As an attendee of the August 10 Balloon Fest in Weymouth, MA I can tell you that music and balloons do not necessarily mix. The concert stage for this event was set up in front of an airplane hanger on a decommissioned Naval Airbase. Quite the ambiance. Quite the crowd.
During a particulary emotional (it might have been partly due to the heat) rendering of "Parallel Lines", the crowd , in one movement, diverted their collective attention from the stage, rose to their feet to slack jaw gawk at some latex monstronsity that was heading quickly and stealthily right for the stage.
Our man held his ground, performed without missing a beat, and the balloon floated up and harmlessly away into the pinky dusk.
Some little kid next to me kept chanting "Nigel, Nigel, Nigel...". Exactly who or what did this kid's parents tell him about the concert? Some of us just turned it up to 11 and tuned this kid and the distractions out.
