Largest Collection On The Globe of Todd Rundgren Audio Rarities

Greetings Audio Toddheads! Warren H. (Atlanta, GA. USA) here. Tony Rogers and I have transferred our entire audio collections over to my home in 2008. We (Tony & I) thought my circumstances (A 62 year old, single, IT specialist/Audio Editor guy in Atlanta with lots of Todd Rundgren history/archival collecting since 1972) would be ideal for taking over the 'Library' in all its glory. And, so an 'incorporation' of his and my colossal collections takes place! I now curate this ‘museum’. And I plan to share much of this, just as Tony did all these decades. And yes, I’m somewhat of a Todd Rundgren Historian. I have been 'following' Todd extensively (in all forms of media) ever since I saw (and met) him here at an Historic Show at Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theatre on November 8 1973. So I know 'enough'. Please note that I say share my enthusiasm. No buying or selling. Nor will a penny exchange hands. Never.
I want to say a big THANK YOU in advance to all of you who are going to help and have helped with this so far. I’ll do my best. Write me anytime. twarrenh@gmail.com
Just scroll down to the items listed below by period and click on any year to browse the collection.
We've also recently been working in collaboration with my friend Frank Bubnick and his well known vast quality collection (you can visit his list by clicking on his name). Some of his editing is unequaled anywhere.
And some late breaking neat news : I believe most of you are familiar with the JEMS group. A bunch of super collectors for many bands’ audience recordings (predominate though are Yes and Springsteen). Well known for their re-mastering prowess and quality. They’ve been in contact with me for a couple of years, and in December of last year offered me all their (originals) Todd Rundgren Collection. They just didn’t have the resources or the time for refining anything by Todd Rundgren. It just wasn’t on their timeline. I received all their cassettes (60) within a few weeks! Most of them are MASTER tapes from the original Taper. They will be sending me all their DATs and Reels at a later date. I will be listing all these recordings here, as I digitally transfer them. With this addition of the JEMS collection I believe these Todd Rundgren Archives are easily the largest collection on the planet.
How do we share you ask? Well, Just for what it's worth, we really don't do the 'snail mail trading' (by postal) much these days. So, if you would like me to share or trade any of this 'Catalog' with you, it would be more convenient/easiest to share in the form of on-line file transfer. Generally, in .flac format, compressed to .zip or .rar for smoother/faster quality exchange [depending upon the size of the audio file(s) we might be exchanging of course]. Hope that all makes sense. I can work with you on 'all that'. Again, write me, and then we'll come to an agreement of sorts. Please keep in mind, that anything that is 'Official', or 'Professionally Marketed', or still available for 'Retail' purchase is not of consideration. Nor is there any monetary means of transaction.
I do not have any rights to, and I am not open for sharing any material that may be listed below that has been commercially or officially released and is still available retail. (It may be listed below for collection listing purpose only). I do not take or give any money for a single item below either. I do not take away any proceeds that are due to Todd Rundgren, family, friends, business or supporting/associated musicians. If it is ROIO (recording of independent origin), then I'm open to share. Support the artist! Go buy his stuff where and whenever available! Speaking of which; an ultimate place to find/buy Todd's releases and imports & rarities is TRBAZAAR. Check it out! If Scott ain't got it, nobody does...just about! And of course many past official CD/DVD releases and proprietary Todd merchandise is readily available for ordering on-line at The Toddstore. So check them out for sure.
I like to give credit where credit is due too. So please forgive me if I do not credit the right persons involved in making these recordings available/possible for all these years.
I’ll start a ‘Credits’ list here below, and maintain it on down the road. Like to make sure all the folks involved are appreciated. For now, let me go ahead and thank some folks that have really been instrumental in these archives (no particular order): Tony Rogers (of course), Mike Armes, Jeff Gauss 'Weavil' (RIP), Frank Bubnick, Paul Russo, Hiroshi Kawauchi, Istvan Berzenczei, Sara Kritzer, Barry Beiseigel, Marc Linowitz, Rob 'Lockjaw' Levangie, Roger Steel, Mike Adrian, Gil Ireland-Ashley, Jim Farrell, Dale Michelsohn, Gary Urwin, Don B., Bob Stanislowski (RIP), Micheal B., Jon Risen, Jon Babcock, Mark Wilpolt, Tom Cannon, Lin Sprague, Joe Franks, Chris 'Razz', Geoff (& Rick) Laurenzo, Ted Moon, Richard Roys, Storm Hunter, Moz (Mike), Sohta Fujito, David Skye, Allen Law, Matt Walsh, Kevin Lewis, Doug Ford, Dave Knife, JEMS, Jared Houser, Gene Poole, 'Elegymart', Gail Artsgard, Victor Baissait, Connor Payne and players to be named later. Special thanks to Roger Linder for providing this page space for us for decades. Let's Rock!
BTW, I call this group of people 'My Cartel'. However, I have given the group a Media name: F451 Media (as in 451 Farenheit). It is not a brand name, for nothing of mine is for sale or has been sold EVER. It is a logo for these dedicated Todd Rundgren Collectors , which most of been doing this since the early 90s (and even earler). Our logo is:

IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. SONG OF THE VIKING (ABORTED). FREE MALE AND 21. HELLO ITS ME. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. BELOVED INFIDEL. LUNATIC FRINGE. ONE WORLD. (REAL MEN). PRETENDING TO CARE. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. BLACK MARIA.
Note:First of all this show is myth bursting...why? Well, the hell that erupted when Todd elected to explain the glitches this night started an avalanche of complaints about set list, professionalism, etc...it sounds just like an opening night sounds for every artists. No, this show is not an unmitigated disaster? Yes he is shaken from the mistakes at spots, but the crowd does not boo at all......in fact, you never believe it until you hear it but some of this show is nice as can be..Tie You Down is perfection...LCM -Todd has some voc range stretching to do for the tour but is well played....Cliché presents a very dynamic form-the middle almost hushed for extra effect...I Saw The Light has Todd pulling out one he handn’t played solo since ‘99..so there’s a few stumbles in trying to pick out the jazz chords...great to hear it again....Todd then delivers a pinch of self deprecation "incredible musicianship so far....put it out of your mind-when I go to this complicated machine (piano) all bets are off”...IWHMAD small line mess up..The climax after the bridge in fact gets a roar of approval from the crowd....then the Viking incident...he starts 2x , then skips it...(more than once on this tour with this tune)..Free Male and 21 finds OH shaken a but from the Viking things, but he gets through it...glazes over lines, you can tell his concentration is all on his fingers at that point...goes into the Billy Joel razz again on HIM…doesn’t stop on HIM and gets thru fine...Uke is next and the crowd in FL. loves it, BI and LF are nice reminders of Fla's part in the political insanity we've seen, then One World-ends w/ great applause....after JJ's real men statement.....then PTC a bit quick but dead on...on Weeps Todd's gtr goes out when plug is out for a second-big deal....JJ fucks up lyrics on Weeps, Black Maria I must say, I have no idea why on the last song of the night-the solo is played by JJ. ~ Tony

SONG OF THE VIKING. COMPASSION. HELLO ITS ME. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. BELOVED INFIDEL. LYSISTRATA II (FS-1 VERSE ONLY).THE WHEEL. REAL MEN (JJ). PRETENDING TO CARE. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. BLACK MARIA.
Note:This show has some weird shit going on but I really like it- I think the two versions are very similar but you listen and tell me what you think-both can be listened to with ease...it was a large hall so you can hear some high ceilings....the very loose and fun LCM gives way to the usual 2nd tune, tie....Lysistrata is really frantic..Then blows away on a power packed Black & White ("I will get obscure on your ass once in a while")...then the Leroy stuff starts...Todd echoes "ooh Leroy...your mama's coming..then threatens to send Leroy out to deal with the hecklers when it keeps going...a false start on Compassion but clobbers it outta the park-Todd talks about being in NC to see his Son play ball (Winston-Salem), the Grasshoppers, and their new stadium..Real nice extended jazz-like end on Compassion...before BI he reminds everyone that now we need to get the protests up again...”your brothers are still other there in harms way”....then after this- again a frantic paced run down the 1st verse of Lysistrata again..don’t know if he meant to go into one world or maybe to underscore what he said before BI...after one verse only and a false start, (did he know he had already done the tune??? we'll never know??)He goes into The Wheel...the encores...blah blah....PTC really nice again is all that matters...I like it allot-I went to 3 and this one is better than all but Philly (I know there’s much more to come)..But I like it thanks Mike and Pat...~ Tony

Track List:LYSISTRADA. I DONT WANT TO TIE YOU DOWN. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. CLICHE'. AFTERLIFE. SONG OF THE VIKING. IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. HELLO ITS ME. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. (YOUVE GOT TO) HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY. BELOVED INFIDEL. THE WHEEL
Note:Lovely recording from a venue that sounds to be unique. Very good acoustics with some slap back...some hecklers really out in force...Todd comments on the venue often..Some probs with gtr on LOTCM but very strong Cliche'. Early version of Afterlife...still working out the flow or vibe of it...Viking is very nice...And a strange slip of the tongue in IWHMAD-I rewound it 3 times and this is indeed what he sang:"made me FORGET ever wanting you"...rather than regret...maybe you psych majors can tell me what that means.....HIM is rough...here comes the Leroy stuff again....Uke finds the Uke mic not on and hardly audible...very sweet end to the show-last 2 songs of solo set sparkle. The encores are all nice. His voice is good this show but not great. Getting over a cold? Great addition from the Mr. R. and sound is great-similar to Philly-nice acoustics in hall.~ Tony

Track List:LYSISTRADA. I DONT WANT TO TIE YOU DOWN. BLACK AND WHITE. TINY DEMONS. SONG OF THE VIKING. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. FREE MALE AND 21. HELLO ITS ME. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. YOUVE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. AFTERLIFE. ONE WORLD. REAL MEN. PRETENDING TO CARE. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. BLACK MARIA
Note:Incredible sound! As great as having a soundboard! This PDA recording is as good as or better than the house system-wow-Todd and stuff are in your face with one. Sound is totally unobstructed by yap, etc...Todd makes a Pope comment...in Baltimore...then talks about news stations cutting from the Robert Blake trial to the Papal Invocation...in Balt...yikes...very very rare Dream Goes On performed well...top notch Free Male and 21 and (Pat O'Brien's comment about the venue) another shakey HIM..Hide is good...LOTCM his voice goes out on the higher end...afterlife is superb-best yet, met with total indifference by crowd... (Reminded me of feel it in London last year where you expect thunderous applause and get bewildered response instead)...fine fine version of One World...PTC a bit lacking, Weeps and Black Maria especially are nice at this show...as good as it gets recording wise from Balt from rich..And the performance is pretty decent.~ Tony

Track List:CD ONE: ETHEL CD TWO:JJ CD THREE: LYSISTRADA. I DONT WANT TO TIE YOU DOWN. BLACK AND WHITE. AFTERLIFE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. HELLO ITS ME. SONG OF THE VIKING. HAWKING. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. CLICHE'. YOUVE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY. ONE WORLD. THE OTHER ME (JJ). PRETENDING TO CARE. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. BLACK MARIA
Note:So far the best performance-based on what I've heard-in another league with the other shows...the sound is the cavernous classical hall is perfectly captured with the PDA and creates an environment you can swim in. some may find this different to Sara Cerritos or Richards Delacorte, it is due to the hall but what amazing sound properties are on this CD. You hear Todd talk about how good the Uke sounded...it does...as for the performance, there are some moments of majesty...Hawking is what will be remembered first from here..The first minute shows to be clunky in spots, and then he takes it to the next level until about 2.45, etc...(..Lean in a little closer...) and then we're off on a trip that takes us into one of those transcendent places- and you can just float along at that point until the end...it’s an all timer...no question about it...Cliché is damned near perfection...No blunders, high level of confidence...this is the anti-Melbourne (which didn’t exist anyway-have you heard it?)-peak peak peak...great recording in big acoustically perfect hall of a triumphant homecoming/recognition type of thing...sweet as pie...another great PDA job by Rich and Sara in tandem? The proximity from the stage allows the PDA to pick up stuff like Todd stomping frantically on One World and his little stage mumbles, etc...real nice one top to bottom...and oh yes, after Hawking, there’s about a minute of banter that starts with a fan flippin over Hawking and then Todd allows himself a rare moment of reflection to enjoy the moment..Priceless~ Tony

HELLO ITS ME. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. BELOVED INFIDEL. AFTERLIFE. LYSISTRATA. REAL MEN (JJ). PRETENDING TO CARE. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. BLACK MARIA.
Note:This performance is better than what I had thought but does not measure up to Philly...Todd breaks a string very early...yes there’s the fs on Viking, but take that out and the shows pretty good-yes it is the S/A show..Very unique and solid (kind of train track pace) on IWHMAD...HIM is pretty solid in fact....we get a spontaneous adlib...(I go out the shed and I bang on that thing like it was John Bolton's head)...hey its DC....for once, PTC is a bit underwhelming..Todd has several croaks of voice on points...he talks about the Nats, etc...As for the recording, I’ve never heard a better Warner Theater recording in all the years it’s been here...Simply wondrous recording, decent but not super performance...but you can’t beat the recording..I should say that ISTL was nice to hear-it is a nice version here just got in the Barry DAT verison-sweet...~ Tony

CITIZEN SANE. IS SHE REALLY GOING OUT WITH HIM? CD TWO: LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. TINY DEMONS. BLACK AND WHITE. AFTERLIFE. SONG OF THE VIKING. HELLO ITS ME. HAWKING. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY. BELOVED INFIDEL. LYSISTRADA. THE OTHER ME. PRETENDING TO CARE. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. BLACK MARIA
Note: Jon’s version is so frickin nice, its superb...great more detail and quality is present in the mix...yes Black & White is a bit roughshod but again hawking is a big time keeper like Philly...nice applause for Uke which is somewhat surprising for NYC. Afterlife is also real nice of course...the show is very well recorded and is a good but not great show of the standard set of 05..great job from Jon B! What Todd called his most "loopy" show is not that bad. Yes HIM is rough as usual but Hawking is every bit as good as Philly from start to end-Todd talks about his 75th Street Apartment. Talks about arranging tunes, investments, lots of fun-not great not bad- the recording is pretty good though I have suspicion there may be on out there better...oh yes and Mike a sent me the DVD~ Tony

BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. BLACK AND WHITE. AFTERLIFE. THE WHEEL. THE OTHER ME (JJ). PRETENDING TO CARE. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. BLACK MARIA
Note:The big one-filmed for either a DVD or concert program for VH1-show does contain a nervous Todd at piano...the show was a great performance by jj and ethyl and a decent one by Todd but no Philly....LOTCM starts out fine, goes well until piano..Superb Tiny Demons in fact....then "creativity dissolved against the shoals of sloppiness”.....fs on Viking...then no recovery with an admission of nervousness when recording my piano playing.....then Compassion is decent ..Free Male is great...Hello It’s Me, fine with crowd into it...B & W is helped out by arriving late in the set...Afterlife is perfect next to last and then the Wheel which is very nice...another masterful recording of a pretty nice show that was affected obviously by the pressures of recording/videotaping..Couple bad points but all of it recorded on PDA here and sound just beautiful...~ Tony

Note:Holy moly Jon B's back in town! Great stuff here from my man’s journeys around to deliver great recordings of Todd stuff...this is no exception--similar in sound to Philly and the larger serious venues on this tour-Todd’s set is fine once he gets going-LOTCM is a bit shaky at the onset, then it is fine dandy..Peak part of this is Tiny Demons and ISTL, both great pace and phrasing...total command...super compassion despite not having his highest end of vocal range..He makes do well...pretty confident Viking... (Jokes afterward he getting paid by the note)...another nice Hello It’s Me...Talks about Poughkeepsie weather (cold)...in the middle of Uke -'in the jungle, the mighty jungle, the HIPPIE sleeps tonight'...some old Woodstock razzing...anyhow-very nice but gets even better as john b delivers some new shows for us all to drool over here less than a year later...~ Tony

Note:Well, it took me a awhile to list this but let me tell you it is the bomb...great sound and right up there with the best ones of the tour..The sound is just boss and the show is a whole one...this and the Columbus show make a nice pair from Mr. B...at the start we hear 'pork city...lets pig out!'...crowd really eats B&W up-go nuts...Todd then talks about Bogart’s...talks about puking onstage there and then says something about it going up on eBay...spellbinding version of infidel....big time....rest of set goes out grandly..The rare CWSBF takes us away...still Lysistrata is an odd closer but the guitar could sound better-the spider lets you hear the strings rattle that’s for sure...Todd's vocs were a bit worn but still the performance and especially this recording is what the tour should sound like..It’s very nice...big thanks from us all to Mr. B for this last batch! WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. (JB ONLY). BLACK MARIA (NO WEEPS ON 1ST VERSION-INCOMPL)
Note:Incomplete 2 CD of avg quality but decent performance...contains the ultra rare piano CWSBF and a strange version of the Wheel -that just seems hell bent on derailing...I like it...Viking is also a dandy tonight with an adlib bluesy thing before the fast verse that will blow your mind....big hall, a bit dist UPDATE (3/06): I’m a bit late at adding these great new Babcock shows-this and Cincy are just superb sounding....as you see this is an important show as it contains some stuff not otherwise played..And what a show it is-sounds super!! Some additional highlights: Todd talks about the Newport theater...ultra-rare version of CWSBF on piano...no classical intro to HIM, which is kind of nice...in introducing Uke we get an all timer “come away with...uh...come...uh...come to me, and with me, but not on me".....but this is no doubt one of the ones that worked, this and Cincy..Nothing average here...this smokes the old one badly...a few more bum notes on Demons and ISTL, but what the hell...it works...I’m now far enough away from the show that I can say that the sound of the spider guitar sucks in the halls he played it in..It sounds NOT full bodied...too much string sound and not enough mid-to-low...but I digress, this show sounds great and an even better one was in Cincy....Jon B is the man!~ Tony

Note:Sound is pretty raw here...some yap but there’s a lot of interesting stuff going on here...first off, early -Todd gets pissed early...claims its all gibberish to him...says he feels like "John Bolton at the UN...You mean there's other languages other than English...."...then describing ISTL...he says it’s like a starburst...a bit sour but you like it....then he threatens to offend everyone in the house..."I could empty this place in 5 min..Don’t tempt me...” really somewhat emotional rant-a bit on edge...goes into the donut in Viking and does the soul thing he did in Columbus...BI is choppy but slow and nice center section but vocs are worn some...the real shocker here is CWSBF, which we've learned from time to time (like a Dream Goes On Forever) will pop up at any time but lately is not planned at the keyboard. Sound here is not so good but contains some interesting jabber and a nice CWSBF...~ Tony

Note:Sound not bad but not superb either. there is a motor sound in left channel that if removed would make this way better, but still it is enjoyable with the motor sound even....major screw up in cliché and Todd then talks about NOT being a snowman...great ending on BI improvs..Mid section of Viking also freaky like Milwaukee...Lysistrata he stops, as if he thought he’d played it before, then goes back into it....thanks for H for getting it to us...~ Tony

I DONT WANT TO TO TIE YOU DOWN. I SAW THE LIGHT. CD TWO: CLICHE'. BLACK AND WHITE. BELOVED INFIDEL. SONG OF THE VIKING. HAWKING. HELLO ITS ME. BANG THE UKE DAILY. AFTERLIFE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. (JJ) THE OTHER ME. GOT THE TIME. (TR) PRETENDING TO CARE. BLACK MARIA. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS
Note:"...I don’t know what my fans want to hear......." Todd mutters along the way- summing up the quandary that is the US tour-wrapping it here. And what a show it was...save for cliché and lcm where there are some bad guitar moments, this is about as good of a show as we’ve heard on the US tour..The first noticeable thing is a boost in confidence...and a clear (and obvious to even the casual listener) direction towards improvisational delivery on every song...what a great benefit to 'em all...ISTL is astounding the way he scats in and out of the "jobim" as he calls it this night or bossa arrangement..Infidel is chilling and Todd delivers vocally all night up to and including the encores....I have heard Amsterdam, so I know it carried on...I’ve talked about it now for several years but there’s a great deal of even more variance unleashed compared to the east coast dates..You will be very pleasantly surprised...and yes, Hawking is glorious, no bad spots on this one-except revving up, the Viking - but even HIM is played straight through-there is a great deal of shift here away from 'come what may" to "make it happen"..He’s finally relaxed-Afterlife is slower...the key for him this time out was tempo-too hurried for the bulk of the US tour. Whoever taped this (I thank you), probably DAT...Low to no yap...very important for all East coasters to hear this one...A revelation for those who haven’t heard what happened after the East Coast. this show is replete with adlib vocals and a completely different attitude to the almost rushed, tense vibe of some east coast gigs, the music is all very liquid...the vocal intensity varies as does the tempos, the music breathes and it is wondrous-great version of Hawking...whatever was off kilter before is not at this show, relaxed, slower paced Afterlife again makes all the difference..Todd did not pound this out as he had to do earlier in the tour, he let the music come to him, mixed up his vocal phrasing and delivered a very nice closer to the US tour...you need this one...trust me-in light of what came before and after, this is bliss...thanks again to Mike, affectionately referred to as "the Moz".....important one here for sure. To clarify: Not only did Mike send me an unknown tapers recording (which is good) but he also recorded the show and I believe it's the best of the two~ Tony

Track List:CD ONE: JJ CD TWO: LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. I DON'T WANNA TIE YOU DOWN. BLACK AND WHITE. I SAW THE LIGHT. CLICHE'. COMPASSION. SONG OF THE VIKING. HELLO IT'S ME. BANG THE UKE DAILY. AFTERLIFE. LYSISTRATA. PRETENDING TO CARE (WITH ETHEL). REAL MEN.BLACK MARIA. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS.
Note:No nothing new yet but instead a great spot performance and nice recording by Gary on the first UK date. their performance is confident, he flies thru Viking as if it’s nothing-Compassion shines, a very nice both afterlife and Cliché… PTC shines this night- been from some time off on vocs..Actually Maria starts tired but ends up being inspired. Nice one to wash away the weirdness of the US tour and get on in a comfortable space...he sounds more relaxed than he has all tour long. These guys appreciate it....thanks Gary…fine show...~ Tony

Date Added:7/27/2005
Track List:LYSISTRATA (2X). BELOVED INFIDEL. I SAW THE LIGHT. CLICHE'. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. SONG OF THE VIKING. HAWKING. HELLO ITS ME. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. AFTERLIFE. BLACK AND WHITE. LORD CHACELLOR'S NIGHTMARE SONG. PRETENDING TO CARE. STOOD UP. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS.
Note:Decent, not great recording of London show which, performance wise is a mild disappointment to last year's crusher at RFH, on this recording Lysistrata is on here 2x at the front...someone needs to fix it. And also fix that it is a big one tracker....yes there is a train wreck on Hawking which he actually stops, starts to offer an excuse then stops and plows back into the tune..fabulous adlibs at the end....weird email announcement comes during B&W, this somehow had a computer component to the recording set up but the mics are not that boss..Stood Up is real nice.....much much looser Weeps...lots of mic noise and some weird tonal things...but most of it is easily listenable...if you were there, you want it..otherwise, there are better euro shows both perform and sound wise.~ Tony

Track List:LYSISTRATA. I DONT WANT TO TIE YOU DOWN. BLACK AND WHITE. I SAW THE LIGHT. TINY DEMONS. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. SONG OF THE VIKING. COMPASSION. HELLO ITS ME. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. YOUVE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY. AFTERLIFE. THE WHEEL. LORD CHANCELLOR'S NIGHTMARE SONG. PRETENDING TO CARE. SOUL BROTHER. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS.
Note:The show hits Scotland-lots of happy fans, yap wild, screams...applause appears edited in this show...problem on Demons, fine Viking, a cautious Compassion (good), no don’t change part in HIM, superb Wheel...Knockout...great slow PTC...more distant SB.....pretty nice performance recording is so-so with lots of crowd noise...thanks to Smeeg for all these nice treats from European continent.~ Tony

Track List:LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. BELOVED INFIDEL. BLACK AND WHITE. I SAW THE LIGHT. AFTERLIFE. SONG OF THE VIKING. HELLO ITS ME. HAWKING. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. YOUVE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY. THE WHEEL. LORD CHANCELLOR'S NIGHTMARE SONG. PRETENDING TO CARE. STOOD UP. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS.
Note:Splendid version of song with all new ones save soundboards...nice sound-some mic noise but still great...some stuff I noticed a new intro to Viking (come away with me now to the land of violent men and blonde women)..Missing pakaloma section on Uke...BI is very nice vibe...slow PTC...remember slow is always better...one of nicest UK ones- you need it...thanks-Smeeg from Mr. Hough: just a bit of info regarding the Liverpool show. The recording you got from Smeeg was from my original DVD recording of the show which I sent to him. The last two tracks are from a different recording source, as my DVD battery went flat after 'pretending to care’. The encores are only recordings from a stereo Dictaphone that records at 128 k/s mp3~ Tony

Date Added:8/7/2005
Track List:LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. CLICHE'. I SAW THE LIGHT. AFTERLIFE. SONG OF THE VIKING. IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. HELLO ITS ME. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. BLACK AND WHITE. LYSISTRATA. PRETENDING TO CARE. SOUL BROTHER. GOT THE TIME. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. STOOD UP.
Note:Full of 'come away with me nows'...remember its Amsterdam and I’m sure our man spent some time at least visiting the coffee houses...still voice is not too glazed...great phrasing on ISTL...on SB, Todd plays the organ riff..Very odd one to do...not all parts covered in Stood Up but most...not too bad of yap and moderate quality, better than avg but not near great on any versions so far. Performance was decent...if you need only one UK, this is ok but would be better w/ Liverpool or German show.~ Tony

AFTERLIFE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. PRETENDING TO CARE. REAL MEN. STOOD UP. GOT THE TIME. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS
Note:This second show is a gem-Todd seems so fond of Amsterdam, it’s clear he is in a good mood--he claims he almost forgot he had to play...István does another remarkable job-there are even volume fades on applause sections to help out the overall sound buts its real nice..Inclusions: a top level jazzy flitting about ISTL which comes across so coolheaded ("like a piece of candy found on the ground...what's that other flavor in there??-ha-ha)...standout Viking...new intro "name that tune" to HIM...superb ending...one of all timers in Hawking-best I’ve heard on the euro tour...just so much emotion...some donna summer thing...calm Demons as well.....in center of Uke, Todd inexplicably sings Katrina down the waves "walking on sunshine"..He also says at start of show "a ray of sunshine" must be something to it...afterlife is said to be about "being dead"??...all in all-the encores even better than 6.11, it’s another recording triumph for István....another one you got to have-both of these Amsterdam shows have a vibe that I didn’t catch until I heard these ones...great laid back phrasing, taking chances, the rote tendencies are cast away more than ever...his approach to the set list is almost jazz like in that you never know how he's going to feel it...I’ll bet it only gets more like this in the future, an American parallel can be heard in redwood city..........happy happy- I love it..thanks to István for this wonderful duo.~ Tony

Track List:CD ONE: ETHEL/JJ CD TWO: LYSISTRATA. CLICHE'. BLACK AND WHITE. AFTERLIFE. I SAW THE LIGHT. IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. SONG OF THE VIKING. HELLO ITS ME. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. YOUVE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY. BELOVED INFIDEL. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. PRETENDING TO CARE. REAL MEN. STOOD UP. GOT THE TIME. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS.
Note:Nice set list- decent sound but loud burst from Ethel and others at time makes this sonically inferior to Berlin but the set list and performance are better euro show-interesting the language barrier leaves Todd's little quips kind of frozen... Todd sounds ten years younger on Cliché-voice is generally in mint condition...talks about his wiener dogs...get feeling of complete control during B&W...Afterlife is nice slow pace...monster IWHMAD......JJ loses it during Got The time...yells at the light man to stop the blinking lights, it’s stupid..........adds harmony on lines never before on Weeps...~ Tony

Track List:CD ONE: E/JJ CD TWO: LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. CLICHE'. I SAW THE LIGHT. BELOVED INFIDEL. BLACK AND WHITE. COMPASSION. SONG OF THE VIKING. HELLO ITS ME. BANG ON THE UKE DAILY. YOUVE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY. LYSISTRATA. ONE WORLD. PRETENDING TO CARE. REAL MEN. SOUL BROTHER. GOT THE TIME. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS.
Note:Great recording...set list leaves a bit out here, no Chancellor's or Stood...show must not have been a sellout-JJ asks people to bring friends next time... LOTCM is a bit hoarse, forceful version...comments on good looking people in the audience...def a night where he plays with phrasing more than Hamburg...B&W is choppy as hell--sounds distracted by verse 2.. Compassion just pops in now and then..Comments that he’s been on the road very long time on Viking...does Ethel intros before PTC which is right after his set...better for Todd momentum...long James Brown, soul NH style ending on soundboards makes it interesting...(I don’t really like the tune, sorry) note that Black Maria is gone..I knew when it was first done that it wouldn’t last...it wasn’t an apropos tune to do with 'em, so it’s gone-In fact I gleaned same from Todd in DC..He wasn’t happy about it being in there thanks to Moz for his never ending endeavors...~ Tony

Note:Thanks to Mark D -this is the only known evidence of this tour. This was maybe because H and O taped the whole of it with Instant Live...anyhow, this is a decent but not superb sound it does have some talk on it but this is it. hope it never happens again...largely the same as 02 with 3 liars tunes in there...rocks well...we have all the encores....thanks to Mark for saving our asses on this one!!~ Tony

Note:Yes that’s right, every single song encore of the whole tour in glory sound... sometimes the mix is off, many times. About an hour each CD. Takes you through the whole of the encores: wait for me--Todd trades vocs with DH, Todd plays guitar solo CWSBF- has DH singing first...Still Be Friends....nice version with an improvisation on the la la la middle section...Rich Girl is the odd one out here every night...song is just not fit for the zig zaggy back and forth version between tr and dh..Easy to get lost...again a lead at end of tune by Todd but most times is mixed way too low to hear well..ISTL yes has the Todd and the h and o dude playing the 2 guitar solo on the original (the guitar player also does the LP guitar part which is nice to hear) kiss on my list some custom breaks and Todd also plays some guitar in harmony like the ISTL and does pretty well night after night on this one..Finally Todd gets to the point by altering the words the The Ojays classic...he says "tell all the folks in Iraq and Israel too"...I would add Pennsylvania avenue in Washington DC to the list.....lovely but repetitive...take it in small doses but it can’t be beat.~ Tony
