Todd Rundgren/UTOPIA (and Related) Audio on CD-R ______ v06.2013

Greetings Audio Toddheads! Warren Hewetson (Atlanta, GA. USA) here. As most of you probably have already gathered; Tony Rogers and I have transferred all his audio collection over to my home in April of 2011. I don't speak for Tony, but in/around 2008, he had some exceptional changes in his family, business/practice, musicianship & life's interests. It somewhat prohibited his 'curatorship' of this vast historical collection of obscurities, rarities & Toddities. Me having been a long time friend, and somewhat of a 'side kick' collector/enthusiast; We (Tony & I) thought my 'sitrep' (58, single, IT guy in Atlanta with lots of TR history/archival collecting since 1973) would be ideal for taking over the 'Library' in all its glory. I plan to share openly, just as Tony did all these decades. Am I an authority? Hell no. But been following Todd in all forms of media ever since I saw/met him here at the Atlanta Fox Nov. 8 1973. So I know a little bit. I want to say a big THANK YOU in advance to all of you who are going to help and have helped with this so far. I’ll do my best. Write me anytime. twarrenh@bellsouth.net
Having said all that, I'll be making changes to some of Tony's descriptions here as a form of update. I like to give credit where credit is due too. So please forgive me if I do not credit the right persons involved in making these recordings available/possible. Feel free to correct me on who's responsible for what, but do not ask me to change artist information, line-ups, set-lists, venues and or dates. In addition, most of the Tubes related media will not be included in the collection. And from around 2008 and beyond; the library here is not covered too extensively. My partner in crime~ Jeff Gauss (Weavil) has offered to help me out with much of that. Visit: Weavil's Toddlist. With Jeff's help, this is arguably one of the (if not THE) largest most extensive archival collections of Todd's rare audio on the planet.
I do not have any rights to, and I am not open for sharing any material that may be listed below that has been commercially or officially released and is still available retail. (It may be listed below for collection listing purpose only). I do not take or give any money for a single item below either. I do not take away any proceeds that are due to Todd Rundgren, family, friends, business or supporting/associated musicians. If it is ROIO (recording of independent origin),then I'm open to share. Support the artist! Go buy his stuff where and whenever available! Speaking of which; the ultimate place to find/buy Todd's releases and imports & rarities is TRBAZAAR. Check it out ! If Scott ain't got it it, nobody does...just about!
I give Tony a ton of applause for his relentless cause of collecting this stuff from around the globe. You can write him at the TRconnection Forum and thank him too. We've also recently been working in collaboration with my friend Frank Bubnick and his well known vast quality collection (you can visit his list by clicking on his name). WOW! Maybe I can do a "Credits" list here below, on down the road. Like to make sure all the folks involved are appreciated. For now, let me go ahead and thank some folks that have really been intrumental in these archives (no particular order): Tony Rogers (of course), Jeff Gauss (Weavil), Frank Bubnick, Paul Russo, Hiroshi Kawauchi, Istvan, Roger Steel, Mike Adrian, Gil Ireland-Ashley, Gary Urwin, Don B., Bob Stanislowski (RIP), Micheal B., Jon Risen, Jon Babcock, Mark Wilpolt, Tom Cannon, Joe Franks, Richard Roys, Storm Hunter, Sara K., Moz, and players to be named later. Special thanks to Roger Linder for providing this page space for decades. Let's Rock!

1995 THE INDIVIDUALIST ELECTRONIC PRESS KIT CD/MIXED MEDIA 40:00
Date Added:8/23/2001
Track List:TODD RAPS ABOUT DIFFERENT SUBJECTS. IF NOT NOW WHEN?. COMPUTER DATA. (MACINTOSH STUFF). MACINTOSH COMMERCIAL.
Note:Cool as hell for Todd's answers. This is pretty essential for the hardcore.
6/8/95 PALO ALTO THE EDGE AUDIENCE 54:43/60:19
Date Added:7/6/2005
Track List:CD ONE: IF NOT NOW, WHEN?. TEMPORARY SANITY. BLACK AND WHITE. FAMILY VALUES. THE INDIVIDUALIST. HAMMER IN MY HEART. TABLES WILL TURN. CD TWO: BELOVED INFIDEL (ABORTED). BELOVED INFIDEL. MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. CAST THE FIRST STONE. FASCIST CHRIST. WOMAN'S WORLD. ESPRESSO. WORLDWIDE EPHIPHANY. LUCKY GUY
Note:The controversial opener that was flogged badly in the early days of Todd's net presence...Prairie Prince is all over the place and gets chastised by Todd on Beloved Infidel...it is funny all around as things are being sorted out onstage...clearly under-rehearsed...average sound quality, but there are moments of fun as the band gets its first look at how its gonna be...nice to have to compare...pull out (Google) the Compuserve stuff that went down at the time...people acted like it was treason...~ Tony
6/12/95 LOS ANGELES HOUSE OF BLUES SOUNDBOARD 66:47/65:42
Track List:CD ONE: IF NOT NOW, WHEN?. HAMMER IN MY HEART. NO1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. FAMILY VALUES. TABLES WILL TURN. BLACK AND WHITE. ESPRESSO. THE INDIVIDUALIST. MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED CD TWO: BELOVED INFIDEL. CAST THE FIRST STONE. WOMAN'S WORLD. TEMPORARY SANITY. FASCIST CHRIST. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY
Note:The band is playing a very early gig. There are many mistakes… loose vocal response but nevertheless it is a clear document that around this time, there was still very little rehearsal and a lot of West Coast shows would be booked in smaller warm up venues for the first few nights. Sound is clear here.~ Tony
7/8/95 CHICAGO VIC THEATER (INCOMPLETE) AUDIENCE 46:18/42:07
Date Added:7/8/2005

Note:90 mins of 100 of the Chicago scene - the sound is glazes a bit but not bad...at some points the glaze lifts...energetic performance...some lyrics forgotten...nice feel to the medley "Chicago swing"...shame it is a bit distance...a superb...prob the best version of Tables Will Turn is here...Woman’s World is decent and calm and in control...I think Black Maria and one other were played in full after the cut in Espresso...kind of weird getting WWE so early...

WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.
Note:"C’mon everybody-its 1995..." Todd screams at the peak of WWE. Great performance in the smoking east coast 95 runs thru the NE and points south. The recording does vary in sound but the good news is that it varies from real strong to super...so-also I hear a splice from The New Britain show -digital editing in Woman’s World~ Tony
7/18/95 THE STING NEW BRITAIN CT FM SOURCE 56:08/61:40

7/23/95 THE TROCADERO PHILADELPHIA PA w/SOUNDCHECK AUDIENCE 08:10/11:53/42:00/74:53
Date Added:6/15/2013
Track List:SOUNDCHECK: MISC. INDIVIDUALIST TUNES JAM. BLACK & WHITE.FAMILY VALUES.
DISC ONE: BLACK & WHITE. TEMPORARY INSANITY. NO. 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. FAMILY VALUES. HAMMER IN MY HEART. TABLES WILL TURN. DISC TWO: BELOVED INFIDEL. ESPRESSO. THE INDIVIUALIST. MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN & BUSTED. WOMAN'S WORLD. AUDIENCE CHATTER. BLACK MARIA. FACIST CHRIST (CUTS)
Note:This one just in from the vaults. I found a DAT (and transferred it). Unknown authored audience recording that is not too bad. Acoustics/instrumentation pretty good but vocals sound distant and bassy. Shame too, because you can feel the energy that Todd always portrays for Philli. This show rocks! If the vocal phonics were up there, this would be a real collector's trophy. Maybe someday somebody may want to play around with it... and give her an upgrade. Any takers that can bring the vocals to the front? The Mystified/Broke Down & Busted Medley is ELECTRIC! Then there's tape slips and snaps/pops here and there in it. Damn it!
A special collector's gem I also have here is the soundcheck! This is super rare! Don't know who the taper was....Thanks to Frank Bubnick for my copy. A little jam of pieces of 'Individualist' tunes, then 'Black & White' and 'Family Values'.~ Warren
7/24/95 WASHINGTON DC THE BAYOU AUDIENCE 68:46/55:11
Track List:CD ONE: INTRO. TABLES WILL TURN. BLACK MARIA. THE INDIVIDUALIST. FAMILY VALUES. BLACK AND WHITE. TEMPORARY SANITY. ESPRESSO. BELOVED INFIDEL. CAST THE FIRST STONE. CD TWO: MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. HAMMER IN MY HEART. IF NOT NOW, WHEN?. FASCIST CHRIST. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. WOMAN'S WORLD.
Note:Only problem here is the splice in Mystified. One of the best Individualist stops, performance wise. Damn them for leveling the Bayou. great tapes came from there. ESSENTIAL Incredible recording - Barry's is the BEST recording from the Washington Bayou ever!~ Tony
7/26/95 THE COCA-COLA ROXY THEATRE ATLANTA AUDIENCE~ WARREN (AND SECOND SOURCE MOSNER'S ENCORE) 43:25/1:06:11
Date Added:6/15/2013
Track List:CD ONE: INTRO MUSIC. BLACK MARIA. WOMANS WORLD. FAMILY VALUES. HAMMER IN MY HEART. THE INDIVIDUALIST. BLACK AND WHITE. CD TWO: TABLES WILL TURN. LUCKY GUY. MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. IF NOT NOW, WHEN. FASCIST CHRIST. CAST THE FIRST STONE. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.

MOSNERS SOURCE OF ENCORE: FASCIST CHRIST. CAST THE FIRST STONE. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY

Note:A very good audience recording... if I do say so myself....chuckle chuck... and some equalization done afterwards. Great Individualist set. Atlanta just loves this guy, you know. Only problem is, we shout out requests. You know how that goes with Todd. Blistering guitar here (and a lot of Jesse). And notice Todd threw in 'Lucky Guy'. AWESOME. The Theatre is like a very steep movie theater. I was a few rows back from the stage center right. The guy next to us pretty much ruins Mystified/Broke Down & Busted' with his screaming. Todd introduces Jesse as 'The Exterminator'?
And thanks to Mosner (Moz) for his source recording of the last 4 tunes as well. Sounds like he was at a greater distance than me?~ Warren
8/2/95 NEW ORLEANS HOUSE OF BLUES AUDIENCE~ BRIAN WELSH 57:20/55:00
Date Added:7/8/2005
Track List:CD ONE: NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. IF NOT NOW, WHEN?. TEMPORARY SANITY. BLACK AND WHITE. THE INDIVIDUALIST. FAMILY VALUES. BLACK MARIA. TABLES WILL TURN. CD TWO: HAMMER IN MY HEART. CAST THE FIRST STONE. WOMAN'S W0RLD. BELOVED INFIDEL. FASCIST CHRIST. MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.
Note:Not as great as Austin but really good...the sound is a bit weaker but the show is very entertaining...someone gave Prairie some speed this night cause the tempos all night are off to the races…Temporary Sanity…the Individualist ends real cool...the speedy scene really kicks in at hammer...Cast The First Stone borders on being so fast as being a hardcore version of the song-it’s funny it’s so fast..punkish too….extended Todd solo on Fascist Christ…nice nice one-sound could be better but all in all a well above avg audie~ Tony
8/4/95 AUSTIN LIBERTY LUNCH AUDIENCE~ BRIAN WELSH 61:08/61:05
Date Added:6/15/2005
Track List:CD ONE: INTRO MUSIC(HERB ALPERT-A TASTE OF HONEY)/FIREWORKS RAP/BLACK MARIA. WOMAN'S WORLD. BLACK AND WHITE. FAMILY VALUES. TABLES WILL TURN. AMBIENCE. HAMMER IN MY HEART. BELOVED INFIDEL. THE INDIVIDUALIST. CD TWO: TEMPORARY SANITY. CAST THE FIRST STONE. FASCIST CHRIST. IF NOT NOW, WHEN?. MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY
Note:This one is certain to make a big splash in the traders circuit… this in my mind is one of faithful taper Brian Welsh's best and thanks to Sara we now have it on CD...and what a killer jolt to remind you of the power of Todd... the show has a strange order to the tunes that really restrains, then suspends, then expands, and explodes energy at a very high level of craft...one of these nights that show the planets do align...Prairie Prince is dancing in the clouds all night with power and finesse..Pushing the band with little fills in the creases....Jesse is amazing on the closer mystified. And what a circus it is at this point...Larry Tagg really gives the band an almost metal bottom end with his 72 Fender driving...his playing, especially on CD 2 is a revelation...I don’t think many fans heard these recordings of his latter gigs with Todd...he is a lot more confident and feels loose enough to play more runs than heard on the east coast run... sound quality of this is as good as it gets....still this one, is an absolute electronic ecstatic assault....their performance is monster although Todd’s voice was a bit rough, he ground it out...and it kills...my only complaint here is that if WWE could have been a bit slower (i.e.,...New Britain)…they may have levitated the building- other than that, this is a great place to rest your head.....monster performance...~ Tony
8/5/95 DALLAS DEEP ELLUM LIVE AUDIENCE 79:18/30:33
Date Added:6/17/2005
Track List:CD ONE: BLACK AND WHITE. FAMILY VALUES. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. TABLES WILL TURN. LUCKY GUY. TEMPORARY SANITY. THE INDIVIDUALIST. HAMMER IN MY HEART. MYSTFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. IF NOT NOW, WHEN? CD TWO: BLACK MARIA. CAST THE FIRST STONE. FASCIST CHRIST (BARELY CUTS IN). WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY (BARELY CUTS IN)
Note:Another Individualist show from the scorching 95 tour…middle one of the 3 Texas shows performance is not quite up to the other 2 nights (esp Austin)..Commentary about Mary Kay cosmetics convention...a bit boxy sound-wise...could use some fine noise reduction but never will be like 8/4, kind of detached as opposed to the other nights, but it’s impossible to bleed like the 8/4 and 8/6 every night...some yap here…but It’s quite good, not legendary like I think 8/4 will become~ Tony
8/6/95 DALLAS DEEP ELLUM LIVE AUDIENCE (1ST GEN BRIAN WELSH)
Date Added:6/17/2005
Track List:CD ONE: INTRO/HAMMER IN MY HEART. THE INDIVIDUALIST. BLACK AND WHITE. FAMILY VALUES. TEMPORARY SANITY. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. FAMILY VALUES. CD TWO: FASCIST CHRIST. TABLES WILL TURN. WOMANS WORLD.MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. IF NOT NOW, WHEN?. BLACK MARIA. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.
Note:Another great one from the huge state of Texas, the sound is a bit less than 8/4 and the performance is very close. On this recording, there are super takes of: Family Values, Tables, No 1....lots of great and funny banter this night...such as ..."don’t eat your seed", "veritable swag fest", "panic stricken local band"… 22 min version of Myst/BD & B…this one believe it or not (doesn't happen often) needs some bass boost....very very nice complete show~ Tony
8/11/95 MEMPHIS NEW DAISY THEATER AUDIENCE 61:53/54;10
Date Added:7/6/2005
Track List:CD ONE: HAMMER IN MY HEART. TABLES WILL TURN. BALCK AND WHITE. FAMILY VALUES. DRUGRAP/THE INDIVIDUALIST. BLACK MARIA. BELOVED INFIDEL. TEMPORARY SANITY. CD TWO: MYSTIFIED/BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. WOMAN'S WORLD. NO. 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. FASCIST CHRIST. LUCKY GUY. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY.
Note:Hot temperature, hot performance, needs a bit of bass increased, no smoothie..some yap quotient....all in all a sweaty Individualist smoker...
12/28/95 NEWPORT MUSIC HALL COLUMBUS AUDIENCE (AUDIO DUBBED OFF ROGER STEEL'S VIDEO) N/A
Date Added:7/4/2012
Track List:WOMAN'S WORLD.BLACK AND WHITE (CUTS QUUCKLY). NO. 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR.TABLES WILL TURN.THE WHEEL.CAST THE FIRST STONE.ESPRESSO.THE INDIVIDUALIST.BLACK MARIA.BANG THE DRUM ALL DAY.TEMPORARY SANITY.ONE WORLD.
Note:Decent audience recording. Roger's video, from what I've seen, is awesome. The performance is very tight. And Todd is in incredible form for Columbus. The video is ESSENTIAL to have. Thanks Roger!
12/30/95 CLEVELAND AGORA AUDIENCE (JOE KONIKOW) 58:37/50:03
Date Added:7/27/2002
Track List:CD ONE: HAMMER IN MY HEART. TABLES WILL TURN. FASCIST CHRIST. BLACK AND WHITE. FAMILY VALUES. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. BANG THE DRUM ALL DAY. LUCKY GUY. CD TWO: THE INDIVIDUALIST. BLACK MARIA. ONE WORLD. TEMPORARY SANITY. WORLDWIDE EPIPHANY. THE WHEEL.
Note:Joe’s audience recording...some yap is here but not bad for Cleveland. Todd does a real cool strident pedestrian beat version of One World with Prairie that changes the whole feel of the song- same with the Wheel (which Larry had to learn again onstage here)-chaos on Bang On The Drum, of course...Todd’s voice is croaking at the end of The Wheel , but Jesse's leads on it take the song into a whole new place and are really something special here. Sound quality- not flawless but a damn good audie for a Holiday one off at the Agora.~ Tony
