Todd Rundgren/UTOPIA (and Related) Audio on CD-R ______ v05.2013

Greetings Audio Toddheads! Warren Hewetson (Atlanta, GA. USA) here. As most of you probably have already gathered; Tony Rogers and I have transferred all his audio collection over to my home in April of 2012. I don't speak for Tony, but in/around 2008, he had some exceptional changes in his family, business/practice, musicianship & life's interests. It somewhat prohibited his 'curatorship' of this vast historical collection of obscurities, rarities & Toddities. Me having been a long time friend, and somewhat of a 'side kick' collector/enthusiast; We (Tony & I) thought my 'sitrep' (58, single, IT guy in Atlanta with lots of TR history/archival collecting since 1973) would be ideal for taking over the 'Library' in all its glory. I plan to share openly, just as Tony did all these decades. Am I an authority? Hell no. But been following Todd in all forms of media ever since I saw/met him here at the Atlanta Fox Nov. 8 1973. So I know a little bit. I want to say a big THANK YOU in advance to all of you who are going to help and have helped with this so far. I’ll do my best. Write me anytime. twarrenh@bellsouth.net
Having said all that, I'll be making changes to some of Tony's descriptions here as a form of update. I like to give credit where credit is due too. So please forgive me if I do not credit the right persons involved in making these recordings available/possible. Feel free to correct me on who's responsible for what, but do not ask me to change artist information, line-ups, set-lists, venues and or dates. In addition, most of the Tubes related media will not be included in the collection. And from around 2008 and beyond; the library here is not covered too extensively. My partner in crime~ Jeff Gauss (Weavil) has offered to help me out with much of that. Visit: Weavil's Toddlist. With Jeff's help, this is arguably one of the (if not THE) largest most extensive archival collections of Todd's rare audio on the planet.
I do not have any rights to, and I am not open for sharing any material that may be listed below that has been commercially or officially released and is still available retail. (It may be listed below for collection listing purpose only). I do not take or give any money for a single item below either. I do not take away any proceeds that are due to Todd Rundgren, family, friends, business or supporting/associated musicians. If it is ROIO (recording of independent origin),then I'm open to share. Support the artist! Go buy his stuff where and whenever available! Speaking of which; the ultimate place to find/buy Todd's releases and imports & rarities is TRBAZAAR. Check it out ! If Scott ain't got it it, nobody does...just about!
I give Tony a ton of applause for his relentless cause of collecting this stuff from around the globe. You can write him at the TRconnection Forum and thank him too. We've also recently been working in collaboration with my friend Frank Bubnick and his well known vast quality collection (you can visit his list by clicking on his name). WOW! Maybe I can do a "Credits" list here below, on down the road. Like to make sure all the folks involved are appreciated. For now, let me go ahead and thank some folks that have really been intrumental in these archives (no particular order): Tony Rogers (of course), Jeff Gauss (Weavil), Frank Bubnick, Paul Russo, Hiroshi Kawauchi, Istvan, Roger Steel, Mike Adrian, Gil Ireland-Ashley, Gary Urwin, Don B., Bob Stanislowski (RIP), Micheal B., Jon Risen, Jon Babcock, Mark Wilpolt, Tom Cannon, Joe Franks, Richard Roys, Storm Hunter, Sara K., Moz, and players to be named later. Special thanks to Roger Linder for providing this page space for decades. Let's Rock!

Note:The entire old KBFH LP (including commercials) transferred with great results. Some very slight surface noise, but a great high volume transfer. This show was also filmed for the 'Camoflauge' video "Utopia Live At The Royal Oak". A classic. Sound is good. And the film's audio missing pieces are included here too. Ya gotta love the pre-intro story to Lysistrata... priceless. The DVD is available through Scott at TRBAZAAR . A good buy~ Tony & Warren

4/15/81 ALFRED INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ROCHESTER (ALFRED) NY OLD BOARD TAPE REMASTERED IN TWO DIFFERENT FASHIONS (HIROSHI KAWAUCHI & JOE FRANKS) 64:51/40:02

Track List:CD ONE:ONE WORLD (FADES IN). ROAD TO UTOPIA. BACK ON THE STREET. CARAVAN. TIME HEALS. CRAZY LADY BLUE. THE UP. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. LAST DOLLAR ON EARTH. THE WHEEL. THE VERY LAST TIME. JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note:Hiroshi & Joe have done wonders with this always intriguing, but frustrating, soundboard that we've had for years – volume changes warble the first three tunes and hiss had plagued this but, it has been given new life by these two seperate treatments. So I take the best of the two tweeks and it makes for one fine recording (except the opener,One World, which I think was hopeless to repair). Eye witness evidence points to this date being in April of 1981.

Notes: This show was one of the premeire coast to coast broadcasts that this great band did - this was while the 'Swing To The Right' album was being held up for contract negotiations (eventually involving Todd as well). The next product would see a label change. This show revealed that despite how low on the priority Utopia was worth Bearsville, the tunes held up well... and the band still kicked ass live as this attests to. They performed to a small house too. Well known harcore Todd Fan/ex-Todd Roadie/our Pal/guitarist Joe Megna was there! It was broadcast/hosted by WAAF 107.3 FM Worchester, yet Warren recorded it as it was fed live that night on his 96Rock FM Atlanta.~ Tony

Track List:CD ONE: ONE WORLD. ROAD TO UTOPIA. SWING TO THE RIGHT. LAST DOLLAR ON EARTH. SET ME FREE. ONLY HUMAN. ROCK LOVE. THE UP. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. COMSAT RAP/CLICHE'. ALWAYS LATE. THE VERY LAST TIME. JOKE/LYSISTRADA RAP. LYSISTRADA. BACK ON THE STREET CD TWO: CRAZY LADY BLUE. TIME HEALS. HEALER. I SAW THE LIGHT. CARAVAN. LOVE IN ACTION. LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. LOVE IS THE ANSWER. JUST ONE VICTORY
Note:This is a strange recording that turned out to be a hidden flower once the low end was rolled off the tape. The bass does distort, but there is amazing clarity in this old great audience recording. Strange up until Lowest Common Denominator- then the set really kicks into gear by Disc 2. Highlights: Crazy Lady Blue, Healer, Caravan, New Wave Riders, Last Dollar...just a nice, nice overlooked recording from this pre-Swing tour.

LYSISTRATA. BACK ON THE STREET. CRAZY LADY BLUE. TIME HEALS. HEALER (SPLICED). I SAW THE LIGHT. CARAVAN. LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. LOVE IS THE ANSWER. JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note:Another one cleaned up by Hiroshi. This show has a great setlist - pre-release Swing To The Right, but all of 'em are there...The band was hot as hell then, and hear how slow they play Caravan...cool angle. We also get a never before heard REO Speedwagon razzing before Cliche... "They're imitating, making fun of us..." Todd actually sings some of "...Heard it from a friend who..." A Fun fun fun show..awsome for the/us collectors~ Warren

Note:Magnificent clean up job from Hiroshi...these shows were the blueprint for all subsequent shows...very interesting...the piano songs have barely changed in 25 yrs. There is some yap here, but again we wouldnt have thought this to be able to be this clean...~ Warren
12/13/81 NORTHSTAGE DINNER THEATER GLEN COVE NY AUDIENCE - MIKE ADRIAN/PAUL RUSSO EQ & TRANSFER 63:53/47:06
Date Added:3/12/2003
Track List:CD ONE: LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. CLICHE'. IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. TOO FAR GONE. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS. TOMITA VIDEO. SONG OF THE VIKING. LYSISTRADA. TINY DEMONS. LORD CHANCELLORS NIGHTMARE SONG. BAG LADY. DRUNKEN BLUE ROOSTER. BREAD CD TWO: TIME HEALS VIDEO. IM SO PROUD/OOH BABY BABY/LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU/I SAW THE LIGHT. ONE WORLD.
Note:There are better recordings from this tour. Sounds like the hall had lots of reverb, plus the yap, makes this an just an 'OK' audience recording. And we can always use more from this very first solo (w/o band) Todd tour of all time...His performance is pretty good here.~ Warren
