come easy naturally train star sunshine light boys do submarine salty hammer greatest no no back off free all right yo man bang white whiter photo
the stage is a psychedelic menagerie of colors. ringo's red shirt, TR-i's multicolored light silk shirt from the total I tour with bright flourescent patterned bell-bottoms, and a stage backdrop full of deep blue sky, bright yellow sunflowers, and big sparkly stars. it's oh so berkeley.
the venue is in the vein of radio city, rounded theatre type with multiple balconies. not a bad seat in the large, well-ventilated room.
the set list is the same except for salty dog replacing conquistador.
TR-i is getting spoiled with guitar techs handing him guitar after perfectly-tuned guitar along with towels, & water for the mostly static nightly set.
no opening act. the lights went down and 'it don't come easy' started around 8:30pm.
the bay area welcomed this band with open arms. everyone enjoyed the show and got along great. even the beatles fan's kids were screaming, "go ringo, go ringo, go ringo, it's your birthday..."
TR-i gets leid after 'hammer'. a thick bright scarlet red string of carnations, azaelias, or something RED. what were they?
something's wrong; i'm starting to get into the ringo toons. i found myself singing 'boogaloo' on the way home. yikes.
timmy has a sax solo at the end of 'i am the greatest' when jack, TR-i and tim pogo-stick up and down for a few bars. the vertically challenged jack tries to keep up with our lanky hero and muscle boy. this is way too funny to put into words.
'salty dog'. perhaps i'm too young to appreciate this toon, but it doesn't gel with the set, especially sandwiched between 'yellow submarine' and 'hammer in my heart'.
the venue's big, prolly seats upwards of 2000. the sound got muddied and lost in the reverb at times.
street parking in a college town.
at times, capello plays these electronic percussion pads. when played fast, they lag in time to the beat.. a nitpick that's been bugging me.
i get paid every time they do it
[editor's note: did anyone else notice that TR broke a string on the fool guitar during 'all right now', gave it to a tech, then immediately started 'i wanna be your man' with *another* Fool guitar? can they change strings in ten seconds or less these days? hmmmm...]
