Note:This is one that Paul and Frank did in '99. And is a good strong rep of the first solo tour. Bonus tracks are from the '82 unknown soundboard soundcheck of Todd playing piano and warming up for another evenings show. We think this tape may have been originally recorded by Mark Wilpolt. When I Pray, the Soul Medley and Love Is The Answer are from the 1/6/82 San Francisco show later in the week.

Note:This extra long single CD-R was recorded by Mark Wilpolt and he gets a good audience sound. There are some small short probs with this, but it is worth it as Todd plays (on 6th) his debut piano solo performance of Love Is The Answer. Tiny Demons is nice and spacey. Good deal of talk and hecklers but not enough to be a distraction.~ Tony

Note:Another beauty from my JEMS Collection. Jared's (RIP) MASTER audience recording. All I did was the digital transfer and split the tracks. I thought it so good that I didn't edit in any way. Soooooo...if you get this, all you audiophiles with your spectragrams and graphic bar arrays... don't bother. Because there's lots of mini-spikes and mini-drops and all kinds of other 'bee heedy bops'. If you want to check the quality of this, then put some head phones on and sit in the front row of Royal Oak Theatre! It's up there and in your face. Almost soundboard quality. Same setlist as all his 1982 Solo shows. A couple of songs he 'oopses', then almost restarts, but keeps on going (Love of the Common Man for example)! By the way, I omitted the usual Time heals Video because it was all chopped up and distorted. But anyway this another 1982 Solo show is fun with different twists to his introduction to tunes and this Baby is ESSENTIAL. ~ Warren

Note:This is one of Frank Bubnick's collection which was edited enhanced and prepared by Paul Russo. The first two episodes were edited broadcasts from two difference recordings which comprised two sections of Todd King Biscuit Flower Hour shows. These were later put together to make one program. 'Party in the Park' is missing only a tune or so from its 25 minute broadcast and is notable for the premiere of One World, which was played here a month or two before its appearance on the Ian Hunter/ Todd show. Todd sings, "we're just waiting for the sky to drop dead on the floor..." A fine job on three classic period pieces that were KBFH broadcasts.~ Tony

Note:The infamous '82 broadcast of the Kasim Sultan Band after he left Utopia (temporaily). Most tunes hail from his EMI release and some Utopia tunes in there. In our opinion, this was his best solo venture of the bunch, and it is truly a shame that EMI pulled the rug from under him after all this hard work. It may not be Todd Rundgren or Utopia but it was a strong pop album. And this set shows potential. Excellent quality.~ Warren

Note:This is a beautiful piece (audience recording) by Geoff Laurenzo (from his MASTER Tapes of course). Its puts you right there in his seat j11. Now, I may have missed some 'drop outs' and I don't think so, for there were many. But all in all, I didn't do much to this one except even out the levels. And some little fixes. There are some spikes here and there, but I decided not to mess with too many of those. Two Video tape presentations here that Todd did where does not perform/sing: An 'Unknown Title' Instrumental and 'Time Heals'. The Time Heals recording was unfortunately very distorted so I inserted the studio version (from Jeff Gauss's 'Weavil' 'first needle drop' from his virgin copy vinyl of 'Healing') with the intro and outro left in there. This is some pretty good stuff here. By this time, Todd was very much 'into' being in Utopia. Some of these solo shows were insisted by Bearsville, which they did not promote very well, and this did nothing for the sales of any of Todd's solo albums. Thus the small halls. The UK loved the solo shows, but in the US, not so much. However, listen to the fans at this show. THEY ARE EXCITED. Again thank you Geoff for this ESSENTIAL recording for our collections. For it's a good one. And it's available nowhere but here! !~ Warren

Note:Just got around to transferring this age old cassette tape to digital. I believe this is from a simulcast from a local Columbus Station, but it is a very mono recording. It’s not great phonics, but very much a keeper for archiving sakes. The audience goes wild during the performance. Sounds like The Beatles are in the house! Of course Cleveland and Columbus love their Todd Rundgren concerts. Still do to this day. If you liked the 1982 solo shows/tour then this one would not disappoint you. Very entertaining and lots of fun (all tunes). It was the same solo set throughout the year intermixed with a couple of video presentations during the performance (an ‘abstract’ video segment, shades of early Grokgazer and the Todd processed and produced promo video for ‘Time Heals’ which made it widely on MTV in those days). Pretty much all just Todd…acoustic guitar, ‘Fool’ Gibson and piano except the soul medley has the prerecorded instruments (from AWATS) background. All very much worthy for burning to CD for listening pleasures. ~ Warren

Note:Another wonderul audience recording by our ever faithful 'traveler' Geoff Laurenzo. Another of his MASTER tapes. Not much tweaking was done on this one, other than fixing 'levels' and repairing 'drop outs'. But again the second tape showed the blunt of 34 years, and I had to 'reshell' it. And it has a little bit of different quality to it...you can notice....it begins with 'When I Pray'. For the most part this recording has a 'concert hall' sound/acoustics to it. And Todd's usual long banter between many of the tunes is hard to understand...for some reason he 'races' through it too. And the crowd noise is very prominent here. Todd mentions early that this is the second set of the night. And Geoff tells us that it was a packed house for the second show, and that it was pretty much just standing room. He couldn't get tickets for the first show. And I believe the first show was the one that was broadcast video locally in Ohio. Todd's two video presentatations (with audio tapes) leave much to be desired (Tracks 06 & 14), but otherwise, this a very good recording ~ Warren

Note:A new rare share from a new friend in England. Dale Michelsohn (Who just happened to be a former stage technician at the Odeon Theatre Birmingham UK. And He worked on that first TR & Utopia gig Odeon 10/02/75!) recorded this audience tape. An excellent recording. Sounds like it was recorded yesterday. And so many yesterdays ago this show took place. Todd nails this performance, as he did this entire Solo UK Tour. Just a few highlights: You will laugh at his humorous interaction with the Birmingham crowd. He pokes at the Prime Minister & The US Government to his intro of 'Too Far Gone'. His Lysistrata story has a funnier twist to it. And the performance of Lysistrata is very energetic. He introduces his Video ideas to the crowd (accompanied with 'abstract audio'). His solo piano with 'Drunken Blue Rooster' is flawless. He says, 'Roger Powell says my piano playing is like a baby ant eater'. "When I Pray' is very fun with audience3 part participation. Again he shows video to the crowd with "Time Heals'. The 'Soul Medley' is performed with background tape. But the body of this show is just Todd, acoustic guitar (except ‘Tiny Demons’ is with The Fool/Gibson) and piano. ESSENTIAL. Add this to the rest of the UK 1982 Solo Tour that you have! Note:Here it is. Very much of the whole set from May 24th early show. A very good yet an audience recording this time. Very close to sounding like soundboard. Todd entertains the Brits with his wit throughout and in between tunes. Especially entertaining is his story about Lysistrata and Ancient Greece (which he also did in Detroit with Utopia that year - 1982). All tunes are treat, including surprises like 'Drunken Blue Rooster' and 'When I Pray'. Unfortunately missing are the last two tunes 'I saw The Light' and 'Hello It's Me'.~ Warren

Apparently he was aired live both nights (4 sets) there. This is a digital transfer to CD that I've done from a crystal clean low generation cassette recording of the broadcast late May 1982.Similiar setlists for both nights, but notice the different additions in this one. This is ESSENTIAL. It's so fantastic to have such a record of history with these three sets (out of four performed).~ Warren

Note:Listed here only for collection list purposes, for now the BBC video of this has been officially & magnificently re-produced and released by Esoteric Recordings (ELEC 42469). You will not be dissapointed if you buy this one (of course the Boxset comes a long with much much more and it's well worth 'the pass' to it. So please buy it). However, what I do list here is Jim Paige's own complete audio recording of the show which he grabbed off his TV/FM radio simulcast in the UK. Todd's performance is stellar and he has much enjoyment interacting between tunes with the London crowd. To listen to the 'Time Heals' audio of the video is a little boring, but Todd 'unplugged'in 1982 was far better than even his solo stuff he was doing in the (early) 2000s.'Tiny Demons' is particularly excellent here.I'm thinking that BBC knows that this was one of the best 'Old Grey Whistle Test(s)'ever. Thus the recent release.~ Warren

Here is a summer time 'Suits Tour' from Tom Cannon and tweeked by Paul Russo. The pace of the tour really brings this show to life. There is some yap, but not too bad- sound is decent. This is from the Friday night before the Thanksgiving broadcast from the Country Club, and I assume they spent the following days in preproduction for the broadcast. It's an audience recording, and only a single tape's worth so it runs out a few seconds into One World and is missing LITA and JOV. My tape is a 1st gen cassette direct from the taper's master, since lost, so this is as good as we're gonna get. I did a raw transfer, took the .wav into audacity to break it into tracks and do some pitch correction. It's a decent aud recording, nothing spectacular but definitely listenable.” Thank you for this one Gil!~ Warren

Note:Both dates culled from Soundboard recordings made available to us from Frank Bubnick through someone we only know as ‘The Dragon’ (whom we’ve we lost contact with decades ago). This whole thing about two shows ‘complete & then some’ is very interesting to me. For I listened and recorded live the FM radio Broadcast on Thanksgiving night as I also watched the simulcast too. I had no earthly idea that there were two shows (and recorded) for decades. And these soundboard recordings are magnificent. They are truly trophies for me as a Todd superfan and historian. We’re very fortunate. Utopia is damn near flawless here.~ Warren *Special thanks to Istvan for splitting and editing the tracks for the 11/25/82 stuff!
