Largest Collection On The Globe of Todd Rundgren Audio Rarities

Greetings Audio Toddheads! Warren H. (Atlanta, GA. USA) here. Tony Rogers and I have transferred our entire audio collections over to my home in 2008. We (Tony & I) thought my circumstances (A 62 year old, single, IT specialist/Audio Editor guy in Atlanta with lots of Todd Rundgren history/archival collecting since 1972) would be ideal for taking over the 'Library' in all its glory. And, so an 'incorporation' of his and my colossal collections takes place! I now curate this ‘museum’. And I plan to share much of this, just as Tony did all these decades. And yes, I’m somewhat of a Todd Rundgren Historian. I have been 'following' Todd extensively (in all forms of media) ever since I saw (and met) him here at an Historic Show at Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theatre on November 8 1973. So I know 'enough'. Please note that I say share my enthusiasm. No buying or selling. Nor will a penny exchange hands. Never.
I want to say a big THANK YOU in advance to all of you who are going to help and have helped with this so far. I’ll do my best. Write me anytime. twarrenh@gmail.com
Just scroll down to the items listed below by period and click on any year to browse the collection.
We've also recently been working in collaboration with my friend Frank Bubnick and his well known vast quality collection (you can visit his list by clicking on his name). Some of his editing is unequaled anywhere.
And some late breaking neat news : I believe most of you are familiar with the JEMS group. A bunch of super collectors for many bands’ audience recordings (predominate though are Yes and Springsteen). Well known for their re-mastering prowess and quality. They’ve been in contact with me for a couple of years, and in December of last year offered me all their (originals) Todd Rundgren Collection. They just didn’t have the resources or the time for refining anything by Todd Rundgren. It just wasn’t on their timeline. I received all their cassettes (60) within a few weeks! Most of them are MASTER tapes from the original Taper. They will be sending me all their DATs and Reels at a later date. I will be listing all these recordings here, as I digitally transfer them. With this addition of the JEMS collection I believe these Todd Rundgren Archives are easily the largest collection on the planet.
How do we share you ask? Well, Just for what it's worth, we really don't do the 'snail mail trading' (by postal) much these days. So, if you would like me to share or trade any of this 'Catalog' with you, it would be more convenient/easiest to share in the form of on-line file transfer. Generally, in .flac format, compressed to .zip or .rar for smoother/faster quality exchange [depending upon the size of the audio file(s) we might be exchanging of course]. Hope that all makes sense. I can work with you on 'all that'. Again, write me, and then we'll come to an agreement of sorts. Please keep in mind, that anything that is 'Official', or 'Professionally Marketed', or still available for 'Retail' purchase is not of consideration. Nor is there any monetary means of transaction.
I do not have any rights to, and I am not open for sharing any material that may be listed below that has been commercially or officially released and is still available retail. (It may be listed below for collection listing purpose only). I do not take or give any money for a single item below either. I do not take away any proceeds that are due to Todd Rundgren, family, friends, business or supporting/associated musicians. If it is ROIO (recording of independent origin), then I'm open to share. Support the artist! Go buy his stuff where and whenever available! Speaking of which; an ultimate place to find/buy Todd's releases and imports & rarities is TRBAZAAR. Check it out! If Scott ain't got it, nobody does...just about! And of course many past official CD/DVD releases and proprietary Todd merchandise is readily available for ordering on-line at The Toddstore. So check them out for sure.
I like to give credit where credit is due too. So please forgive me if I do not credit the right persons involved in making these recordings available/possible for all these years.
I’ll start a ‘Credits’ list here below, and maintain it on down the road. Like to make sure all the folks involved are appreciated. For now, let me go ahead and thank some folks that have really been instrumental in these archives (no particular order): Tony Rogers (of course), Mike Armes, Jeff Gauss 'Weavil' (RIP), Frank Bubnick, Paul Russo, Hiroshi Kawauchi, Istvan Berzenczei, Sara Kritzer, Barry Beiseigel, Marc Linowitz, Rob 'Lockjaw' Levangie, Roger Steel, Mike Adrian, Gil Ireland-Ashley, Jim Farrell, Dale Michelsohn, Gary Urwin, Don B., Bob Stanislowski (RIP), Micheal B., Jon Risen, Jon Babcock, Mark Wilpolt, Tom Cannon, Lin Sprague, Joe Franks, Chris 'Razz', Geoff (& Rick) Laurenzo, Ted Moon, Richard Roys, Storm Hunter, Moz (Mike), Sohta Fujito, David Skye, Allen Law, Matt Walsh, Kevin Lewis, Doug Ford, Dave Knife, JEMS, Jared Houser, Gene Poole, 'Elegymart', Gail Artsgard, Victor Baissait, Connor Payne and players to be named later. Special thanks to Roger Linder for providing this page space for us for decades. Let's Rock!
BTW, I call this group of people 'My Cartel'. However, I have given the group a Media name: F451 Media (as in 451 Farenheit). It is not a brand name, for nothing of mine is for sale or has been sold EVER. It is a logo for these dedicated Todd Rundgren Collectors , which most of been doing this since the early 90s (and even earler). Our logo is:

3/9/83 'ROCK N ROLL TONITE' (TV) PERKINS PLACE PASADINA CA VIDEO SOUNDTRACK 18:00
Date Added:10/13/2015
Track List: CHANT.COMPASSION. BANG ON THE DRUM.BAG LADY.ONE WORLD.
Note:Some very good HD captures of each individual tune have surfaced on YouTube. And these are the audio grabs from the films. Strange selection of songs to perform, with the exception of 'Bang On The Drum', which was a chart topper at that time. But to start of a rare TV 'featured' appearance with 'Chant' was strange. Now, ending the show with 'One World' was great! We really don't have much here in the archives for 1983, so these few tunes are a welcome addition, for the sound quality is very good.~ Warren
4/2/83 'ROCK N ROLL TONITE' (TV) PERKINS PALACE PASADINA CA VIDEO SOUNDTRACK (AND FM BROADCAST KLOS-FM) 18 Mins
Date Added:8/6/2019
Track List:CHANT.COMPASSION. BANG ON THE DRUM.BAG LADY.ONE WORLD.
Note:Some very good HD captures of each individual tune have surfaced on the Web, and these are the audio grabs from the films. Strange selection of songs to perform, with the exception of 'Bang On The Drum', which was a chart topper at that time. But to start of a rare TV 'featured' appearance with 'Chant' was strange. Now, ending the show with 'One World' was great! Todd was backed by Mike Finnigan & the Right Band ("members too numerable to mention") and accompanied by vocalists Flo & Eddie (Mark Volman & Howard Kaylan) and Karla Devito. These few captures are a welcome addition, for the sound quality is very good and the KLOS FM Version is truncated before and after tunes. Thank you to Gil Ireland-Ashley for his FM Master!~ Warren
4/23/83 KENAN STADIUM CHAPEL HILL NC AUDIENCE FROM SARA (PAUL RUSSO EDIT) 77:00
Date Added:12/4/2002
Track List:LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. CLCIHE. IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. TOO FAR GONE. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS. SONG OF THE VIKING. COMPASSION. LYSISTRADA. TINY DEMONS. LORD CHANCELLOR'S NIGHTMARE SONG. BAD LADY. DRUNKEN BLUE ROOSTER. BANG THE DRUM ALL DAY. IM SO PROUD/OOH BABY BABY/LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU. I SAW THE LIGHT. ONE WORLD. THE WHEEL
Note:Tweeked by Paul russo...the sound is decent for an audience, but contains a good dose of yap. The show is a standard Todd solo set - decent sound - not a lot of low end but it was 1983. Paul seems to have eqd this nicely to get the most out of it.~ Tony
7/17/83 UTOPIA ALPINE VALLEY TROY WI AUDIENCE 1:26:34
Date Added:9/22/2013
Track List:HAMMER IN MY HEART.SET ME FREE.PRINCESS OF THE UNIVERSE.BURN THREE TIMES.REAL MAN.SWING TO THE RIGHT.THE VERY LAST TIME.BANG ON THE DRUM ALL DAY.COMMUNION WITH THE SUN (CUTS OUT AFTER 1:10).(CUTS IN) THE SEVEN RAYS/SINGRING & THE GLASS GUITAR/INITIATION/THE ROAD TO UTOPIA/CARAVAN/LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS.TIME HEALS.ONE WORLD (WITH RICK NIELSEN OF CHEAP TRICK).JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note:By happenstance I found this in amongst the 1000+ cassette tape archive here. This audience tape is definetly a lost & found. We don't have much from 1983 for Utopia. I basically just transferred it from the cassette tape 'as is'(no EQ). And split the tracks. The sound is very good for this age old recording. It was a great performance and great set. Of course there are a few spikes, drops and cut ins and outs and level changes. But it is a very good audience recording by a fan 30 years ago. It's pretty much the whole show. Again, we get to hear the great medley they were doing in 1983 of: "Communion With TheSun/The Seven Rays/Singring and the Glass Guitar/Initiation/The Road To Utopia/Caravan/Last of the New Wave Riders". Rick Nielsen makes a guest appearance on "One World" too! This is ESSENTIAL.~ Warren
8/8/83 UTOPIA PIER 84 NEW YORK AUDIENCE (HIROSHI KAWAUCHI EDIT) N/A
Date Added:7/3/2012
Track List:CD ONE: HAMMER IN MY HEART. SET ME FREE. PRINCESS OF THE UNIVERSE. REAL MAN. SWING TO THE RIGHT. I'M LOOKING AT YOU BUT I'M TALKING TO MYSELF. YOU MAKE ME CRAZY. CALL IT WHAT YOU WILL. THE VERY LAST TIME. BANG ON THE DRUM. CD TWO:OVERTURE/ COMMUNION WITH THE SUN/ THE IKON/THE SEVEN RAYS/ SINGRING & THE GLASS GUITAR/ROAD TO UTOPIA/CARAVAN/ LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS.ONE WORLD. JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note:A decent audience recording that our buddy Hiroshi made excellent. You still hear typical audience yap for New York. It's just that we have so little of 1983 represented (Soundboard or Audience Tape), this needs it's spot in the Archives. Incredible set too. Overture/ Communion With Sun, all the way through Last of The New Wave Riders, is basically one big tune/medley (seven songs).ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL! Thank you Hiroshi!~ Warren
8/8/83 UTOPIA PIER 84 NEW YORK AUDIENCE/SECOND SOURCE (‘JULSAY’ TRADERS DEN) 49:00/46:00
Date Added:11/23/2019
Track List:DISC ONE: HAMMER IN MY HEART. SET ME FREE. PRINCESS OF THE UNIVERSE. REAL MAN. SWING TO THE RIGHT. I'M LOOKING AT YOU BUT I'M TALKING TO MYSELF. YOU MAKE ME CRAZY. CALL IT WHAT YOU WILL. THE VERY LAST TIME. BANG ON THE DRUM. DISC TWO:OVERTURE/ COMMUNION WITH THE SUN/ THE IKON/THE SEVEN RAYS/ SINGRING & THE GLASS GUITAR/ROAD TO UTOPIA/CARAVAN/ LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS.ONE WORLD. JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note:Incredible Second Source of this Show has surfaced. Only editing needed was; I thought I would bring the highlights out front a smudge...And edited gaps. Now, with exception to minimal crowd noise, you would think this was a Soundboard! A remarkable listen. We know from 'Julsay' that the recorder was dead center - 10 rows back. You could put on some headphones and that's where you'll be. This is that good people!
Of course, it includes the 8 long tune 35:36 Min. Medley beginning Disc Two, that is so very rare: 'Communion With the Sun'/'The Ikon'/'The Seven Rays'/ 'Singring'/'Initiation'/'Road To Utopia'/'Caravan' and 'Last of the New Wave Riders'! This Source also includes 'Princess of the Universe', which the other Source did not! An incredible performance by the band! THIS SHOW IS ESSENTIAL and a ‘Trophy’ and you will love it. Thank you 'Julsay'!!~ Warren

Track List:CD ONE: LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. CLICHE. IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. TOO FAR GONE. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS. SONG OF THE VIKING. MAYBE I COULD CHANGE. LYSISTRADA. TINY DEMONS. LORD CHANCELLOR'S NIGHTMARE SONG. BAG LADY. DRUNKEN BLUE ROOSTER. BANG OF THE DRUM ALL DAY. CD TWO: IM SO PROUD/OOH BABY BABY/LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU/I SAW THE LIGHT. ONE WORLD. THE WHEEL. BONUS TRACK: 12/9/83 TULSA OK CAINES BALLROOM - IF DIDN'T TRY (SOLO PIANO PRE-RELEASE VERSION).
Note:This Weavil upgrade leaves us stunned - it is such a dramatic improvement over the older versions. The clarity and processing and speed correction puts this in a new category. Finally the Midwest jaunt of 1983 is proudly represented. It contains two of the most spine chilling goose bump moments; That is the solo piano version of Maybe I Could Change...its otherworldy...at the end Todd sings " ...We can change the world..." The delicate touch but powerful tour de force...it smokes...leaves in the dust the studio version...it is that special. The other is the slightly less quality, but still hair raising, solo paino version of If I Didnt Try from Tulsa Caines 8 days later. This was pre-Oblivion. We really cant tell you enough how we needed this new Weavil creation, and how much ALL of you need it, too. A major gap in the canyon has been filled by Jeff...wow. ESSENTIAL~ Warren
12/6/83 (SOLO) UPTOWN THEATER KANSAS CITY MO AUDIENCE (GEOFF LAURENZO) MASTER 71:00

Track List:LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.CLICHÉ. IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE.TOO FAR GONE.CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS.INTRO & CLIP FROM TEPTAE VIDEO.SONG OF THE VIKING.IF I DIDN'T TRY.LYSISTRATA.TINY DEMONS.BAG LADY.DRUNKEN BLUE ROOSTER.BANG ON THE DRUM.SOUL MEDLEY (I'M SO PROUD/OOH BABY BABY/LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU/ I SAW THE LIGHT).ONE WORLD.THE WHEEL.A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.
Note:Another stellar audience recording (MASTER) from ‘The Ever Popular Tortured Taper’ Geoff Laurenzo. This time its Todd solo 1983. And the set very similar to Todd’s 1982 solo shows (with the exception of one video he shows as opposed to two. We get a piece of audio from the TEPTAE video.) Having said that, you might want to skip that track 06. Not much listening pleasure there. However this recording of Geoff’s puts you right in the front row center and it's almost like the PA System is right in my headphones (if you use those for this kind of stuff). It’s first-rate! Instruments and vocals right up front acoustics-wise. AND we get a great early rendition of ' If I Didn't Try'!! I won’t critique the whole thing, but Todd is flawless here. This an ESSENTIAL recording for your 70s- 80s Trophy shelf. And there’s not enough Thank Yous for Geoff for providing his MASTER of this. ~ Warren

Track List:LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.CLICHÉ. IT WOULDN’T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. TOO FAR GONE. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS.COMPASSION (CUTS RIGHT IN AND I THINK THIS WAS A VIDEO HE PRESENTED).SONG OF THE VIKING. IF I DIDN'T TRY.INTRO TO LYSISTRATA. LYSISTRATA.TINY DEMONS.LORD CHANCELLOR'S NIGHTMARE SONG.BAG LADY.INTRO TO BLUE ROOSTER.DRUNKEN BLUE ROOSTER.BANG OF THE DRUM ALL DAY.LPS WORTH OF TOONS (THE AUDIO FROM A VIDEO HE PRESENTED).I’M SO PROUD/OOH BABY BABY/LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU/I SAW THE LIGHT.ONE WORLD. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.THE WHEEL.
Note:This is either a copy from the sound monitor board, or very very good audience recording. And the tape that it originally transferred from, reads: "1st copy from the Master Tape". I wish I knew who it originated from (Taper), so I could give them credit.I had sent this show to Istvan to see if he had time to split the tracks for me (It was just two big tracks). And not only did he split the tracks, he also did some 'beautification'.
Todd is pretty much flawless here, and Tulsa got one helluva good show. Again, we get and early performance of 'If I didn't Try' too! Same set list as most his solo 1982 and 1983 shows, but with some additional numbers. ESSENTIAL.~ Warren
12/11/83 (SOLO) CARDI'S AUSTIN TX AUDIENCE RECORDING COURTESY OF GIL IRELAND-ASHLEY N/A

(CUTS RIGHT IN) MAYBE I COULD CHANGE - BUT WE GET THE ENTIRE RARE PERFORMANCE OF IT!.INTRO/LYSISTRATA.INTO/TINY DEMONS.(CUTS IN) LORD CHANCELLOR'S NIGHTMARE SONG.BAG LADY.DRUNKEN BLUE ROOSTER.BANG OF THE DRUM ALL DAY.MORE EPTAE VIDEO.SOUL MEDLEY (I’M SO PROUD/OOH BABY BABY/LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU & I SAW THE LIGHT).ONE WORLD/ENCORE APPLAUSE.THE WHEEL. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.
Note:Gil is transferring to digital some tapes/shows for me that aren't in the Archives here. And this too is an Excellent Audience Recording, with the exception of yap near the taper. I did a little of bringing the highlights up front. Unfortunately, when I do that; it highlights the chatter next to the taper as well. And The Video Tracks are not worth listening to, for the recorder did not pick them up as clearly as Todd’s actual performance. A couple of places where the audience applause is 'cut’ too (not real noticeable).Typical December 1983 Solo set. But Todd's performance is stellar and a lot of fun. ~ Warren

Note:Gil is transferring to digital some tapes/shows for me that aren't in the Archives here. However, this Audience Recording sounds ‘Distant Concert Hall-ish’, so I left ‘as is’; two big raw tape transfer WAV tracks (Side A & Side B).Will split them some other day.And I can’t improve it. It ‘is what it is’. The Video Portions are not worth listening to, for the recorder did not pick them up clearly. They’re rough. Typical December 1983 Solo set. But Todd's performance is stellar and a lot of fun. Very listenable and RARE! Thank you Gil!~ Warren
