TODD/UTOPIA AND RELATED ARTISTS ON CD-R

THIS IS A REFERENCE PLACE FOR BOOTLEG STUFF I HAD PRIOR TO 2008 ARENA TOUR. I AM NO LONGER COLLECTING/TRADING THIS STUFF IN ANY WAY AND THESE PAGES ARE NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF SAME. THANK YOU TO ALL OF THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTED A LOT OF EFFORT TOWARDS THIS SCENE. IF YOU LOOK HARD ENOUGH, YOU WILL FIND SOMEWHERE WHERE THIS IS GOING ON STILL-THERE ARE STILL THEIVES AND CRIMINALS AMONG US! WATCH OUT...IM HALF-JOKING, OF COURSE
FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW, ALL TODD, UTOPIA AND NAZZ ARE BANNED FROM DIME A DOZEN. THERE IS A LETTER FROM ATTORNEYS REPRESENTING TODD THREATENING LEGAL ACTION FOR ANY SUCH CONTENT. YOU CAN SEE IT AT THE SITE. I AM UNSURE ABOUT ANY OTHER PIER TO PIER PLACE WHERE THIS IS HAPPENING. ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THERE...AT THE REQUEST OF THE ARTIST (AS THE LETTER STATES). AT THIS POINT, I NEED NO MORE INFORMATION OR CLUES TO SOLVE MY PUZZLE, SO TO SPEAK. ITS AMAZING HOW HARD HEADED YOU CAN GET ABOUT STUFF SOMETIMES. ITS MY TIME TO GET OUT.
IF YOU ARE AS BEWILDERED/PUZZLED BY THIS MOVE AS I AM, TAKE COMFORT TO KNOW THAT MOST MODERN ARTISTS (WELL ABOVE 80%) WOULD LOVE YOU TO CARE ENOUGH TO TAPE/BOOTLEG THEIR MUSIC. MOST NEW BANDS KNOW THE VALUE. ITS ONLY WHEN YOU SET THINGS UP BACK TO BACK AND GET THE DIFFERENCE FROM NIGHT TO NIGHT THAT YOU "GET IT"-THOSE WHO KNOW KNOW THAT THIS IS WHERE THE REAL LIFE IS. UNLESS YOURE SELLING A PRODUCT LIKE BUBBLEGUM, ETC. (OR A TOP 40 ARTIST WHERE ONE SHOW IS THE SAME TAPE EACH NIGHT) MOST OF MY FAVORITE ARTISTS ARE INTO COMMUNICATION, NOT SO MUCH DICTATION IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. THEY ARE COMFORTABLE WITH ALL ASPECTS OF THINGS. WHATVER HAPPENED (MONEY PROBABLY) TO LOSE THIS HERE, THERES ALWAYS OTHER SCENES INTO IT. IVE HEARD THEY ARE DOING WEBCASTS AND CHARGING FOR AWATS 09..FUCKING FINALLY THE LIGHT GOES OFF!!...I DONT KNOW BUT IT WAS PROBABLY DOUGS IDEA..THANK GOD FOR DOUG FORD-YOU SHOULD ALL KISS HIS FEET FOR ALL HE'S DONE..I MEAN THAT SINCERELY
BEFORE YOU EMAIL ME ABOUT IT, I AM SORRY BUT I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO COPY ANYTHING FOR ANY REASON AND I DO NOT WANT ANYTHING NOT ON THE LIST FOR THE SAME REASONS. I AM NOT CONTINUING THIS ON THE SLY OR ANYTHING..I AM SINCERELY DONE-ONE DAY MAYBE ILL GET MY SHIT TOGETHER AND AUCTION OFF MY COLLECTION FOR CHARITY OR SOMETHING...AND IF THERES ANYONE OUT THERE WHO WANTS TO WORK A BIT, I STILL HAVE HOURS OF TR VIDEO THAT HASNT SEEN THE MODERN LIGHT OF DAY IN VHS FORMAT-(DRYING UP AS WE SPEAK). IF SOMEONE REALLY WILL USE IT, ITS YOURS
THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS OF APPRECIATION. AGAIN, I THANK EVERYONE WHO WAS INVOLVED OR KNEW ME THROUGH THIS WHOLE SCENE. I HAD A LOT OF FUN.

Note:well we all wonder whats jesse's up to???..heres an update provided by fellow tr nut marc l at the venue thats hosted tr shows in the recent past- great sound- jesse just rocks hard and the format allows him to get his prog chops out- wha a smoking band--drummer marotta has also played with tr (initiation) and is (if not the top) one of the very most respected drummers of all time..hot stuff...MARC filled me on the tune titles-i forgot to mention this includes utopia theme for jesse as well as salisbury hill (gabriel tune)..the opening and closing (as i said before)are crimson tunes..this is another great marc l recording..thnaks again to marc for keeping us up to date- this is really a powerhouse prog rock band-located in the old area in upstate where tr came from (levin was a neighbor of his--oh-did i ever tell you about the story when annette peacock (singer-bruford band) bought todds couch at the estate sale...there are a number of legends hiding amoung the tall trees up there....thanks to marc again!

Note:boo-yeah...the dc crew- nothing from the south yet?? ...oh, well- as i said on the review section, i think this is an all timer for todds vocal performance- great show-stellar vocal performance in years-but also creatively as adds new life to the songs hes done. the list, pacing-all was in synch at the birchmere...new chi flowing here-new inprov lines taking the place of familiar vocal lines..compassion here is as good as its been. tie you down also glitters..anyhow -its cause of mr seiter that we got together an ideal location..his is in first..there will probably be a few different ones.this is sweet-no yap to speak of at all..all filler tunes chosen by richard are top notch recent solo shows.. the next night was also damn good........(2/15/03)-well now i have in two more versions of this night..they are all real strong..no bonus tracks from ml and sk..let me know if you have a preference-all 3 very close in position...3/03: just got in richards re-eqd version of this.. Note:well the first thing i should confess is that i sold this show short (say that fast 3 times...) on the website reviews-the end of it and most of it-todds vocals are on par with the night prior-there were more instrument probs but not to distract-a real small place (size and layout approx holiday inn lounge size: 250 folks)to start todd had an odd day as he explains about leaving clothes behind and forgettin picks..strings break so he picks up royston langson's gtr (who by the way is great and has a great queen like song we are not alone--also perfomed in the lap of the gods from sheer heart attack..) but back to the star..tie you down is superb from all perspectives...good execution on viking...compassion like the night prior is dangling on a star...the "dying on your bed of pain" when whispered as only he can bring the dynamics down is worth the price of admission for this SOLD OUT (VERY EARLY I MIGHT ADD) show as well.. theres a funny bit during the uke story where a lady belts out a laugh.......funny thing about these shows is the absence of elctric gtrs as well-distortion on acoustic gtr..black and white makes a rare solo appearance (at least not lately) debbie gives todd a plastic tasting glass of water when he asks for it...then the lovely vocal champ flattens the competition with the bossa set...the greatness of todd shows through in the improvisational sections he is inventing stretching but not going too far overboard to strain the voice-the high end is clearer..the wheel comes again tonite in a spot which is a bit earlier than usual..alters the tune "like if children were left to their own devices part.., to update accordingly....and the end, the slow down "how much i loved you....." the right touch for sure...cant wait for next leg--keep an eye peeled here-i hear there gonna even be a better one coming....2/15/03- i also have sara k's dat recording in- i also hear there are more coming...update 2/26/03-barry b checks in with another great job....

I SAW THE LIGHT. INFLUENZA. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS?. I WANT YOU. ONE WORLD. HELLO ITS ME. THE WHEEL. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.
Note:long time bud/tr fan mike mosner checks in with a nice recording of the charlotte show..voice was still nice--kinda weird show- sounded like tr spoke of it as kinda a punk club..anyhow- string breaks on song 1- tr pays someone a fosters to fix it from the audience...then the wind blowing on him at the piano bench was a hassle...plays iwhmad..todd says a number of times during the show that in his advanced age- what he thinks he hears from the audience is probably much more intertesting that what theyre talking about..todd says he may one day act on it and get in real trouble.....anyhow- show gets some steam but is frequently peppered with tr commentary about lotsa stuff..anyhow-verses get switched in demons, he mentions sold out tonite as an investment in the future- he may just play there 5 straight nights....hardcores get ready to do some motel biz....anyway, yes he does play iwhmad twice then they remind him of it...ive just seen is spot on....lia aborts after the eq/line in short in trs acoustic/electric goes out...like it did in annapolis...again todd darts in and out of the mp3 tunes great improvs at the end...HIM is messy a bit but he recovers and finishs strong after a few flubs...nice reaction from crowd- show was a bit more like the last few years but still the singing was clear and strong...great job-thanks mike.... NEW UPDATE 3/11/03: just received toms version of this and it smokes- excellent recording..

LYSISTRADA. I DONT WANT TO TIE YOU DOWN. HAMMER IN MY HEART. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS (PIANO). SONG OF THE VIKING. HELLO ITS ME (SNIPPET).?
Note:tom cannon comes thru with his usual sonic superior job...this show in which todd did have an extra thumb or two (one of those piano nites) but sang super in line with the great vocs we heard in dc area ..some catcalls burst thru the sound but not too bad..again, as was on the 7th-his string breaks on the opener and he aborts and goes straight to the piano where it starts out pretty well..speaks of the wtaer concern at each venue and did drink what he called "syphliss water" (mispoken name)..todd finally answers the catcalls for skynyrd with a few unaccompanied verses of free bird..btw hammer is the best ive heard on the tour- a real fierce pace...the flubs start at the end of too far gone which isnt bad at all but a real train wreck happens in hello its me which drifts for awhile at the end into an atonal affair-todd has fun with it...lcm and cliche really benefit from being played later in the set when his voice is warmed up....todd speaks of playing IWHMAD twice the night before, so i guess thats why it was missing this nite...a dream goes on is even somewhat marred-thats probably why he took the unusual step of playing one world AFTER a dream.. all in all, very enjoyable- rowdy crowd, kinda subpar keyboard nite..the charleston is all i got from it which was probably 70% of the show..this is great to have just to get an idea of the format-which will be seamless on the b-cast, im sure...toms part sounds great- the other is still very very good..i know its nothing really new but i love this tour-because of his singing-i still maintain that this is the best vocals tours in may a moon from the best singer in the biz...as for wv-you know how i feel about it-another great rising to the occasion for future (4/4/03)b-cast-tie is superb, it cuts about 70%-you miss HIM (and flubs), bang on uke. one world and the retakes of cliche and lcm (which will be on the b-cast)..

Note:this is the radio super clean-taken directly from a bcast source-sound is superb-performance strong...this is not every song played but again-a professional radio bcast for public radio-we havent had a bcast like this is quite a few tours-. groce's intro was spliced onto lcm (the version here is the 2nd take-first was unusable due to tech probs). however, the bcast sounds seamless.taxman is a sing along. todd sings a verse as the bcast fades...it is absolutely great to have one from this state-honoring a man who is long overdue..ESSENTIAL

Note:compared to the nite after-i think this was the better performed show but theyre both good.the pa was not on during lys. so far on this tour..its ls, tie to open and a dream ends..i think what makes this show better is the sustained emotional focus of this show vocally compared to dallas..iwhmad has diff vocal inflections that usual..many wrecks early in piano and also at the very end...compassion cwsbf are all good piano wise..demons has the cool out of order lyrics thing that happens sometimes (2nd verse first)the real reason for this is the sparkling emotional takes of infidel and whats going on...keeper

Note:here is one from big d recorded next to the stage...a bit distant at times but as the monitors grew in volume, this gets better as it goes on. performance would be under the night before due to piano stops and starts but a solid show and also very important in that it includes the debut US performances of kindness (on solo piano-he did do this one show in osaka-thanks jeff gauss) and born to synthesize (acoustic solo version ala twist-complete with marriage of heaven and hell gtr riff and snore)-also the newer beloved infidel and the wheel>whats combo that showed up the prior nite. the thing about this night was monitor probs as well as some mistakes on piano songs and lia. still nice to have for the expanding repetiore...sound as i said is not recorded from the back of the speakers but is still solid. may have another to add soon...

Note:tr tour rolls thre the midwest and mr l captures it faithfully- there is a bit of yap but the crowd seems never to stop..todd does the (becoming rarer) hawking instead of kindness-the piano flubs are less than average..lunatic is a bit rough (he says its performance number 2) but its cool to hear it back to back with beloved...thanks to ml for another foray into motown..nice to hear the local reaction to two marvin songs......good performance-voice is a bit rough at edges but nowhere near as what would be the usual damage by this deep into the tour..thats what makes this tour so special

Note:this set is really a show that i wished i had seen. it sounds coffeehouse size. tiny. the recording benefits from super equip and positioning not far from a speaker. its the talkhouse, however, and there us a bit of yap in many places early. it is not a problem because the recording is so strong and it gets better as the show goes on. some great moments here- hello its me has a playful improv'd begin off the bass riff...todds voice is a bit rough at the start but again, the amazing thing is that it gets better as the show goes. and by mid show , hes in tip top form..infidel is exceptional (many good ones-this one may be the best)..the second cd sounds superb.. wheel-whats going on also is great..also todd talks about a song yet to be written about the current political scene. one of the few shows that didnt end with a dream..anyhow- what a great job and like i said-i wish id been there for sure. lively, lot of fun and sounds great.

Note:what a special one off..as noted above, Jesse is there for all but 2 tunes on cd 2 here. changes this to be a hybrid show, half 03, half channel surfing..makes a difference when jesse addds to the wat stuff and the different a dream goes on is real cool..however, the most astonishing thing about this recording is the performance and the development of the improv on bts w/ jesse, wat stuff but the jaw dropper is the (possibly improvised) melding of a modal tune attached throughout ive just seen a face called the endless prairie-whether he was singing to his family about his recent jaunt northward above texas, who knows..but it is really together and sounds to me either to be improv'd -if not, its probably an old showtune.regardless, its an instant classic.....the sound is strong..theres some talk but what the hey..what a special show..another one i wished id seen..beloved is superior update: recently received (june) a new version of this from david weesner- who did a superb job as well..different color than the other-you cant go wrong either way here...superb..

Note:i think this was the next show after our little dallas adventure and todds voice starts out pretty gruff.(there was something about ragweed going around...).interesting that he mentions the new george's cal drunk show in 87 and promises to drink a bit- which he proceeds to do..he really delivers a funny line about his keyboard playing that id never heard before:"my piano playing is not sloppy...id call it...a rollicking style"..but despite the drink, this show is almost mistake free on piano...i finally got the joke before the hello its me..about classical concerto...thats him making fun of billy joel again..bj did that awhile back (tr hates him but i think hes written at least a couple undeniable classics)..funny loose show-voice improves by shows end-oh btw- this venue has evidently been there forever-i have some dead shows from early (1966) that were recorded there..

SONG OF THE VIKING. COMPASSION. FREE MALE AND 21. BANG IN THE UKE DAILY. BRAK'S HAWAIIAN VACATION. YOUVE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY. IVE JUST SEEN A FACE/THE ENDLESS PRARIE. BORN TO SYNTHESIZE. CD TWO: I SAW THE LIGHT. INFLUENZA. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS?. I WANT YOU. ONE WORLD. HELLO ITS ME. THE WHEEL>WHATS GOING ON. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.
Note:well this runs a very close second to rams 8/4 and probably these were the highlight gigs for todd of the second leg..after some heckling for "play something new", tr delivers this funny 16 bar diddy about tourists coming to hawaii-mr roys tells me that this is brak's vacation from spaceghost's surf and turf...but the rest is very strong..there is some very slight yap but no big deal..piano is strong..and a very funny line is delivered during born to synth...:the red polygons only desire is to get to the blue triangle..you know what im saying"...tr laughs aloud........it just shows he was loose and on his game here..another r roys masterful job....todd remarks about missing john entwhistle who played there with him in abbey road..this time its tr himself...very enjoyable show for a supportive LI/NY crowd...

Note:first of all to jim, im very sorry-it accidently ended up in the wrong pile and i forgot about it..wow.what a great surprise to find this really nice and loose show that finds todd in almost constant good humored banter with the boston crowd. this is a very well recorded solo show where todd was on-almost on par with birchmere, a few days later..voice not quite as good but nothing to complain about for sure. highlights: lcm voc were a force of will...slight rasp this night but real strong for sure..in a reflective mood about beantown all night (maybe it was that damned book again!)..talks about the metro close to the park and how the show went down depending on the sox game.talks of the bosstown sound..crowd into clapping this night...infidel is played so much more gently here than on the current liars tour..better here i hate to say..prior to compassion he asks the gov vs terrorist bit then says "lets talk about solutions" and glides into compassion-a beautiful halting version-he brakes around the curves for a more sensual style...real weird on this show where todd accepts volunteers to tune his guitar..something else todd says he has in common with bostoners is his love of country..."endless prarie of gridlock"...todd actually recites the concept of future during synth..wheres my...??..makin it with the mechanical maid..finally he goes too far and into the clap ending on wheel before he rememebers to seque into whats going on so the crowd has to slow down the tempo considerably..but the version reminds me why im here and why youre reading this now..todds doing the good work...very emotional plea..another gem

CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS/. I WANT YOU. ONE WORLD. HELLO ITS ME. THE WHEEL/WHATS GOING ON. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.
Note:close to the end of this second time around-mr L checks in with this jewel from towson.tr has mastered this setlist for sure and the piano songs are all done well and hardly any mistakes at this juncture..prarie is pretty cool...as i said before we could really use some newer tunes - i think theyre on the way...anyhow- a great job by marc, some yap but sound is stronger than i thought would be possible at this venue...also got in aprocessed gem from r roy on this one that really kicks ass..dc/balto-always covered with these pros...

Note:well theres the story-theres this little club in richmond and not many people came at all...todd says "i see you alll got the secret memo..you were the people meant to be here"...sound on this is great..the performance is still good but he doesnt wear himself out this nite..in fact, youd be hard to find another show since 77 where both lcm and cliche are missing..still this is recorded very well as rr keeps torching with his soundforge scene..all of these are really nice recordings and this was a very intimate affair..wish i coulda been there....

Note:well my bday..but my class reunuion or i could have been there..this is the best ive heard so far from this leg. nice relaxed-cool home vibe..really strong performance on all fronts...the soundforge must be a bitch cause these sound strong...no yap that i heard either...the cliche opener is super-sounds like he was in a trance and forgot about lys at first...very solid and i wish i was there-thanks- to the double r...(you guys have heard about the "double e" neil/the horse greendale-thats where me be) real nice show/recording here.

Track List:CD ONE: DAY TRIPPER. HARD DAYS NIGHT. COME AND GET IT. DAY AFTER DAY. NO MATTER WHAT. GO NOW. LIVE AND LET DIE. BAND ON THE RUN. RAIN. OPEN MY EYES. HELLO ITS ME.
CD TWO: WE AN WORK IT OUT. SAILING. RIDE LIKE THE WIND. EYE IN THE SKY. AND I LOVE HER. GAMES PEOPLE PLAY. BACK IN THE USSR. WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS. TICKET TO RIDE. I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND. BIRTHDAY. GOLDEN SLUMBERS>CARRY THAT WEIGHT>THE END.
Note:ok so now i dont agree with what i said about the next night.. it kinda is a shambles. i mean the musial parts to the beatles tunes are largely a free for all. and seeing denny laine sing live and let die, well you know...if i never hear games people play again, ill be happy..this recording is great, you can even hear em dicking around before the show starts..todds gtr is always way up in the mix but it should be, he is the main player, singer and talent here. this show is really todd an the also rans, so its nice for that reason but i dont want to hear, we can work it out into ride like the fricking wind...anyway-what a great find for the sound quality, dennys and joeys spots are nicely done, kind of a revue like circuit going for em...todd prob doesnt mind seeing em for these few shows but i think he is a rung or 2 above this level of talent..anyhow, his gtr and vocs are up and he carries the show along as he goes..rain is a highlight..torrid solo on OME but sound unbalanced..6/8 HIM. ..tr stands on his own mountain after weeps, nary a challenger here this night. tr jokes about more singalongs and thats what this degenerated to..gang lead vocals...tr gtr way up in solos on the end...nice to hear..thanks hiroshi, todds last jaunt witn abbey -we now have 2 nites..

BIRTHDAY. GOLDEN SLUMBERS>CARRY THAT WEIGHT> THE END.
Note:what a surprise..since there were only a couple of shows i knew about that tr was involved, i had almost given up hope when mr w comes thru- sound is excellent, very small cheers and yap at points but nice recording on balance..as for the show, i was curious for sure..i heard it was not as good as the others, maybe because its the 3rd time around.but after hearing it, im not so sure i agree with that assessment.granted, it is not as tight as the first 2 go arounds (but it is nowhere near as sloppy or ramshsckle as i would have imagined) here todd is the number one featured star in this show for sure and this sucker has a lot of spirit....joey molland really did a superb job on his tunes..denny laine sang with unexpected inprovisational flair-it worked most of the time..instrumentally it was a bit sloppy on those tunes but what the hey..nice to hear todd and joey molland trade off on golden slumbers verses..there are a few digital small skips on the closer but not enough to cause concern..very nice to hear OME again even if the solo is a bit off the pace towards the end...you can feel this lineup would be a killer if they had time to really get it in the groove but i think they played maybe 4 shows this year -maybe this thing has played out but its a shame especially for joey m (badfinger) and denny laine (wings-what no japanese tears???..just joking)...i really wish these guys would have been in a long running thing but who knows what the future holds??? this really was an enjoyable show to listen for front to end..personally i would prefer the solo stuff first , then go to the beatles stuff but thats a small bitch..(talking about bitch..todd recalls writing HIM on south street...)thanks to mr w for preserving this rare gem for eternity..btw, i dont know what the review was talking about which said there were problems between tr and mr cross??? no evidence of it here at all..sounds like they had a great time...weavil straightened me out about the badfinger title and molland w/ tr on slumbers....
