - "Love of the Common Man", the surprising "Black and White" and a superb "Clich&ecaute;" were only eclipsed by the contemplative "Tiny Demons" ("really tiny"). I think this and "Beloved Infidel" were the best two of the night.

As one other reviewer commented here, I think Todd works much better with a group. After living with "Hello It's Me" for almost 40 years, you'd think he could finish it without making gross mistakes. This was the case the last few times I'd seen him. I think this may be brought on by ADD (I'm serious!), but it doesn't seem like he wants to practice. This is understandable because he is still pushing the envelope with his music, but he's still gotta "get out of bed and make that bread". Love ya Todd!
