I would first like to say how terrific everyone was at the show. We were really concerned that one bad scene would have spoiled it for all of us and perhaps hindered anything like this happening again. From what I gathered, Todd was very pleased with the evening and expressed his positive feelings to my wife and I after the show.
So..., where to begin...!! What a memorable, special evening.
While attending the Canyon Dinner Club show in Agoura Hills, CA. the week before, my wife and I met Bob from Las Vegas and his wife as well as Jeff (with the smoking ‘Initiation’ tee-shirt) and they mentioned to us how this event was going to happen the following weekend. After the show, we were backstage and met Todd and he told us how to contact Debbie Sommer and gave us a few other details of the upcoming show. He too did not know at that point where it was going to be held...!!! We had a good visit with him and contacted Debbie the next day. After many e-mails and phone calls with her, we were set up and going to be on our way to Frisco for the show with my Brother and Sister in Law, Alex & Tina Byrnes, first time Todd concert goers...!!!! What a way to begin...!!
After appetizers and drinks at Kuletos, and a $120.00 bill....????, we made our way over to Mason Street. A fierce bed outside, a stairway that reminded me of many a club in New York City in the 1970’s, and a few very cool security and guest list people at the top of the landing. A very atmospheric studio, hardwood floors, and a keg to boot. The imagery is something....
After meeting Todd so many times over the years, beginning with at his home in Lake Hill, NY in 1980, and seeing 20 shows in four different states, this venue and group was something of a calling for me. I felt like I was in my living room, in my home. It was really special for me to be sitting on the floor and watching him perform for such an intimate group of really devoted, supportive fans. A 30 year veteran musical superstar doing this for 130 of us. It should truly tell you something about how very sincere and special a person Todd Rundgren is. He recognizes the people who have supported and been there for him throughout what I consider to be the most diverse rock-n-roll career by any performer, ever. We also really enjoyed meeting and talking with Rex Rundgren after the show. It was so strange thinking of when I met his Mom Karen in upstate NY, also in 1980, while she was pregnant with him. Unbelievable...
I want to thank all of you for making this a wonderful memory for my wife and I and we look forward to being a part of the next ‘Special Evening’. Perhaps Santa Barbara is a thought....????
Thanks also to Roger Linder for this terrific web-site.
With a Handshake in Thought to all of you in our little community...
