Largest Collection On The Globe of Todd Rundgren Audio Rarities

Greetings Audio Toddheads! Warren H. (Atlanta, GA. USA) here. Tony Rogers and I have transferred our entire audio collections over to my home in 2008. We (Tony & I) thought my circumstances (A 62 year old, single, IT specialist/Audio Editor guy in Atlanta with lots of Todd Rundgren history/archival collecting since 1972) would be ideal for taking over the 'Library' in all its glory. And, so an 'incorporation' of his and my colossal collections takes place! I now curate this ‘museum’. And I plan to share much of this, just as Tony did all these decades. And yes, I’m somewhat of a Todd Rundgren Historian. I have been 'following' Todd extensively (in all forms of media) ever since I saw (and met) him here at an Historic Show at Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theatre on November 8 1973. So I know 'enough'. Please note that I say share my enthusiasm. No buying or selling. Nor will a penny exchange hands. Never.
I want to say a big THANK YOU in advance to all of you who are going to help and have helped with this so far. I’ll do my best. Write me anytime. twarrenh@gmail.com
Just scroll down to the items listed below by period and click on any year to browse the collection.
We've also recently been working in collaboration with my friend Frank Bubnick and his well known vast quality collection (you can visit his list by clicking on his name). Some of his editing is unequaled anywhere.
And some late breaking neat news : I believe most of you are familiar with the JEMS group. A bunch of super collectors for many bands’ audience recordings (predominate though are Yes and Springsteen). Well known for their re-mastering prowess and quality. They’ve been in contact with me for a couple of years, and in December of last year offered me all their (originals) Todd Rundgren Collection. They just didn’t have the resources or the time for refining anything by Todd Rundgren. It just wasn’t on their timeline. I received all their cassettes (60) within a few weeks! Most of them are MASTER tapes from the original Taper. They will be sending me all their DATs and Reels at a later date. I will be listing all these recordings here, as I digitally transfer them. With this addition of the JEMS collection I believe these Todd Rundgren Archives are easily the largest collection on the planet.
How do we share you ask? Well, Just for what it's worth, we really don't do the 'snail mail trading' (by postal) much these days. So, if you would like me to share or trade any of this 'Catalog' with you, it would be more convenient/easiest to share in the form of on-line file transfer. Generally, in .flac format, compressed to .zip or .rar for smoother/faster quality exchange [depending upon the size of the audio file(s) we might be exchanging of course]. Hope that all makes sense. I can work with you on 'all that'. Again, write me, and then we'll come to an agreement of sorts. Please keep in mind, that anything that is 'Official', or 'Professionally Marketed', or still available for 'Retail' purchase is not of consideration. Nor is there any monetary means of transaction.
I do not have any rights to, and I am not open for sharing any material that may be listed below that has been commercially or officially released and is still available retail. (It may be listed below for collection listing purpose only). I do not take or give any money for a single item below either. I do not take away any proceeds that are due to Todd Rundgren, family, friends, business or supporting/associated musicians. If it is ROIO (recording of independent origin), then I'm open to share. Support the artist! Go buy his stuff where and whenever available! Speaking of which; an ultimate place to find/buy Todd's releases and imports & rarities is TRBAZAAR. Check it out! If Scott ain't got it, nobody does...just about! And of course many past official CD/DVD releases and proprietary Todd merchandise is readily available for ordering on-line at The Toddstore. So check them out for sure.
I like to give credit where credit is due too. So please forgive me if I do not credit the right persons involved in making these recordings available/possible for all these years.
I’ll start a ‘Credits’ list here below, and maintain it on down the road. Like to make sure all the folks involved are appreciated. For now, let me go ahead and thank some folks that have really been instrumental in these archives (no particular order): Tony Rogers (of course), Mike Armes, Jeff Gauss 'Weavil' (RIP), Frank Bubnick, Paul Russo, Hiroshi Kawauchi, Istvan Berzenczei, Sara Kritzer, Barry Beiseigel, Marc Linowitz, Rob 'Lockjaw' Levangie, Roger Steel, Mike Adrian, Gil Ireland-Ashley, Jim Farrell, Dale Michelsohn, Gary Urwin, Don B., Bob Stanislowski (RIP), Micheal B., Jon Risen, Jon Babcock, Mark Wilpolt, Tom Cannon, Lin Sprague, Joe Franks, Chris 'Razz', Geoff (& Rick) Laurenzo, Ted Moon, Richard Roys, Storm Hunter, Moz (Mike), Sohta Fujito, David Skye, Allen Law, Matt Walsh, Kevin Lewis, Doug Ford, Dave Knife, JEMS, Jared Houser, Gene Poole, 'Elegymart', Gail Artsgard, Victor Baissait, Connor Payne and players to be named later. Special thanks to Roger Linder for providing this page space for us for decades. Let's Rock!
BTW, I call this group of people 'My Cartel'. However, I have given the group a Media name: F451 Media (as in 451 Farenheit). It is not a brand name, for nothing of mine is for sale or has been sold EVER. It is a logo for these dedicated Todd Rundgren Collectors , which most of been doing this since the early 90s (and even earler). Our logo is:

Note:‘Kingrue’ says, “Here's another brand new Todd Rundgren, digitized and flac'd for the first time. (too bad Dime loses out on all these Rundgren shows) From the lineup, you can see Todd's got a big band with a dozen people on stage. Todd had just released his latest studio album "2nd Wind" in Januray 1991. ( 7 of those new tracks are performed ) Thanks to Wes for taping the show. Now we can finally hear it.”
Awesome Recording of Todd and ‘The Big Band’ in 1991! ESSENTIAL ‘FIND’!~ Warren

Note:This one is a strange one. We have this audience recording divided into two different fidelities. The first half (Intro through Unloved Children) is none too good and the second portion (The Smell of Money through Public Servant) is pretty good. Do we have two different tapings? We do not know. It’s a shame too, because Todd always puts on a flawless show for us here in Hotlanta. Only good thing is that we have the whole show, it seems, for collection record.~ Warren

Excellent Audience Recording (Soundboard-like). I can't believe we never brought this one to life from cassettes until now. I only brought the vocals out. Magnifcient Performance. They're on fire here. Barry Beisiegle asked that I transfer it, and I'm glad I did, for this is one of my favorite shows (I have a fan film video of it. Some is on YouTube I think). We have a few Soundboards from the 1991 Tour and this Wonderful audience recording will accent them nicely. ~Warren

Note:Bonus new monitor/soundboard mix from 2nd Wind venue early on...Jesse’s solo on Love of the Common Man...the clapping kind of odd on these 2 A Cappella tunes...can really feel Prairie Prince as opposed to Urbano on Parallel Lines...Unloved Children – Todd’s guitar screams - very nice guitar playing...Prairie really kicks Change Myself into gear...it fades early...some slight warble at the start and one keyboard part is very high in the mix... (Sabino?) - also should say that Mingo is along for the ride on this show, and it really adds to the flavor....also Prairie is very rhythmically mature compared to the Nearly Human band..happily and monster version of Feel It...Prairie and Todd playing off each other in solo...super...on the car commercial song (2nd Wind) the guitars pan in the mix...Jesse’s and Todds in the center section...Public Servant is distortion city...in the solo Jesse quotes the Ikon.~ Tony

KINDNESS. SECRET SOCIETY/SOMETHING TO FALL BACK ON/ROCK LOVE. LOST HORIZON/WHATS GOING ON/MERCY MERCY ME/I WANT YOU/FEEL IT. 2ND WIND. HELLO ITS ME. JESSE. PUBLIC SERVANT.
Note:General: Some wow and flutter but pretty special show, balanced pretty well...Todd’s vocals pretty good this night...some great stuff this in show: Todd delivers some great adlibs to Who’s Sorry Now and I think although it was slower on the live track, it works better that way..Nevertheless the big surprise was what came next...I was there by the way visiting some friends studying at NYU.....to the intro of "…Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United States, George Walker Bush…”, and then Dana Carvey does his thing...talks about how he and Barbara get hot when they listen to Love Science...then after a bit of him talking about Todd, then he goes into to the Church Lady and attacks the garb of the band, calling the gals 'assorted sluts over here.." it’s brilliant and an all time moment in live Todd history...superb versions of the A Cappella tunes follow...ace as well with Parallel Lines.....Jesse's solos in the holes are loud on CSR...one thing I'm not crazy about is the big sound of Prairie's snare on the 2nd Wind stuff, don’t know who's idea it was..the songs would have been way better in my opinion with a warmer sound, maybe a wood snare sound...that snare is throughout the album and this tour...my point can be best understood by checking out Ventura or Sacramento where the big snare is not there...big gate also on Change Myself...I like the feel of the 3 dance tunes better with Prairie Prince but Sabino's solos in Rock Love were a bit dry - so slow on the M. Gaye medley - it's great--a sweet Feel It as well..2nd Wind is very fast...him sounds so much more jazzy than the NH tour...Public Servant is just like your body sliding down a piece of steel for several stories face first...scalding and plodding by design... inches along...really important show here. ESSENTIAL. ~ Tony

Note:General: mix omits Jesse at start...suggest to eq the highs...these shows are longer makes me think of the old metal 110s... tunes observations: tempo very slow on Love Science...some tape flutter on Real Man but settles in later in the tune....nice Mighty Love..Still love the deep soul thing Prairie Prince has on grooves of the 2 Nearly Human tunes...very very slow Unloved Children...great big drums on the M. Gaye thing..muffs on Rock Love intro...bowling banter abounds...exciting as hell…Feel It- Todd's guitar is off the cuff and the hook....nice pans on 2nd Wind guitar passage but some bends are flat...very vocal heavy mix on Want of a Nail...Public Servant is fricking stone metal slate rock...like a thick granite wall---Jesse’s leads are amazing on the out chorus........ another gemmy gem gem from these usual suspects!~ Tony

Note:Sad that this is the end of the big batch… a huge debt owed to Gil Ireland-Ashley. He's really provided great quantities of top notch stuff for which we will always be grateful....bit of fluff at the start...Todd acknowledges his Mommy's Bday onstage - both A Cappellas nice this night...Jesse has an unusually rough time with Can't Stop Running...some caramel stuff going on, loss of highs on Lost Horizon till about 1:10...this is a vocal heavy mix...Feel It is blissful....this is a sharp contrast to the newer Jesse...Jesse is high in this mix...if you’re a Gress fan, as I am...This one is for you....some distorted sounds here, but all in all, a nice one, and long as well...~ Tony

This version has The last track being 55 minutes of Lost Horizon, Marvin Gay Medley, Feel It, 2nd Wind, Want of A Nail, Hello It's Me, One World & Public Servant. The Shout Factory version is only available by mp3 download (on several retail sites) and it does not have the extra encores...It ends with the last track (17) being Second Wind. So we have a great find here. Thank you Sohta Fujito for his investigative work. I’d also like to thank Istvan for his version from ‘The BIG BOX' (of 9 discs). Note:This really cool. Istvan did an excellent dub (and sorted the Tracks) of the recently surfaced Pro-Shot Video of this show. It’s also mixed with the unadultered and unedited CD of the Show, so we get all the fun mistakes and Banter that is not on OFFICIAL “LIVE IN CHICAGO ’91 (SET THREE)’ (Crowne Todd Archives Vol. 3) from the ‘Can’t Stop Running’ Box Set/The Sanctuary Record Group (CMXBX729). Thank You Istvan!~ Warren

9/21/91 BREAD & ROSES ACOUSTIC MUSIC FESTIVAL GREEK THEATRE BERKELEY CA AUDIENCE RECORDING COURTESY OF GIL IRELAND ASHLEY N/A
Date Added:9/12/2019
Track List:INTRODUCTION.LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.THERE GOES MY INSPIRATION.CLICHÉ.ONE WORLD.BAND INTROS-TINY DEMONS.MARVIN GAYE MEDLEY.THE WHEEL.
Note:I love these 'One Offs' as you can tell. This tape transferred for me by Gil. The recording had lots of weaknesses. After I did allot of work on this one, it came out pretty well (I think). There was lots of stoned yap and moving around of the mic, and I tried to remove much of it. And I just couldn't get the bass present on a couple of tunes. But it is an acoustic performance. Audience noise just is what it is. Todd is playing a twelve string which required lots of tuning between tunes. But it's a tremendous short performance and a very fun listen. It's a very Rare tape that for sure. Worth a listen. And Thank You Gil Ireland-Ashley!~ Warren
