Largest Collection On The Globe of Todd Rundgren Audio Rarities

Greetings Audio Toddheads! Warren H. (Atlanta, GA. USA) here. Tony Rogers and I have transferred our entire audio collections over to my home in 2008. We (Tony & I) thought my circumstances (A 62 year old, single, IT specialist/Audio Editor guy in Atlanta with lots of Todd Rundgren history/archival collecting since 1972) would be ideal for taking over the 'Library' in all its glory. And, so an 'incorporation' of his and my colossal collections takes place! I now curate this ‘museum’. And I plan to share much of this, just as Tony did all these decades. And yes, I’m somewhat of a Todd Rundgren Historian. I have been 'following' Todd extensively (in all forms of media) ever since I saw (and met) him here at an Historic Show at Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theatre on November 8 1973. So I know 'enough'. Please note that I say share my enthusiasm. No buying or selling. Nor will a penny exchange hands. Never.
I want to say a big THANK YOU in advance to all of you who are going to help and have helped with this so far. I’ll do my best. Write me anytime. twarrenh@gmail.com
Just scroll down to the items listed below by period and click on any year to browse the collection.
We've also recently been working in collaboration with my friend Frank Bubnick and his well known vast quality collection (you can visit his list by clicking on his name). Some of his editing is unequaled anywhere.
And some late breaking neat news : I believe most of you are familiar with the JEMS group. A bunch of super collectors for many bands’ audience recordings (predominate though are Yes and Springsteen). Well known for their re-mastering prowess and quality. They’ve been in contact with me for a couple of years, and in December of last year offered me all their (originals) Todd Rundgren Collection. They just didn’t have the resources or the time for refining anything by Todd Rundgren. It just wasn’t on their timeline. I received all their cassettes (60) within a few weeks! Most of them are MASTER tapes from the original Taper. They will be sending me all their DATs and Reels at a later date. I will be listing all these recordings here, as I digitally transfer them. With this addition of the JEMS collection I believe these Todd Rundgren Archives are easily the largest collection on the planet.
How do we share you ask? Well, Just for what it's worth, we really don't do the 'snail mail trading' (by postal) much these days. So, if you would like me to share or trade any of this 'Catalog' with you, it would be more convenient/easiest to share in the form of on-line file transfer. Generally, in .flac format, compressed to .zip or .rar for smoother/faster quality exchange [depending upon the size of the audio file(s) we might be exchanging of course]. Hope that all makes sense. I can work with you on 'all that'. Again, write me, and then we'll come to an agreement of sorts. Please keep in mind, that anything that is 'Official', or 'Professionally Marketed', or still available for 'Retail' purchase is not of consideration. Nor is there any monetary means of transaction.
I do not have any rights to, and I am not open for sharing any material that may be listed below that has been commercially or officially released and is still available retail. (It may be listed below for collection listing purpose only). I do not take or give any money for a single item below either. I do not take away any proceeds that are due to Todd Rundgren, family, friends, business or supporting/associated musicians. If it is ROIO (recording of independent origin), then I'm open to share. Support the artist! Go buy his stuff where and whenever available! Speaking of which; an ultimate place to find/buy Todd's releases and imports & rarities is TRBAZAAR. Check it out! If Scott ain't got it, nobody does...just about! And of course many past official CD/DVD releases and proprietary Todd merchandise is readily available for ordering on-line at The Toddstore. So check them out for sure.
I like to give credit where credit is due too. So please forgive me if I do not credit the right persons involved in making these recordings available/possible for all these years.
I’ll start a ‘Credits’ list here below, and maintain it on down the road. Like to make sure all the folks involved are appreciated. For now, let me go ahead and thank some folks that have really been instrumental in these archives (no particular order): Tony Rogers (of course), Mike Armes, Jeff Gauss 'Weavil' (RIP), Frank Bubnick, Paul Russo, Hiroshi Kawauchi, Istvan Berzenczei, Sara Kritzer, Barry Beiseigel, Marc Linowitz, Rob 'Lockjaw' Levangie, Roger Steel, Mike Adrian, Gil Ireland-Ashley, Jim Farrell, Dale Michelsohn, Gary Urwin, Don B., Bob Stanislowski (RIP), Micheal B., Jon Risen, Jon Babcock, Mark Wilpolt, Tom Cannon, Lin Sprague, Joe Franks, Chris 'Razz', Geoff (& Rick) Laurenzo, Ted Moon, Richard Roys, Storm Hunter, Moz (Mike), Sohta Fujito, David Skye, Allen Law, Matt Walsh, Kevin Lewis, Doug Ford, Dave Knife, JEMS, Jared Houser, Gene Poole, 'Elegymart', Gail Artsgard, Victor Baissait, Connor Payne and players to be named later. Special thanks to Roger Linder for providing this page space for us for decades. Let's Rock!
BTW, I call this group of people 'My Cartel'. However, I have given the group a Media name: F451 Media (as in 451 Farenheit). It is not a brand name, for nothing of mine is for sale or has been sold EVER. It is a logo for these dedicated Todd Rundgren Collectors , which most of been doing this since the early 90s (and even earler). Our logo is:

Note:This entry mostly for Collection listing purposes only. The Album is Official. I encourage everybody to buy it. Support the Artist. But, through Istvan I have a ‘it all’ as far as ‘Love Bomb Rarities’ go. All the rarities are ESSENTIAL... for Todd is all over these. Not only the Producer, but close friends with many of the member...basically part of the Band here. You’ll hear lot’s of his Leadership, participation (vocals & instrumentation), instruction and sometimes criticism. In past Tours, he has used some of The Tubes repertoire from this Album~ Warren
1984 'RUNT -A CAPPELLA' BOOT CD (SDRM 91CD-0205) 38:00
Date Added:9/6/2020
Track List:BLUE ORPHEUS.JOHNEE JINGO.PRETENDING TO CARE.HODJA.LOST HORIZON.SOMETHING TO FALL BACK ON.MIRACLE IN THE BAZAAR.LOCKJAW.HONEST WORK.MIGHTY LOVE.
Note:This Boot just in from my ever ‘Faithful’ Buddy, and Nederlander, Istvan. ‘Early leak’ of the Album? We don’t know. Rumor has it that Todd had something to do with it (to piss off Grossman). Anyway, very rare, and very neat collection from the Album with some different sounds and mixes. Thanks Istvan!~ Warren

Track List:TOO MUCH WATER. ROCK LOVE. IF I DIDN'T TRY. HAMMER IN MY HEART. ABANDON CITY. YOU MAKE ME CRAZY. ITCH IN MY BRAIN. LOVE WITH A THINKER. SWING TO THE RIGHT. TRAPPED. CRYBABY.
Note:Oblivion show.Same CD as had made the rounds from before. Good job from an old source KBFH show.ESSENTIAL~ Warren
4/8/84 UTOPIA POUGHKEEPSIE THE CHANCE FM BROADCAST (2nd VERSION) 54:20/43:43
Date Added:2/10/2002
Track List:CD ONE: TOO MUCH WATER. ROCK LOVE. PRINCESS OF THE UNIVERSE. IF I DIDNT TRY. BRING ME MY LONGBOW. HAMMER IN MY HEART. ABANDON CITY. SET ME FREE. LYSISTRADA. ITCH IN MY BRAIN/LOVE WITH A THINKER. YOU MAKE ME CRAZY. SWING TO THE RIGHT CD TWO: THE VERY LAST TIME. TRAPPED. CARAVAN. LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS. CRYBABY. LOVE IS THE ANSWER.
Note:This is a great complete show thanks to some tracking and editing of the FM broadcasts (FM & CD...see entry above) of this show by Frank Bubnick. Very nice. This tour was the first that had that 'tech sound' (at that time) where the songs from Oblivion are featured.~ Warren
4/8/84 'ABANDON CHANCE CITY' CD BOOT (HIGHLAND PROJECT HLP-011) N/A
Date Added:8/30/2020
Track List:TOO MUCH WATER.ROCK LOVE.IF I DIDN'T TRY.HAMMER IN MY HEART.ABANDON CITY.SET ME FREE. YOU MAKE ME CRAZY.ITCH IN MY BRAIN.LOVE WITH A THINKER.SWING TO THE RIGHT.TRAPPED.CRYBABY.
Note:This CD Boot just in. It's 1984-04-08 Utopia The Chance Poughkeepsie Soundboard (KBFH?). Excellent sound, But it's chopped up as far as the order of performance and not the entire Show. We're missing much of the better songs: 'Princess of the Universe', 'Bring Me My Longbow', 'Lysistrata', 'The Very Last Time', 'Caravan', 'Last of the New Wave Riders'and 'Love is The Answer'! A collectors piece just the same. See other entries for the entire performance. ~ Warren
5/13/84 UTOPIA COAST TO COAST BALTIMORE MD AUDIENCE 75:54
Date Added:8/23/2002
Track List:TOO MUCH WATER. ROCK LOVE. PRINCESS OF THE UNIVERSE. IF I DIDNT TRY. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. HAMMER IN MY HEART. ABANDON CITY. SET ME FREE. ITCH IN MY BRAIN. LOVE WITH A THINKER. IM LOOKING AT YOU BUT IM TALKING TO MYSELF. YOU MAKE ME CRAZY. THE VERY LAST TIME. TRAPPED. LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS. CRYBABY.
Note:This transfer was mostly because of some of the performance contained. It is not as good as either the main FM shows, but the band is more confident here than either of those. It's an audience recording but quickly settles into a listenable 'Oblivion' document. The yap there does not distract from the performance. There are some adjustment problems on Too Much Water...If Didnt Try is a gem...Love of The Common Man sounds so high... can't believe he did it in this key for so long. Hammer In My Heart has a totally different feel to it than today. Willie just drives the bus home. Roger is smoking all night. Abandon City is merciless...Kazim and his bass playing while singing Set Me Free is suprising here...great stuff...Itch In My Brain is absolutely frantic - like in the midst of the end of the world - Todd ad-libs for awhile at the end of Thinker...missing from this due to yap and length considerations are: Lysistrada, Love In Action, JOV...the last 2 were somewhat marred...on this cd, you can hear the band saddle up on Willie for a ride. Willie really propels this show forward...this is one of his better ones (groove-wise). Again sound is not that great, so if lower fidelity bothers you, stay away and go to Chicago or Poughkeepsie...but hardcore collectors won't want to miss If I Didnt Try and Itch here~ Tony & Warren

Track List:TOO MUCH WATER.ROCK LOVE.PRINCESS OF THE UNIVERSE.IF I DIDN'T TRY (TR MINI KEYS).LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.HAMMER IN MY HEART.ABANDON CITY.SET ME FREE.LYSISTRATA. ITCH IN MY BRAIN.LOVE WITH A THINKER (KAS KEY'S).I'M LOOKING AT YOU BUT I'M TALKING TO MYSELF.YOU MAKE ME CRAZY.SWING TO THE RIGHT.THE VERY LAST TIME.TRAPPED.ROAD TO UTOPIA.CARAVAN.LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS.CRYBABY.LOVE IS THE ANSWER.JUST ONE VICTORY (CUTS).
Note:This one from Jon Risen’s vaults (He shared the audio on YouTube). I didn’t even know it was ‘out there’. He calls it a ‘rough listen’, but I think it is a real good and very rare audience recording.
Jon says, “Audience recording of Utopia during their Oblivion Tour at Bogart's in Cincinnati, Ohio may 21st 1984. Rough recording but this is one of the few shows they played Just One Victory, from what I understand. The taper must have only brought one tape because halfway through the show there are a lot of cuts between the songs, all of the songs are complete except JOV cuts off about halfway through. The show is complete. The audio is somewhat rough but listenable, this show is special to me because it was my first Utopia show, I was 9 years old at the time. I got to meet Roger, Kas and Todd and got their autographs. I was on cloud nine that night and it made quite an impression on my 9 year old brain...... anyway, enough of my story, enjoy the show!”
Thank you Mojorisen!

Track List:CD ONE: TOO MUCH WATER. ROCK LOVE. PRINCESS OF THE UNVERSE. IF I DIDNT TRY. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. HAMMER IN MY HEART. ABANDON CITY. SET ME FREE. ITCH IN MY BRAIN/LOVE WITH A THINKER. IM LOOKING AT YOU BUT IM TALKING TO MYSELF. YOU MAKE ME CRAZY. SWING TO THE RIGHT. THE VERY LAST TIME. TRAPPED CD TWO: ROAD TO UTOPIA. CARAVAN. LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS. CRYBABY. LOVE IS THE ANSWER. JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note:Probably(in the old days) the most often traded 1984 'Oblivion' show. And it sounds very good for an old audie..no it isn't better than the radio stuff Poughkeepsie/Chicago..but the performance is super. Some comments here: Willie's drumming on If I Didnt Try is super-great feel...Hammer sounds very different - groove wise...Abandon City crawls- it is real slow...makes for some great stuff happening. In fact, Todd's rhythm guitar on the mid set tunes shines...Itch In My Brain/Thinker is the best version performance wise - the guitar leads and ending of Thinker screams...Caravan - Roger goes freaky on the solos...at Crybaby, there is (w/ hysteria) a slight roughness to the sound which rebounds quickly in a few seconds. All in all, not the best sound, but nice and an exuberant performance...~ Tony & Warren

Date Added:1/29/2013
Track List:INTRO. BORN TO SYNTHESIZE. CLICHÉ. INTRO. HONEST WORK. ONE WORLD (WITH KASIM).
Note:Neat little 'one off' 19 minute set that Todd did for this Poetry Benefit in 1984. Just Todd with his guitar. Exceptional quality for an audience recording and One World (w/Kasim) is especially good. Thanks to Jon Babcock for dipping into his vaults for this little rare one.~ Warren

Note:After I did very much 'work' to this Audience Recording (Gil had transfered it from Cassette for us), I cannot believe how miraculous this now sounds for an Outdoor Stage ('Festival') Show. Sure there's the audience noise and chatter...that's expected. Lots of hand clapping to the beat of some of the tunes, but not annoying. The Afternoon Set starts off a little rough ('Too Much Water'), then phonics improve. The Evening Show, the Band is on fire, with two great Medleys! Both Shows; when the audience noise stops to just listen, the sound of the music is incredible. Lot's of 'Oblivion' here, that I know the Fans get to hear for the first time. All the performances are very burnable to 2 CDs for listening pleasure. I love this! ENJOY~ Warren
8/24/84 UTOPIA PIER 84 NEW YORK AUDIENCE BY MIKE ADRIAN 47:44/49:10

LOVE IS THE ANSWER. JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note:The exact equipment used to record this beauty was a Sony wm-D-6c with dolby on. With a set of shure mics. Mike Adrian was the recorder for this 'Oblivion' show. Thanks to Mike, as always, for this treasure.~ Warren
12/26/84 PROVIDENCE THE LIVING ROOM AUDIENCE 70:35
Track List:CD ONE: LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. CLICHE'. IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. TOO FAR GONE. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS. SONG OF THE VIKING. BEARSVILLE/HONEST WORK. LYSISTRADA. TINY DEMONS. LORD CHANCELLOR'S NIGHTMARE SONG. BAD LADY. DRUNKEN BLUE ROOSTER. I'M SO PROUD/OOH BABY BABY/LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU/I SAW THE LIGHT. ONE WORLD.THE WHEEL. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. BONUS: BANG ON THE DRUM ALL DAY (from this audience tape but unbearable to listen to. You don't want this bonus~ Warren)
Note:A pretty clean audience tape from the rarely talked about 1984 Winter tour. We edited out the TEPTAE video excerpts, and the way too noisy Bang On The Drum and get one CD of the ever evolving 1984 thing. Drunken Blue Rooster and Bag Lady make this nice and the pre-released Honest Work. You can hear Todd rail against Albert's label. Probably due to the lack of release to date of A Cappella.~ Warren

Excerpts from The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect video would be show throught the evening as well. He makes some mistakes during Too Far Gone. But what a great set.
