Largest Collection On The Globe of Todd Rundgren Audio Rarities

Greetings Audio Toddheads! Warren H. (Atlanta, GA. USA) here. Tony Rogers and I have transferred our entire audio collections over to my home in 2008. We (Tony & I) thought my circumstances (A 62 year old, single, IT specialist/Audio Editor guy in Atlanta with lots of Todd Rundgren history/archival collecting since 1972) would be ideal for taking over the 'Library' in all its glory. And, so an 'incorporation' of his and my colossal collections takes place! I now curate this ‘museum’. And I plan to share much of this, just as Tony did all these decades. And yes, I’m somewhat of a Todd Rundgren Historian. I have been 'following' Todd extensively (in all forms of media) ever since I saw (and met) him here at an Historic Show at Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theatre on November 8 1973. So I know 'enough'. Please note that I say share my enthusiasm. No buying or selling. Nor will a penny exchange hands. Never.
I want to say a big THANK YOU in advance to all of you who are going to help and have helped with this so far. I’ll do my best. Write me anytime. twarrenh@gmail.com
Just scroll down to the items listed below by period and click on any year to browse the collection.
We've also recently been working in collaboration with my friend Frank Bubnick and his well known vast quality collection (you can visit his list by clicking on his name). Some of his editing is unequaled anywhere.
And some late breaking neat news : I believe most of you are familiar with the JEMS group. A bunch of super collectors for many bands’ audience recordings (predominate though are Yes and Springsteen). Well known for their re-mastering prowess and quality. They’ve been in contact with me for a couple of years, and in December of last year offered me all their (originals) Todd Rundgren Collection. They just didn’t have the resources or the time for refining anything by Todd Rundgren. It just wasn’t on their timeline. I received all their cassettes (60) within a few weeks! Most of them are MASTER tapes from the original Taper. They will be sending me all their DATs and Reels at a later date. I will be listing all these recordings here, as I digitally transfer them. With this addition of the JEMS collection I believe these Todd Rundgren Archives are easily the largest collection on the planet.
How do we share you ask? Well, Just for what it's worth, we really don't do the 'snail mail trading' (by postal) much these days. So, if you would like me to share or trade any of this 'Catalog' with you, it would be more convenient/easiest to share in the form of on-line file transfer. Generally, in .flac format, compressed to .zip or .rar for smoother/faster quality exchange [depending upon the size of the audio file(s) we might be exchanging of course]. Hope that all makes sense. I can work with you on 'all that'. Again, write me, and then we'll come to an agreement of sorts. Please keep in mind, that anything that is 'Official', or 'Professionally Marketed', or still available for 'Retail' purchase is not of consideration. Nor is there any monetary means of transaction.
I do not have any rights to, and I am not open for sharing any material that may be listed below that has been commercially or officially released and is still available retail. (It may be listed below for collection listing purpose only). I do not take or give any money for a single item below either. I do not take away any proceeds that are due to Todd Rundgren, family, friends, business or supporting/associated musicians. If it is ROIO (recording of independent origin), then I'm open to share. Support the artist! Go buy his stuff where and whenever available! Speaking of which; an ultimate place to find/buy Todd's releases and imports & rarities is TRBAZAAR. Check it out! If Scott ain't got it, nobody does...just about! And of course many past official CD/DVD releases and proprietary Todd merchandise is readily available for ordering on-line at The Toddstore. So check them out for sure.
I like to give credit where credit is due too. So please forgive me if I do not credit the right persons involved in making these recordings available/possible for all these years.
I’ll start a ‘Credits’ list here below, and maintain it on down the road. Like to make sure all the folks involved are appreciated. For now, let me go ahead and thank some folks that have really been instrumental in these archives (no particular order): Tony Rogers (of course), Mike Armes, Jeff Gauss 'Weavil' (RIP), Frank Bubnick, Paul Russo, Hiroshi Kawauchi, Istvan Berzenczei, Sara Kritzer, Barry Beiseigel, Marc Linowitz, Rob 'Lockjaw' Levangie, Roger Steel, Mike Adrian, Gil Ireland-Ashley, Jim Farrell, Dale Michelsohn, Gary Urwin, Don B., Bob Stanislowski (RIP), Micheal B., Jon Risen, Jon Babcock, Mark Wilpolt, Tom Cannon, Lin Sprague, Joe Franks, Chris 'Razz', Geoff (& Rick) Laurenzo, Ted Moon, Richard Roys, Storm Hunter, Moz (Mike), Sohta Fujito, David Skye, Allen Law, Matt Walsh, Kevin Lewis, Doug Ford, Dave Knife, JEMS, Jared Houser, Gene Poole, 'Elegymart', Gail Artsgard, Victor Baissait, Connor Payne and players to be named later. Special thanks to Roger Linder for providing this page space for us for decades. Let's Rock!
BTW, I call this group of people 'My Cartel'. However, I have given the group a Media name: F451 Media (as in 451 Farenheit). It is not a brand name, for nothing of mine is for sale or has been sold EVER. It is a logo for these dedicated Todd Rundgren Collectors , which most of been doing this since the early 90s (and even earler). Our logo is:

Track List:CD ONE: BUFFALO GRASS. I HATE MY FRICKIN ISP. BLACK MARIA. SOUL BROTHER. MAMMON. FASCIST CHRIST. I SAW THE LIGHT. BLACK AND WHITE. LUNATIC FRINGE. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. DRIVE. TINY DEMONS. MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. SLUT. THE WALLS CAME DOWN. CD TWO: HAWKING. ONE WORLD.
Note:The venue sound is mid rangy but sound is adjusted in b grass, lots of energy is apparent from the get-go...bass not as huge as the Canada shows which makes this one easier to get for sure...its right where it should be in the mix...accents still hit and miss on BG...ISP...grrrrrrreat grrrrroove...fab bass runs by T Levin in verse part....BM- you know the band is ON...some flubs pop up but the groove is solid, very nice leads at the end some wandering by TR (good) and TL (sometimes good)...SB starts out odd and TR lyric flub but this is where it goes up and stays there...JM cooking on this-nice despite JG losing his guitar sound at the worst possible time (put your hands together...), when you can survive that and flourish, then this is your night..And it was, no doubt....Mammon...challenge for JG but he nails it spot on...TRs vice real strong (not ragged)...back vocs a bit lacking BT, nice recording of the stick -way better sound than in Canada..The low end is still lacking but it’s not anywhere near as invisible as Canada...can hear all he’s doing there, again near perfection by Jesse on this, seemingly one of the most difficult assignments of the night....FC takes a second to gel...and the stick does sound less low end on the this tune..Back vocals nice here and Todd sounds determined as hell on the lead...the solo is monstrous...a bit swanky to start with but about 80% off the cuff...the breakdown part is stellar as well and as good as this band ever played it prior...ISTL surprisingly passionate vocal, spirited performance..B&W...now here’s the one I have the hardest time with since JM/TL has played...and on the early shows, there is no breath in the song-it sounds almost rushed...this night it was a bit flat, Jesse really on his game, whammy nice and back voc not bad, another chance taking lead by Todd very varied from the rote but kind of low volume..No1 Lowest is the shows tour de force, that’s why Mike a had this at his review in mp3 format...killer...Moratta pushing the dynamics on scream part...'adlib city' by Todd at the end..Really mixes his bag o tricks up nicely...it is killer...Drive. Lead vocs incredibly stupid good...a bit fast...vocals as good as ever, ever...Middle of the tune rules...it bakes, it cooks...awesome...this and No. 1 is the peak of the night....all good from here on out, too...Tiny Demons...exquisite, JM snare rattling at start...great atmospheric solo by JG all little overtones and feedback blips, nice original thought expanding the idea of lyle workman years ago at NH tour..Mystified/BD&B- Tony Levin grabs a hold of the blues...Todd does a blurring style solo at first that is a bit hard to believe is Todd but it is..Sounds like JG almost...very odd first solo but great...into BD and B is super...TL's 2x bassline moves it along...Todd gets way into it at the end, really extending it, JG of course is a marvel with his solo as well...nice version...SLUT- confident, chippy..Walls- one of the most impassioned vocals this night...playing for their meal here...so great it ended up as the set closer (probably not intentional)...Hawking- was good, not great this night...the guitar did some funny sounds halfway thru the verse 1 for JG, TR was great but very uneven back vocals..Todd takes the lead rhythmically at the end-whether intentional or not, not a good idea...better to leave it to JM, some weirdo timing stuff...OW- very unusual closer, but nailed and no doubt a satisfied crowd heads back out onto times square....great energy, great recording..No banter, all music--another great effort by Roy Goldberg....~ Tony

Track List:CD ONE: BUFFALO GRASS. I HATE MY FRICKIN ISP. BLACK MARIA. SOUL BROTHER. MAMMON. FASCIST CHRIST. I SAW THE LIGHT. BLACK AND WHITE. LUNATIC FRINGE. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. DRIVE. TINY DEMONS. CD TWO: MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. SLUT. THE WALLS CAME DOWN. ONE WORLD. HAWKING. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY
Note:As with all the other great ones, he’s done for us in the recent past, this one is spot on, in your face 24-7 the top quality we’ve come to expect from Richard Roys...for me personally I liked Falls Church performance better all around- Todd's guitar was low vol at many points in the rams head show...so far, I think this one sounds better because of this recording, this is a good show, some low points for me during the sets but the encores really whipped it up on this one...considering the voice lost at the end of falls church, it would be very close but this recording is the best of the 2 venues to the show details: BG -from the start this is a brutal attack..vocs are a bit worn compared to NYC out of the box...lead guitar not very audible..."we have some rocking to do...” ISP gritty dirty rock-stones style- frickin brill.....BM is LOUD...but Todd is still not loud enough guitar-wise...during the time reference we hear some humor; 'the poodle bites'...SB- great jazzy solo by JG, and gets a bit whammy on the breakdown even..Nice...Mammon- stick sounds great...a bit flat vocs on holy father part...FC is a bit fast this night and does not have the funky element- Todd gets behind during the verse..We hear about Todd's 'emotional rescue' for the first time...TL starts Temporary Sanity but gets called back....B+W very fast and it needs space bad..great solo despite this by Todd at end but Todd is clearly irritated, his solo is a lot like the LP version actually...but at the end we have one of those buzz-kill moments when Todd accuses JG of playing a trick on him by being too loud, so to rectify, TR then orders the roadie to point JGs amp at JGs head..Jesse politely tells Todd you could have told me to turn down but TR is intent on being a bit overboard here and although we all know that he was irritated at the B&W performance, I’m not sure he knew it...it was way out of hand and was an uncomfortable moment for everyone there..So in the end the truth is that, yes, Todd was a bit of an ass to Jesse but it passed and we went on...LF was a bit rough and I think the funk was still lingering...by No 1, things had settled and Todd nailed the solo and the end was really out there, making it up as he went along at the end..Still his vol was lacking some in the house mix (I don’t get it)...another great vocal on drive, great lead into the changes by TL...crowd had a somewhat subdued response...."I'll bet you'll be glad we played this next one..." he was right Tiny Demons...this is the peak of this show for me, the recording is just genius, super sound -esp the low end..So nice...penis joke into CD 2 Mystified...great vocal, recording, Todd solo low volume still but brazen, choppy...into BD and B is just perfect...one of best ones ever by any band this night...again TL drives the machine on Busted...we get a reference to Alex Baldwin’s email, Imus and Iraq as well as a call out for all transgendered before SLUT...JM pounds a 2x-time solo beat to drive it home..Cool slide like sounds from JG...crowd wacked..."all over but the screaming...this is screaming"...Walls...spellbinding Hawking, almost perfect...this song seems sadder and sadder to me as time passes, don’t know why...;great vocals, great Todd vocals/extended ending..WWE- stick again, no low end but celebratory.Todd gives his all...no stop at end by JM...killer recording by RR, the master

CD TWO: DRIVE. TINY DEMONS. MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. SLUT. THE WALLS CAME DOWN. ONE WORLD. HAWKING. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.
Note:This was the second one I witnessed on the 07 tour. I was one of 2 tapers (the lesser one). the bass drum was real huge and did plague my recording but it is nice if the bass end is rolled off...., crackles sometimes and noise from the pa but the other one is real nice save some yap at places...together they showcase a really nice show-better for me than rams head musically (instrumentally, vocally, Todd’s voice was petered out towards the end of the set and was compromised by the encores.... on to the notes: b grass, you can hear Todd better...ironically, JG is low volume....vocs a bit rough on ISP..Rocking version of ISP...band gets crazy loud on the accents...again the back vocals peter-out during ‘Holy Father’...Fascist Christ this night contains a wicked improv solo by Todd...great vocals by Todd on the breakdown part...wicked stick by Tony on the outro section...killer, maybe the best of the tour...better pace than Annapolis...." you’ve eaten your veggies, now you deserve a treat" ISTL perfecto 2x lead..."forgot to take my diladid before the show"...B&W -nice leads again....can hear him so much louder than Anna show...still a bit rushed...Todd tells story of the Heimlich Maneuver performed by Jesse on Todd post show (the other night??), LF- super floating fluttering solo by JG..And stays hot on harmonics all out...showcase for JG this night..."going to get our sexy on"...no1 is tremendous...wish it was just a hair slower but who's bitching, smoking...Todd goes ape shit on the out chorus..just maniacal...awesome stuff from the middle on out....drive starts of CD 2 a bit rushed and Jesse is low volume, a guitar switch takes place..back voc a bit bare but Todd is still in full voice...talks of young folks and arctic monkeys, etc.....into nice to t demons-shimmering...some delay but then Jesse starts jokingly playing tired of waiting by the kinks before M/BD and B..JM sounds like Willie on this, here is where Todd's voice starts to go...nice early somewhat dissonant Todd lead..."you’d think we were restoring the Mona Lisa or something"...great triplet feel groove JM/TL on BD&B part.... Jesse plays the Marriage of Heaven and Hell lick and the solo then kind of goes the way of Ry Cooder meets Jimmy Page this night...Brilliant super-on paying-then he runs the gamut of his style...100% passion by all of em...missed cues at the end...”song took about 3 years to me"..The next 2 blaze by, then one world, I notice the high back vocs are too loud or maybe someone wasn’t singing or mic was off...back vocs are too sparse by Hawking esp with Todd’s voice rasp in effect after 3 in 3 nights...Todd does some amazing different vocs inflections to counter his lower range...nice...great show in general with a somewhat weakened end due to Todd’s vocs, but still in my mind due to the balance, etc…-I’d take this show was better but with the end of Annapolis plugged on-it would be the best of both..Thanks to the tapers here as well...yow...~ Tony

Track List:BUFFALO GRASS. BLACK MARIA. SOUL BROTHER. BLACK AND WHITE. DRIVE. I SAW THE LIGHT. TINY DEMONS. THE WALLS CAME DOWN. ONE WORLD.
Note:Truncated show opening for heart as the band hits its peak. Very nice recording, little yap, nice sound...this is where Todd did Liars in 04....still a big bass drum-kind of odd low end....Todd’s guitar low on Buffalo Grass...came early to catch us we have this for you..BM...Todd really destroys on solo --some killer parts of improv- crowd way into it....Zappa poodle quote...nice version of Soul Brother...nice vocals by Todd...Why B&W?? Nice solo but real weirdo one...2x on solo...trucks along like a big white truck down the beltway...."hope it falls into favor"...Drive....sparkles...best version I think.....Tiny Demons also is close to the best one.....loud walls..Jesse with ace slide solo...one world to end it...it was short but sweet and the band is confident supreme by this show...nice single CD -thanks to Moz.~ Tony

DRIVE CD TWO: TINY DEMONS. MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. SLUT. THE WALLS CAME DOWN. ONE WORLD. HAWKING. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.
Note:Being that I went to the 2 DC shows I would love to say I saw the best of the tour. I did not. This is the best show and for those with discerning ears know it is. It is simply tighter, more assured, has a better swagger than the other previous shows (5.2 is also smoking) this was a short tour, and just as the band was getting hot, they ended the tour. Why the Midwest was skipped I have idea. anyhow, this tour Mr. Hewey is the guest for the best...too bad it didn’t get started but as I understand it, he was shuttled from the balcony by the staff just as the show was about to start to downstairs..What he got smokes...it is not sonically as deep as some of the other shows but it sounds nice and is balanced and to tell the truth has better or should I say lesser low end for JM's bass drum -sound is good, hardly a yip (1 I’m sorry)...nevertheless this is when the band was happening..To the show: BM cuts in...Confidence is apparent from note 1...solo-Todd is decent volume on his solos...Todd is going for it with weapon in hand...Todd is fired up...”you’re sweet like peaches and cream"..."its all relative..."SB is effortlessly tight..Todd name checks bucket head then talks about the upcoming offendament and states "...or else what is the point?"...this is new...."but I intend to offend you in the most artistic way"...to me, that says a lot about Todd and how he thinks about stuff...love it...classic stuff...I realize that Mammon has to be one of my all time favorite sets of lyrics..They’re just exceptional. Amen. ..Again, as FC starts JMs got me thinking about the way Willie would play this...but Jerry is smoking hot this night...really grooving..Deep but a bit faster than the funkier PP version but still it is dead ON...extd solo...the best version....Tony just kills the codas with riffs...at the end TR gracefully thanks him and states ..."we were lucky to have him..." ISTL shows how great Todd's vocs are this night...Super...B&W...contains a very out there Todd solo...completely goes free of any rote...takes a lot of chances...lots of good crazy stuff --a few swonkers but many were meant I think..I've never heard Todd play like this, it’s cool as hell...Todd refers to LF as song I wish I’d written...finders keepers.....Jesses solo sounds almost like a continuation of Todd’s solos in B&W slope-wise...No.1 Lowest real air tight...fluidity is here..and now I realize that PP and TR used to almost effect a natural flange...here is just liquid....just a gem from start to end...Todd plays noisy at times, almost angry..Insane levels...best one-I know I’ve said that every time, but it is such a show highlight...Drive is too fast/pushed as against the groove of the LP...Todd says "thank you completes"...funny...heart of the show starts off CD 2, TD is...Mystified/BD+B: intro-" (shruggingly "it's the only way it will work" (the penis that is)...Jesse really plays these rhythm parts with a perfect touch....then it happens, word thief makes his appearance ..Todd solo again is improvised and slippery...again adventure abounds...Jesse goes a mangled route...sparkling..."blarney stone is hidden in a special place"...slut features a manic solo and sounds like the hello people with the 2x beat...nice slide solo by Jesse on walls..Pocket feels comfortable...better ever on OW...best Hawking so far...best ever played...nice subtle confident...perfecto...great sound on WWE...not rushed...diff end...”right here right now...WWE...everybody in the house, yeah...WWE....crazy momentum builder...yes this is the best performance-what a damned shame it wasn’t longer...smoker..Exit TL....what a great player and just at his peak...Thanks Warren~ Tony

Note:I was going to get dressed up but...." as I understand it, there were about 250 or so at this outdoor place...kind of like clubs we have all seen before in the backwoods..There’s talk of crocs from the sound check...anyhow, this is a treat because it is not TL its JM on bass...generally covered well but kind of basic...decent singer right away on Buffalo Grass...vocal spread out better in back vocs..You can tell without TL, Jerry M has stepped behind the Wheel...Todd playing riffs more out...kind of low vol at start..So far so good...Todd claims it to be "stoopid good", ISP that is...Moratta rules on Maria, Jesse, too....great version of BM, SB has a different feel this night...Soul Brother has the best solo so far, nice abstract..Todd mentions local oysters and the intent to "offend sensibilities, if you have any...you came to see us...stick on Mammon"...no Tony...FC is kind of odd this night...big missed notes at beg...nice groove, bass part is odd here...?? Then goes the other worldly solo of Todd...it’s a killer...may be best solo of the tour...Todd and Moratta really locked in by now...crowd likes ISTL...B&W outstanding inventive Todd solo..Intro to LF is about Iraq...Todd lets it fly...really happening, nice bass...brill Jesse solo...No.1 has lots of passion, super solos, out there, some great a few clunker but I love it..Todd really goes for it...some unreal solos on this one again...Drive Todd’s vocals a bit shredded...bassist vocs a bit flat...Mystified this night Todd straight up lead at front. Forget verse...not good blend bck vocs Jesse great as usual, but Todd goes real atonal and modular at the end...Hawking is a great vocal performance....WWE bass player sounds like Taggs vocs...~ Tony

Note:pretty much guerrilla style recording -lots of talk, so-so fidelity...nice to have at least one...come on, you western folk, let’s go....anyway- Moz is also sending in Eugene Oregon..But this at least gives a taste of what it was like on opening night..."Welcome to Symphony Hall...."great end solo on Buffalo Grass...killer groove on ISP by PP...Kind of a jazzy take on Maria-angry ripping leads from tr...PP playing out...very much Zappa like in later years on his solos...battles...like Colauita and Zappa...slow version of SB...Some fuck ups on Soul Brother cause it was so slow......Mammon referred to by Todd as torture.....Mammon needs some practice...strange drum parts on 1st night out....bit fast paces FC very loose, lots of notes..Dynamic from PP -loose Todd leads (good thing)...”pallete cleanser", ISTL...B&W has that PP thuddy power...nice feel as usual...Todd sings "trying to get out WITH the light" ~ Tony

Note:Great that someone got this one...we now have something to compare the urbano sets with.....here are the particles: BG- decent vocals, pretty rote solo...ISP- right off notice PP's hihat action is heavier than MUs..Heavier rock rock version--power trip...clips in 2 spots...BM straight up and down - accents nice...Todd follows the arc of the solo but veers off...deviation in downward solo that ripples the crowd..SB-bit busy groove-wise-great solo by JG-ending with "the riff"...remarks as to the liberal part of the country...MAMMON- the stoned version...very lasix-like-slower than usual--FC is a harder affair than that of MU-less funky more rock on top..MU saw this as between the pedal and the snare and PP is more out and on top...TR solo burst into some quarter tones even in places. Torrid soloing. ISTL actually into it this PM...B&W here’s a place where the feel of PP is now the feel of the tune. He has made his feel the accurate one on this tune for sure...this night it is rushed but solo is also pretty much rote-may be due to tempo..LF- JG solo very standard for him. NO! Is less floaty and more power stick...pretty nice interplay between Todd and PP.......crowd member (to Todd): "play what you want?" TR: "I’m not good enough"......TR a but hoarse by Drive...nice harmonics by JG....TD- not as delicate as JM or MU...more like the version on the Swing tour..Mystified-almost reggae feel at times between KS and PP-offbeat accents...SLUT a bit looser TR just grazing-not as involved at this point...BVs inconsistent (cuts) Walls fades in (don’t miss much)..very Cars-like-nice melody JG playing harmonics solo...Taking it easy on OW...someone talks to the taper...during Hawking- the mic is touched a bit much in places and mars the tune some in spots- by the end- it's nice - a nice version........some rumble on WWE..But PPs feel is king here...just a fun sounding show...nice to have this one...only one other than Santa Cruz so far.~ Tony

Note:Let’s get to it: "sweet looking house!" Buffalo Grass-no back vocals on ‘already gone’ part...real slow, precise, accents not all there with MU yet. ISP-you can feel them feeling each other out (mostly KS and MU) bouncy kind of like a ride over a bumpy road with a great shock system...neat like it..."Austin...it was like 100 degrees today; TR then says something about Austin being better than the rest of the state. Wish the guitar was louder in BM but solos are nice-TR getting use to the open space style of MU...JG nice solo as usual on SB but MU misses the pick up from the breakdown...MAMMON- pretty rehearsal-like...fast take off on FC to be brought back to a slower groove..it’s very interesting here to see how each player handles the situation, places on FC where JG kind of backs off some to let them establish things, KS is punctuating the places MU has to learn-professionals at work! Todd seems to pick up almost instantly how it feels and it’s clearly a faster process than with JM...B & W gels nicely naturally...best groove of the night on LF...some tech problems...LED thing bothering Todd...who claims "I’m so used to big places now, not used to such a small stage"..NO1 is where MU is up and down with volume...leads are nice sheeny things here- kind of raunch-out at the end (real cool)...somewhat messy in parts but a nice omen for the best thing THIS config played each night. Odd flub at start of Drive (wrong fret)-blanks drawn lyrically...after it settles, it’s nice...lyrics then off a touch on Mystified/BD and B but what the hell, were rolling! Lots of bends on solo, something screws up with Todd’s rig "it's always fucking something..."nice smeary slide on heaven and hell riff-sounds very Billy Gibbons style (in Texas, no less), last solo so-so, accents off at end of bluesman spiel...loose but ok slut. No real spark on Walls, decent momentum captured on One World. Yap city on Hawking-is this NYC? What the hell, people-the highpoint of the night and you can’t keep your mouth shut...scant back vocals (only JG)-ok version, nice end for WWE-can see the funky popping version to come...important well recorded starting point for this group...thanks Moz!~ Tony

Note:Crowd great, venue system loud as hell, so-so, 10th row center, great show- band gelling before our eyes, at place where overplay is scant (nice) Todd guitar and vocals real strong particulars: BG- subtle dynamics evident from MU right away...Todd nice and loud guitar-wise ISP, great vocal phrasing, leisurely pace with a punch, perfect...cut me off accents in tow (ala studio and tre)...more dynamics in store at end of Todd’s solo in center of BM....bluesy Todd solo...Jesse's solo on SB is jazzy and chorusy..Highlight of show the groove on FC and also Mammon is so much better with this unit...the early 16th accents are missing but still...Kasim and mu groove away..Great without a net solos on FC very hard and soulful....jazzy strident vocals from breakdown on out....Todd pisses Kasim off by requesting Kasim "go head'n kiss her already"...but he was dealing with the monitor and not a gal at all...ok it passed.... Black and White (fine compliment indeed). Jesse cuts a fluttering solo magically on LF...No.1 is the radical departure...the dynamics in this tune make it as acid as ever with the sound and feel...it is indeed a new tune with MU in tow..Todd’s solos are spellbinding with the stage set by the rhythm section especially the all timer at the end...whew...Drive and Slut put Kasim in the driver’s seat and what a great player he is...he makes these 2 work...Todd ends a bit flat due to monitor problems on a line early in td (very very rare)..Unusual solo for Todd on Mystified, more recognized at end of it.....vocals are outstanding on this one also...Jesse does this slide thing with an obtuse downward angle that keeps going down..Thing of beauty then into Todd, Jeff beck, 2x to harmonica sound (which Todd mimes)...as I said Kasim kills with staccato bass line in slut and drives the crowd wild...even the insane older guy stage left who though he was onstage himself...funny...walls-just in control....great hammer work/harmonics by Jesse on hawking and throughout the set he did change some voicing on mammon, etc due to the uncluttered space by the killer rhythm section...still MU has the little hiccup he originally played on Hawking, a nice floating forever version -MUs dynamics are fierce....quiet on v3 real nice...loose as hell WWE, no Trapped yet by this time..Kasim covers for Jesse guitar change by funking it up to MUs nasty groove...slight fuck up towards end but Todd is unfazed..."are you ready...got to bring it home"..A triumphant show...great crowd and decent...won’t be the best but damned good...recording...~ Tony

Note:Well my brother and our friend, JB came thru and I haven’t had the time to put these up but he nailed both NYC shows. I prefer the 2nd show simply because (as is the case with Todd more than any other major artist) his guitar is not loud enough...funny both shows I saw Poughkeepsie and Alex...his volume was up...but this first show in NYC esp., the volume is lower (his guitar) than we would all like...can hear the leads but you know what I mean....nice pair of shows and these come (esp. night 2 where guitar is up some volume) with some great performances..In general, it seems like MU and the band were a bit excited to be in NYC and as will happen sometimes, the tempos are rushed... there are some real chestnuts..Here are the particulars:"hi kids!"...solo hardly audible in BG...Nice solo-wish it was louder...ISP is WAY too fast...Jesse does nice runs at the end-changing his standard rhythm part to fit the faster tempo...Todd’s guitar gets a smack louder by BM..Nice end extended solo and Todd goes whacko...good raunchy solo...fans then request a "throbbing experience"...bass is huge (loud ) in SB and the ride cymbal is a bit much volume-wise as well..Pretty nice frantic version of Mammon...again we get excited and FC is way too fast and loses the great funky thing MU and KS get going most nights...guilt-free ISTL...Todd deliberately slows down the start of b and w to get control of the moe going down..You know that something I never really have said before...Todd has an innate sense of time and I have never heard HIM responsible for a tempo rush or drag..He generally knows exactly where it’s supposed to be...always...vocals distorto on B&W ...very inventive solo on this but again ...volume...No. 1 absolutely wicked solo...both of them just rip it up......Kasim dresses his part up a bit in Tiny Demons..Nice 1st blues rip on Myst...Jesse's solo very deeply blues--great ending as usual (Jesse's specialty it seems)...super groove=slut ala Poughkeepsie...prior to the encore, this rare serious gratitude to crowd/fans: "I dedicate this all the people of the world-you’re welcome into my heaven anytime". Then Hawking....wish backgrounds were better.....a bit too busy bass kind of fights the swing...nice show...2nd one is better, as always with JB great recording.~ Tony

Note:I’ve heard some say that both nights Todd’s guitar was low in NYC, but this tape proves it was a better balance in the house mix...bass better tone..can hear the guitars better and we are more relaxed...still id like Todd a tad louder but its worlds louder than last night...blow by blow: Buffalo Grass is more relaxed..Perfect pace for ISP which makes all the difference-I like it a mid tempo exile on main ST type groove which this is....nice little nuance makes BM a killer....nice leads, nice smooth lines...a bit low..On Mammon, Jesse’s processing goes out towards the end...recovers for a much improved from 12.11.FC...lead on this one pretty much off the cuff......subtle ISTL...B&W features a crowd 'singalonger'...we all love that..Even if we’re not taping...paying to see someone else sing to Todd...unreal how rude people are sometimes...powerful B&W nonetheless...Todd acknowledges building momentum before LOTCM...one super shredding by the end..Just special deal here...Todd’s voice fails in Drive...he fancy-ups the one note solo...Todd’s intro to Myst.."My days as a landscaper in Atlanta Georgia..." funny...approx correct...."why? Because it hurts"...1st solo ok...Jesse employs a constant attacking, gnawing solo style//Todd an Jesse out of synch some on the mouth harp...end part is mess due mostly to the mix and volume of everyone...Slut is superb...killer one world...."I feel like Barry Manilow.." spectacular Hawking...better than last night which was boss also..Todd solo on trapped a bit off kilter...muddy center part on WWE but Kasim groove was out and popping - yes a bit fast but what the hell..Great show...great recording....its NYC you know....

Note:Sounds like a DAT in a larger hall. In fact this hall is best known to me as having hosted the last 2 NRBQ anniversary bashes...this night there was passion and what a guitar showcase. I don’t think this is the best recording so far...that would rich and Sara’s Alex so far, but this is the best performance of all I’ve heard and I wasn’t there (damn). These solos are generally more out there than the others and Todd really takes a lot of these solos far out of the normal grooves he's worn. That’s why I like this show a lot... the recording here does not have the best depth due to size of hall and the ceiling and most of the sound starts almost on a faux stereo (all highs in r speaker) but the sound does balance out. Nice mix of instruments...specifics: Buffalo Grass...Todd guitar is loud as hell on solo (good)-vocals relatively high... ISP nice impassioned...great lead vocal...extra distortion bite on BM solos-totally off the cuff solo-starts the 1st solo in the rote and then directs it right up on and out of the normal scene..Rips it up on an extended lead...real great stuff here folks...screaming, holding notes out...superb...Kasim does great descending notes run in last verse- great end also-one of all time best versions here folks...much more strident SB-great vocal phrasing which is changed up- highest ever level..End also changed up some, nice....refers to "in 6 mos it’ll be the 2nd freshest we have"...Fidelity seems to improve on Mammon...kind of funny I thought about the one note bass part for some reason in the front..Great sound by Kasim...opening note muffed on FC but still funky monkey happening -KG gets a bit crazy on verses...again Todd puts the pedal to the metal off the normal road and ends up with another jaw dropping free solo..Free and wild like BM...Killer again....ISTL another more than normal passionate version...b and w is a bit out of sorts intensity match-wise with the others...some great solos continue...Todd really at a peak....Jesse gets a bit more gliding on his part on LF....torrid yet wet solos by the foamy on No. 1..trs leads on this are as close to Hendrix axe era I’ve ever heard Todd play...great again (ho-hum)..Kasim is the star on drive where his runs make the tune...Jesse also just great on the head section in the middle...story about puppies...lots of mic scuffing by recorder on Tiny Demons...great ghost whispers... end blown lost a verse.....Jesse less audible on Mystified/BD and B...Todd wild on his solo..Jesse’s on a speed trip this night...another all timer-solo wise...Todd fucks up turnaround on slut but groove is great stuff-Kasim propels it along..Kasim off the hook on walls as well...hawking pretty nice-wish there was more backing vocals....super end though.......solo wicked on trapped....Kasim funks it up....again, so far the highs of this one performance wise are the peaks to my ears and one would be wise to include this show if you get some from the tour..Thanks to Mr. Lino and Mr. Moz for these off of DIME...killer stuff~ Tony

Note:Sold out in DC. Nice crowd in a good mood and gone on...best of the tour (tape job) so far by Mr. RR and ms SK....compared to the show in Pitt I saw 10 days prior, there were a few more notes and Todd did mis-hit some stuff on the fretboard (he had the roadie putting sharpie marks on the newly fretted foamy on more than one occasion..Particles...nice steady groove on Buffalo Grass...very Indian-beat like...pretty rote lead... ISP-love the build up at beg-Jesse does a nice little strat whammy bend on the opening chords that just is nice to set the tune and momentum up...very fender...love Kasim’s riffs at the end...In fact, this was Kasim's show-he played so much more fluently with MU on this tour and thus, with less busy drums he can play more...just a very underrated player on the bass...Todd then talks of the 7:30 shows and him breaking his meal before the show rule this eve...BM much faster pace than Pitts..Great high wailing solo by Todd that is pure abandon open blowing (no arc)...dynamics still pretty high on loud soft but not as extreme as in Pitts....we get a quip that the fact the marquee said Todd and the Liars was itself a lie.....SB still nice and spacious..Great vocals by Todd and a near perfect solo by JG-a clinic...long end...”now we're going to start mucking around with your religious beliefs...”...Mammon- Todd rhythm a bit loud..Some sharpie problems...MU does offbeat hihat clasp on this and Mystified...a bit much contrast for me...funky as usual with MU's FC...the breakdown sections are awesome...a bit different style solo on this one than usual..Pretty freed up stuff...nice...ISTL sung well bellowed style in fact..."we know that Wayne Newton and Donnie Osmond go out of their way to play here...so we had to play the hit"...black and white--powerful version-a few miss-hits by Todd but the solo is god-head..Wild and crazy solo section with pretty insistent riffs, etc (new album stuff?)...powerhouse version of B&W..."The crew here said play anything except bluegrass...they’ve had a parade of mandolins go thru here..." nice harmony line style solo by JG (if you know what that means)...Great loud soft on No.1...passionately yelps..."equalize me, foamy!"...great passion on this one...great little different solos on the outchorus...vocal silky on Drive...laid back..."Todd talks of the instant millionaire...”then into the neo con speech which is a bit off kilter delivery -wise but some asshole yells out and embarrasses himself in the process..Funny stuff...better TD than at Pitt...Wewww... get the speech about crop sharing...into Mystified...harder version of mystified than Pittsburgh...stumble into 1st solo...great section between the 2 tunes...great solo into the harp thing...re-entry is changed up a smidgin...slut is not as punchy as Pitt and suffers comparitably..But the Pitt version is as good as it gets, so...a bit more legato...walls nice pace-calmed down some...great on top solo by JG on one world...great version of hawking..Better than Pitt...very spacy...very quiet last verse...dynamics unmatched...god MU is a very dynamic drummer......great to hear Trapped..Solo nice but not like the record...funkier WWE to end it all...great show-if you’re going to get one from this short leg, this is it for now.~ Tony

Note:The small room and the aroma of Toads...all the way back from the old days...balance pretty unusual all night with loud drums/bass...specifics: Buffalo Grass -brisk, Todd tries to bring it back with slower phrasing on vocal...nice end solo but too fast as unfortunately, most were this night-I guess everyone was pumped to wrap a successful tour...ISP-again too fast..Vocal is great by Todd...Can’t hear much but bass, drums...nice tape for a bass/drummer to learn by actually....BM - Todd again blows like the wind, freely...amazing solo again..Kasim muffs a spot on bass, Todd’s guitar continues to be wild...guitar sounds a lot like the late ‘73 early ‘74 sound Todd used on the ‘eyeball’ Utopia album..Hot solos...same angular approach to this solo as then, lots of loud drums on Soul Brother, Mammon is way too fast...screaming lead guitar on FC-nice new bite on breakdown part..Gives it a new life...B&W 2nd verse on-this is superb-one of best versions...solo low volume but adventurous as hell...."and now the final destination is rhino records?" could that be the new version on the new album?? Great LF this night-you know it’s going to be on the new album....fluids spill all over in No. 1...dynamics of MU will be missed on this one...again drive is brisk..Great vocal (blowing it all out-last show) Kasim dresses up the bass part-changes the tune...” Problem with short tours is you revved up and then it’s over"...no intro for tiny demons this pm...Great version...on Mystified/BD and B balance improves, also faster than normal...1st solo Jeff Beck hat, Hendrix-like...Jesse solo very slidey not very loud-but wicked climax at end..Wild applause on Slut...stomping crowd to Walls...some bad guitar notes on Hawking but a very emotional performance...energy abounds on frantic Trapped and awesome WWE Kazs bass in your face....one of many good ones this time out.~ Tony
