Sunday night, August 3, 2003 in Richmond, Virginia at the Canal Club was fantastic. A small crowd of fans and newcomers saw a memorable solo performance by the Wizard and True Star...Todd Rundgren. Todd was in excellent voice...excellent... and he executed stunning vocal " licks " that remind us of that soulful , heartfelt spirit that he has always possessed. I did not write down the set list...but certain songs come to mind, like " Beloved Infadel "( very moving...maybe preferable to " The Individualist " version ), "Influenza", " Compassion " ( extremely well done and standing ovation time), " I Don't Want to Tie You Down ", " It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference "...many more...he performed for almost two hours. Todd enjoyed himself. Those who prefer electric Todd with band & ensemble should rush to see this solo gig...I believe you will see that Todd is focused, raw and eager and his demeanor in a solo setting is very appealing and crowd pleasing. Todd did well on the piano..in fact...piano moments are some of the best of this show. When you hear Todd stripped of band mates and band sound...you hear this catalogue of material that though familiar, sounds fresh and full of nuances...

Rush to see Todd in this setting...take newcomers to the show...enjoy.
