I LOVE MY LIFE Note:what is this? well, it is rehearsal..yes actual top shelf sounding rehearsals for the NH tour...there is little joking around here..they were getting to the arrangements. todd runs em through the paces on some..working out transitions, dynamics, etc...when you think about it, these are the FIRST ever playings of this stuff besides the recordings-they did have the fillmore gig in spring, but hawking, etc..they work on the swell..it will kill you..hawking has some devastating moments in it..s s is too fast and you wonder why they would pick such tunes given the ensemble...nail seems to sound more off the cuff than the others....the focus of this rehearsal was vocals but you can tell there are points still being polished..for someone like me(nutjob), this is a dream to hear it being put together....thanks to gil foranother one of a kind winners..wow |

I LOVE MY LIFE Note:another installment in the series from gil trans by paul...super sound but oddly mixed. the guitar is up, one key is up, bck vcs down, only one horn..makes for an odd but interesting cocktail..this show is about 2 weeks in...cant stop running has a very oddular type gtr solo--at end solo much better..can really hear the difference in mix in compassion...secret society is slowed down somewhat--voc and gtr overload some on demons...todd suffers a small crap out at the peak of mated (very unusual)..love in action is at a racing tempo..todds solo lifts an average feel it to great heights with true raunch o rama sound ala the old mustang in 79..cool cool but sleazy solo...todd jibes bobby a bit for playing between tunes before hawking...90% hawking...falsetto is merely ok..this night it doesnt sound natural..probably it is the mix..life tries to redeem but the groove is much too surface and no depth to even approach the JB gesture.....this cd shows balance is important-todd has said as much about board tapes..another great job thanks to russo/ireland-ashely..the first of 2 shows in a very short time span of in columbus-in the middle of ohio- |

I LOVE MY LIFE(FADES) Note:gen notes: nice full sound-very nice exceptionally nice balance out of this batch.trs voc is bit grainy but its nice for most-it does get a bit worse towards the end (shame)...the real reason you need this one is the guest appearance of our old friend ND SmartII..who guests sings background from hawking on out..and believe it or not,,even with this many voices, his makes a difference.... tunes: ulc has reall cool tr leads..voc probs surface at about secret society, compassion....on cliche the voice recovers for a short while..this vocs leads to a humorous (deliberately, of course) peak on mated...feel it is nice despite the vocal challeneges, the leads make up for it at end-some of best solos on this...the one weird spot where todd gives the lia intro i think is a mistake by todd, not the splice...nail pretty much falls to hell w/ trs voc..pretty loose and fun-partly due to todds voice at end and partly due to norman being there..anyhow--its a blast...another great aspect of this one is the "wheel of fortune" making its first appearance on "love my life"--wish it would not have faded out soon thereafter but it does...despite todds voice, everything else is clicking on this one and if you only need a few from this enormous gaggle of joy that has recently come our way through gil, you need this one for sure in that 5 or so....thanks again to g and p!! |

I LOVE MY LIFE Note:general notes/mix: mix varies some during this but the real thing that makes this different is the setlist which misses the first 2 and more signif, feel it.. tunes: bv very high on p lines. very great gtr solos on secret society-lyle w really nails it..innovative--rapping about woodstock and how nice the venue is.t demons is graced by a superb lead by Lyle....on cliche' todd reverts to the very early live phrasing probably because lyle and larry play it like the version on faithful..cross fade after cliche into the puzzler of the night, cwsbf...very odd feel, no downbeat present for a lot of the song..almost reserved version..sounds like one doesnt know whether to stand or walk --almost up and down groove (bereft of soul)..then mated moves forward and back to the feel we know..talking about going through customs....todd actually misses a word on the gaye medley right before the fade (hardly a miss on this tour)..little shredded vocs by nail.right into life: the economical version-not as long as others have been..nice breakdown part ala the video in japan...for those who think life is always way too long, youll like this version...unique so far to my ears |

Note:winding down our way towards the end of this amazing batch of 89s..cant say enough thanks to gil for these amazing treats-all of these are top notch and paul has done another fine job of editing and eqing the tapes to make them sound nice... general: trs guitar is low, the background vocals are high, lyle workman is high first three songs are definitely less passionate than the 16th. the mix is pretty standard by this time particulars: lyle is on a speed trip with his secret society (all hammering n shit)....and a totally atonal solo on demons...amazing.....the splice between cliche and lia is nice...interesting lyric shift on lost horizon.."i TELL myself maybe someday ill sing w/ you"...great drama to set up trs lead on gtr on feel it...not very loud tr gtr, very nice lines but low in mix..because of this fact alone, only one of better feel its, not best one..could have been with trs gtr vol up..life fades before beauty section...all in all pretty cool show.....in top 5 or so from this batch..... |

Note:general: balance is pretty good..lyle is up a bit..bck vocs are ok well balanced... tunes: tr varies adlibs at end of real man..something about a flood somewhere is mentioned....neptune flyby is referenced..maybe they wanted to go to nasa??/spectacular with grit version of insipration....in fact all 3 tunes in ctr are great this night lyle is star on cliche'..only lyle gtr audible on cwsbf???mated fades at start..nice to have waiting game but vocs strain at high end..hawking is as good as it gets..i know i praised the one from a week or so ago but this one is really a flattener-the band has the absolute best dynamics on the song ive ever heard-this is the sound of one organism...the fades and dynamics are spine chilling..best hawking so far period...at end of this miracle, todd tells us "hes being kicked out of the rock world" 3 more dates, but he says "he can reapply next year"..a great great loving spirit pervades this set..one of the nicer ones,, i know i said cincy was up there but this has the shit running on all cylinders....gem in a batch of gems from gil and paul..... |

I LOVE MY LIFE(fades) Note:general mix/notes: band way more loose, almost hard to get space at all here..penultimate show of the tour....way more notes ..mix fairly balanced here-trs vocs are a bit loud..but decent proportion between back and tr tunes: changed adlibs in PLINES..cross fade at end of stfbo...stage chatter: todd remarks hes listening to the 4th moon of neptune"(something picking up frequencies)..can hear the celeste front and center on mated-which is superb..loud gtr on waiting game(poor bal on this tune), urbano very good on LIA..shockingly sloppy keyboard work on the m gaye medley suggests onebody mighta had too much...feel it ..too many notes and no space for a groove but a memorable version-the solo is wicked-kick major ass..some herb..gals are onstage singing softly "a scret, a secret"...before encores..related to key work?? who knows???hawking is also fucking amazing..one of the best of all..lots of notes but still it floats like a feather...fades on life |
