There is nothing more enjoyable than seeing a band of slap happy, road weary musicians put on a great show for the fans, and themselves. After seeing both Cleveland shows where they were still working off some of the rough edges, I could tell the songs had now taken on a life of their own. The opening set was powerful. The whole concert flowed . I was on the 2nd row main floor and could enjoy the interaction of the band and obvious inside jokes that had developed throughout the tour. The band played great. Jessis had some great leads. When he broke a string and left the stage Kasim, Prairie, and John launched into a killer jazz type improv. It was choice! TODDs singing was noticably perfect many times during the set. On the other hand, at one point Todd would sing a phrase and Jessie would repeat it on guitar and it became halirious as Todd practiced the art of the absurd , great fun. His comments on Reagans death and Bush were perfect given the numerology of the day. By the end of the show I was against the stage right in front of Todds amp and got to hear it straight instead of through the p.a. on JOV. Guess I was the lucky guy. It rocked.
After the show due to some stage door onionheads I only got a drive by hand shake from Kasim and didnt get a chance to ask him, or any of the band about the great recorded music they were playing before the show started . They went out through the bathroom window. One of my fave concerts.
