Todd Rundgren/UTOPIA (and Related) Audio on CD-R ______ v05.2013

Greetings Audio Toddheads! Warren Hewetson (Atlanta, GA. USA) here. As most of you probably have already gathered; Tony Rogers and I have transferred all his audio collection over to my home in April of 2012. I don't speak for Tony, but in/around 2008, he had some exceptional changes in his family, business/practice, musicianship & life's interests. It somewhat prohibited his 'curatorship' of this vast historical collection of obscurities, rarities & Toddities. Me having been a long time friend, and somewhat of a 'side kick' collector/enthusiast; We (Tony & I) thought my 'sitrep' (58, single, IT guy in Atlanta with lots of TR history/archival collecting since 1973) would be ideal for taking over the 'Library' in all its glory. I plan to share openly, just as Tony did all these decades. Am I an authority? Hell no. But been following Todd in all forms of media ever since I saw/met him here at the Atlanta Fox Nov. 8 1973. So I know a little bit. I want to say a big THANK YOU in advance to all of you who are going to help and have helped with this so far. I’ll do my best. Write me anytime. twarrenh@bellsouth.net
Having said all that, I'll be making changes to some of Tony's descriptions here as a form of update. I like to give credit where credit is due too. So please forgive me if I do not credit the right persons involved in making these recordings available/possible. Feel free to correct me on who's responsible for what, but do not ask me to change artist information, line-ups, set-lists, venues and or dates. In addition, most of the Tubes related media will not be included in the collection. And from around 2008 and beyond; the library here is not covered too extensively. My partner in crime~ Jeff Gauss (Weavil) has offered to help me out with much of that. Visit: Weavil's Toddlist. With Jeff's help, this is arguably one of the (if not THE) largest most extensive archival collections of Todd's rare audio on the planet.
I do not have any rights to, and I am not open for sharing any material that may be listed below that has been commercially or officially released and is still available retail. (It may be listed below for collection listing purpose only). I do not take or give any money for a single item below either. I do not take away any proceeds that are due to Todd Rundgren, family, friends, business or supporting/associated musicians. If it is ROIO (recording of independent origin),then I'm open to share. Support the artist! Go buy his stuff where and whenever available! Speaking of which; the ultimate place to find/buy Todd's releases and imports & rarities is TRBAZAAR. Check it out ! If Scott ain't got it it, nobody does...just about!
I give Tony a ton of applause for his relentless cause of collecting this stuff from around the globe. You can write him at the TRconnection Forum and thank him too. We've also recently been working in collaboration with my friend Frank Bubnick and his well known vast quality collection (you can visit his list by clicking on his name). WOW! Maybe I can do a "Credits" list here below, on down the road. Like to make sure all the folks involved are appreciated. For now, let me go ahead and thank some folks that have really been intrumental in these archives (no particular order): Tony Rogers (of course), Jeff Gauss (Weavil), Frank Bubnick, Paul Russo, Hiroshi Kawauchi, Istvan, Roger Steel, Mike Adrian, Gil Ireland-Ashley, Gary Urwin, Don B., Bob Stanislowski (RIP), Micheal B., Jon Risen, Jon Babcock, Mark Wilpolt, Tom Cannon, Joe Franks, Richard Roys, Storm Hunter, Sara K., Moz, and players to be named later. Special thanks to Roger Linder for providing this page space for decades. Let's Rock!

Date Title Source Time
5/18/96 'GOODBYE MARIN' SAN FRANCISCO THE FILLMORE PRESIDIO BENEFIT AUDIENCE 77:32/65:15
Date Added:2/25/2002
Track List:CD ONE: INTRO BY RANDY RUNDGREN. SECRET SOCIETY. BLACK AND WHITE. UNLOVED CHILDREN. CLICHE'. PLAY THIS GAME. HONEST WORK. TINY DEMONS. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. FEEL IT. HIGHER AND HIGHER. NO1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY. BANG THE DRUM ALL DAY CD TWO: ONE WORLD. ENDING SPEECH.
Note:This left coast ‘one off’ shows Todd with Prairie, Vince, Larry for a rough unrehearsed fun run thru of the above tunes-Vince being the dead dude (guitar-wise) by now made for some interesting textures in familiar places like during the Todd solos of No 1 Lowest Common Denominator, Secret Society, etc, some chaos, some wild endings…This was Todd's last solo show before the move and his very last was the bonus stuff here w/ vwb. Bang has Todd on electric guitar! Peaks of "feel it" burn, but this is the worst Love of the Common Man you’ll ever hear.-wrong fret thing was happening to Todd...this is not like a board-it has some yap and some varied sound quality but it is listenable always-could use someone to edit some yap out of it- it’s not yap to the point of being annoying but to the contrary, very enjoyable and one of a kind for sure.~ Tony
8/24/96 POUGHKEEPSIE THE CHANCE AUDIENCE~ JOEL KONIKOW 56:23/64:12
Date Added:7/6/2005
Track List:CD ONE: BLACK MARIA. FAMILY VALUES. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. THE INDIVIDUALIST. WOMANS WORLD. FASCIST CHRIST. CD TWO: LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. HAMMER IN MY HEART. TABLES WILL TURN. BLACK AND WHITE. TEMPORARY SANITY. BANG I THE DRUM ALL DAY. MYSTIFIED/BROKEDWON AND BUSTED.(CUTS) BELOVED INFIDEL. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY (CUTS IN-MOSTLY NOT HERE)
Note:I think I got this tape from Joel a bit back...it has some cuts and has some house mix issues where the leads are sometimes buried but it is as clear of a recording as was possible then...this is pps night- hes all over the place from the start- building up polyrthymic tension and release all over the solos..Much in a style almost approaching Vince Colauita of Zappa on his guitar solo albums...just in the zone...bang is a joke ad hoc thing.....this was more loose than the 95 dates and more notes were played-the material was familiar to all involved..Sounds great but house mix at the point of recording is sometimes severely unbalanced (can't hear some leads at all)~ Tony
8/25/96 NEW HAVEN TOAD'S PLACE AUDIENCE (CarlThulu?) 68:38/50:54
Track List:CD ONE: TABLES WILL TURN. HAMMER IN MY HEART. IF NOT NOW, WHEN? THE INDIVIDUALIST. SECRET SOCIETY. WOMAN'S WORLD. BLACK MARIA. CLICHE'. HONEST WORK. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. CD TWO: NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. FASCIST CHRIST. BLACK AND WHITE. MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.
Note:The best audience source there is in my opinion from this tour. More to come from this era.~ Tony
8/28/96 WASHINGTON DC THE BAYOU AUDIENCE 71:42/73:33
Track List:CD ONE: BLACK AND WHITE. SECRET SOCIETY. THE INDIVIDUALIST. HAMMER IN MY HEART. FASCIST CHRIST. BLACK MARIA. FAMILY VALUES. CLICHE'. BELOVED INFIDEL. CD TWO: TABLES WILL TURN. ONE WORLD. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.
Note:This show was transferred because the quality of it is superb but the vocal performance was suffering. Cliché is probably the worst all time version of this tune. Jessie plays an amazing solo on beloved infidel. Playing is hot and the show is not as bad as I remember on 2nd listen... Todd just simply blew out the pipes the night before in NYC and this is what was left...a unique show and unfortunately for all of US DC area fans...His last stop at the legendary Bayou (it is now gone....)~ Tony
8/31/96 ATLANTIC CITY THE SANDS (EARLY SHOW) AUDIENCE 44:33/39:31

Note:Fun Labor Day show with a looser attitude than '95...sound not the greatest of all, but passable... fun show- yes- I was there...had to hurry to get in show~ Tony
8/31/96 ATLANTIC CITY THE SANDS (LATE SHOW) AUDIENCE 44:49/44:56
Track List:CD ONE: NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. TEMPORARY SANITY. FAMILY VALUES, CAST THE FIRST STONE. BELOVED INFIDEL. CD TWO: LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. THE WHEEL. H&O JOKE/MYSTIFED/BROKE DONW AND BUSTED (INCOML). WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.
Note:Second and more fun show of the 2...I was at the show...fun little gathering of hardcores.~ Tony
12/4/96 NEW ORLEANS HOUSE OF BLUES 'ON LINE' SOURCE (EDITED WEB BROADCAST) 50:03/45:02
Track List:CD ONE: HAMMER IN MY HEART. YOUVE GOT TO HIDE YOUR LOVE AWAY. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. I DON'T WANT TO TIE YOU DOWN. FAMILY VALUES. TABLES WILL TURN. COMPASSION. SONG OF THE VIKING. IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. FREE, MALE AND 21. CD TWO: BLACK AND WHITE. I WANT YOU. CLICHE'. MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. THE INDIVIDUALIST. ESPRESSO. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.
Note:Sounds very good and was probably coverted files from the liveconcerts.com broadcast. A great representation (like a board) of this tour. as you know, this was the tour when Todd started to dread the piano (some nights good, some bad). This aint too bad. Very enjoyable as Todd is in a good mood and performs well. ESSENTIAL
12/28/96 LANCASTER CHAMELEON CLUB AUDIENCE 70:33/73:10
