TODD/UTOPIA AND RELATED ARTISTS ON CD-R

THIS IS A REFERENCE PLACE FOR BOOTLEG STUFF I HAD PRIOR TO 2008 ARENA TOUR. I AM NO LONGER COLLECTING/TRADING THIS STUFF IN ANY WAY AND THESE PAGES ARE NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF SAME. THANK YOU TO ALL OF THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTED A LOT OF EFFORT TOWARDS THIS SCENE. IF YOU LOOK HARD ENOUGH, YOU WILL FIND SOMEWHERE WHERE THIS IS GOING ON STILL-THERE ARE STILL THEIVES AND CRIMINALS AMONG US! WATCH OUT...IM HALF-JOKING, OF COURSE
FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW, ALL TODD, UTOPIA AND NAZZ ARE BANNED FROM DIME A DOZEN. THERE IS A LETTER FROM ATTORNEYS REPRESENTING TODD THREATENING LEGAL ACTION FOR ANY SUCH CONTENT. YOU CAN SEE IT AT THE SITE. I AM UNSURE ABOUT ANY OTHER PIER TO PIER PLACE WHERE THIS IS HAPPENING. ITS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE THERE...AT THE REQUEST OF THE ARTIST (AS THE LETTER STATES). AT THIS POINT, I NEED NO MORE INFORMATION OR CLUES TO SOLVE MY PUZZLE, SO TO SPEAK. ITS AMAZING HOW HARD HEADED YOU CAN GET ABOUT STUFF SOMETIMES. ITS MY TIME TO GET OUT.
IF YOU ARE AS BEWILDERED/PUZZLED BY THIS MOVE AS I AM, TAKE COMFORT TO KNOW THAT MOST MODERN ARTISTS (WELL ABOVE 80%) WOULD LOVE YOU TO CARE ENOUGH TO TAPE/BOOTLEG THEIR MUSIC. MOST NEW BANDS KNOW THE VALUE. ITS ONLY WHEN YOU SET THINGS UP BACK TO BACK AND GET THE DIFFERENCE FROM NIGHT TO NIGHT THAT YOU "GET IT"-THOSE WHO KNOW KNOW THAT THIS IS WHERE THE REAL LIFE IS. UNLESS YOURE SELLING A PRODUCT LIKE BUBBLEGUM, ETC. (OR A TOP 40 ARTIST WHERE ONE SHOW IS THE SAME TAPE EACH NIGHT) MOST OF MY FAVORITE ARTISTS ARE INTO COMMUNICATION, NOT SO MUCH DICTATION IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN. THEY ARE COMFORTABLE WITH ALL ASPECTS OF THINGS. WHATVER HAPPENED (MONEY PROBABLY) TO LOSE THIS HERE, THERES ALWAYS OTHER SCENES INTO IT. IVE HEARD THEY ARE DOING WEBCASTS AND CHARGING FOR AWATS 09..FUCKING FINALLY THE LIGHT GOES OFF!!...I DONT KNOW BUT IT WAS PROBABLY DOUGS IDEA..THANK GOD FOR DOUG FORD-YOU SHOULD ALL KISS HIS FEET FOR ALL HE'S DONE..I MEAN THAT SINCERELY
BEFORE YOU EMAIL ME ABOUT IT, I AM SORRY BUT I AM NO LONGER ABLE TO COPY ANYTHING FOR ANY REASON AND I DO NOT WANT ANYTHING NOT ON THE LIST FOR THE SAME REASONS. I AM NOT CONTINUING THIS ON THE SLY OR ANYTHING..I AM SINCERELY DONE-ONE DAY MAYBE ILL GET MY SHIT TOGETHER AND AUCTION OFF MY COLLECTION FOR CHARITY OR SOMETHING...AND IF THERES ANYONE OUT THERE WHO WANTS TO WORK A BIT, I STILL HAVE HOURS OF TR VIDEO THAT HASNT SEEN THE MODERN LIGHT OF DAY IN VHS FORMAT-(DRYING UP AS WE SPEAK). IF SOMEONE REALLY WILL USE IT, ITS YOURS
THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS OF APPRECIATION. AGAIN, I THANK EVERYONE WHO WAS INVOLVED OR KNEW ME THROUGH THIS WHOLE SCENE. I HAD A LOT OF FUN.

1980 SHAWN CASSIDY- WASP LP SOURCE (TRANSFER BY T STORM HUNTER) 41:41
Date Added:3/25/2001
Track List:REBEL REBEL. COOL FIRE. THE BOOK I READ. PRETENDING. SHAKE ME, WAKE ME. ITS MY LIFE. SO SAD ABOUT US. WASP. SELFLESS LOVE. ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY
Note:again, let me know if it is officially avialable, this fab t storm transfer captures the utopia on a bunch of covers and tr songs. this odd pairing was an attempt for warner brothers to try to revive shawn's career out of the kiddie pop into a more rock sound. i remember being stunned at hearing todd involvement. he made some weird choices at this new height of utopia (80 adventures) popularity (this and deface w/i a few months?) i like the songs but i really think that at times the music sounds like synthy plastic rock and shawn really sounds strange at places. many believe this was an important work for todd and co. personally, i dont like it-i dont like much but the todd songs, the playing is similar to the perfomances on the froggy pumpkin sessions except for more synth and shawn just doesnt carry his weight on these covers. notice todd's choices on covers include tunes hes played before, very well done and for those who want to decide for yourself. t storm really did a great job on this-it sounds super.
1980 TUBES-SUFFER FOR SOUND (AKA THE BLACK ALBUM) TAPES FROM BOARD/TEST COPY (TRANSFERRED/ACQUIRED FROM SHUBABY) (THANKS- ROGER STEEL) 33:51
Date Added:8/23/2001
Track List:DRIVING ALL NIGHT. DREAMS COME TRUE. DANGEROUS. DONT ASK ME. HOLY WAR. RAT RACE. TRAIN OF PICTURES. DONT SLOW DOWN. SUFFER FOR SOUND. COLOR ME WILD..
Note:the legendary tape. I dont know much about this other than it was recorded for an album and did not come out. Sorry i dont know much about it, if anyone knows about this, please provide details of what was up. This is a studio album- cleaned up from tapes, some tape noise present but by far the cleanest version i've heard-my cassette i got years back had much more hiss. Please help on the details you tubesters........
1980 ST LOUIS KEIL AUDITORIUM KBFH-LPS (TRANSFERRED BY JON RISEN) 73:15
Date Added:11/5/2001
Track List:ROAD TO UTOPIA. BACK ON THE STREET. SHOT IN THE DARK. SET ME FREE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. CLICHE'. GANGRENE. BONUS TRACKS: 6/7/80 UTOPIA INTERVIEW WLIR LONG ISLAND. 3/18/80 CHICAGO WXRT INTERVIEW TODD AND WILLIE
Note:jon helps us out by doing a great transfer from lp of the old king biscuit show from 1980. I had long thought this was 79 due to the absence of the elctro drumkit but i think this was 1980 but not a section of the show where the kit was used. The show is edited for b-cast and a curious selection (ending up with gangrene..y'all ready to rock and roll..1,2,3,4....one day ill do a cd of willie's different variations of this that went on for years..................)-as for the bonus tracks, ny has just wanna touch you's debut-cant tell if its a different version than deface or not...movie talk, robbie dupree, band seems very satisfied-spectrum show cited..in chi-town, prgram content of the utopia tv show is somewhat revealed, early fascinating talk of the future of video in 1980-where tr pretty much envisions whats happening now all the way back then-strong sales of lp..whats most interesting is the rap about how much democracy existed then in utopia. Super.

Date Added:11/10/2002
Track List:TR PLATS FAVORITE TUNES OF THE ERA AND COMMENTS (LAURA NYRO, TALKING HEADS, PETER GABRIEL, KATE BUSH..ETC)
Note:this is pretty cool to have on cds..if you wondered what tr was listening to, check it out here..sound pre-recorded and ralphie actually scanned me the cover-there is a series of these..may have come from the vaults in chi town..but i thought pix was an nyc area station-anyhow nice to get this transferred-some of trs tuned used as a bed..in fact, i think the bed was year before the teptae was released which shows you how far ahead he was working on things...another example was when my girlfriend katrina and i got backstage at merriweather in 80-he was playing parts of healing at that time at soundcheck...we all know the story about acapella, so..anyhow-keep an eye peeled for billys book-its coming and it will blow your mind.....thanks ralph

Note:this is one that was recorded for later broadcast and was truncated slightly for rebroadcast. this one of frank and paul is the best version of this available. the bonus is a 1980 adventures era interview in the bay area but i dont know if its kfog or a different station, but it is long and good. this set sounds great and is recommended for sure. ESSENTIAL

COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. JUST ONE VICTORY BONUS TRACKS: 4/19/80 INTERVIEW AT SPECTRUM
Note:this is as big as they ever got. Sold out spectrum in philly. The crowd goes wild from beg to end. Some observations: todd seems to emphasize the utopia thing- says lcm is "not on any utpia lp", calls willie "white trash" wilcox, use of motorcycle kit sounds like crap despite todd claims on the i/v. Talks of conservation of energy. -bolero nice but seemed to be a yawn for the crowd.. Still not full sounding on emergency splash. ill never forget the issue of rock love..when this songs came out, some of us were incensed that tr would pander to disco beats..hey this was record burning time. anyhow-this is good and i wonder why we didnt do this beforehand-it truly was a highwark mark for the band-who would soon finish the tour and then make a decision to release the beatles soundalike, deface, which, like the lp or not, desroyed most of the momentum gained for utopia from 78-80, of which this must be the documented peak. Sound is not perfect but good fm quality and only has a couple of mins of phase and some of the i/v is single channeled but from the same night. ESSENTIAL

Note:some yap, some boomy..high celings..but ok for the era..more boom up to love alone-sound really sucks crap on rock love..indexing is nice..odd comment from todd about "wasting energy" on trapped. also again i remain suspicous of anyone who likes the song "love alone". put it this way-i wouldnt let em watch my kids. good old find id never seen before even on cassette.

CD TWO: TODD SOLO MEDLEY. BAG LADY. CLICHE'. LOONEY TUNES. UTOPIA MEDLEY. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. JUST ONE VICTORY

Note:nice distant but clean show from the adventures..some tape flutts on lia...nice sound on arrakis..many cut ins on emergency splashdown...a blue oyster cult comment, loose tr medley-fun show....nice to have another one
5/26/80 "SECOND SET" FRESNO CALIFORNIA UNKNOWN VENUE SIGNAL VIA REMOTE WAVE(MARK WILPOLT) 74:52
Track List: BOLERO. ROCK LOVE. SAND OF ARRAKIS. EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN. LOVE ALONE. BABY DONT HOLD ME BACK. SOMETHING'S COMING. TODD MEDLEY. BAG LADY. CLICHE'. UTOPIA MEDLEY. LOVE IS THE ANSWER.
Note:> Note: mark gave me this recording long ago that i think was captured from the wireless signal- you can hear some backing sound of other music very faintly and some poofing. What is special about this is that it sounds decent but also has love is the answer which as tr explains they will play on mike douglas the next day. Bolero is strong-utopia medley is also cookin'. Nice one to have.

Note:an almost complete adventures show from la. wonderfully done by frankie and sandra winters. only missing the opener. Sound is clear and good depth for an audience and not too distant for the greek.

TODD SOLO MEDLEY. BAG LADY. CLICHE'. UTOPIA MEDLEY (CUTS AT 7 RAYS). COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. JUST ONE VICTORY. BONUS: 11/11/80 ROBERT KLEIN SHOW.
Note:here is one of the only bcasts from one of the tour's very last gigs-it is edited but edited well for back in the day.the sound is older and there were probs with a balanced sound.there is talk of who shot jr-hit singles very last time (nice version) and set me free. gangrene has willies customary intro-i guess what is super about this set is the performance. energy conservation. last ride is superb.trapped gets outta sync in a place (a rare major screw up)-the first set generally is spirited and brisk. chris anderson is interviewed at the intermission about the technology involved in the show. this set inlcudes my favorite ever performance of bag lady-cliche is brisk but delicate.we find out it turns out that willie shot jr.at the end of set a psych-phased echo comes into your ears. the medley is there but cuts at 7 rays-bummer-on the bonus interview, tr sounds a bit depressed-could have been the period of time he referred to later-that he needed healing.

Note:a real strong audience stop from this odd paired promo for Independent party presidential candidate John Anderson. best one i've heard- the bonus tracks are a various lot. nice job by frankie and paul.
10/3/80 SAN FRANCISCO BIMBO'S (TR W/TUBES) 2 CDS AUDIENCE CASS (FRANK BUBNICK) 43:12/39:52
Date Added:2/10/2002

Note:this is a new one in from frank that i hadnt had before. The reason is that it is a very average audience cassette-for sound quality, this one just isnt possible to get to sound better-this sounds the best it ever has but unfortunately, i havent heard a great recording from this very special one off with the tubes. For those who want all the special moments in tr/tubes history, this is one for sure but the sound is only decent-tr would soon join ian hunter for the anderson thing, then onto deface tour.

ROAD TO UTOPIA. ROCK LOVE. DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL. LOVE IN ACTION,
Note:this is one that musta slipped by when we were talking about good audies from this era-this is just as good as the others out there-dont know where this came from-maybe barry white.it is a bit high end-but has little yap at all except some cat calls but no distraction at all. tr really puts on a full out performance here and seems to be bouyed by the competition. one world features the alternative lyircs "were still waiting for the sky to drop dead on the floor" instead of berlin to san fran..you know..guitar wise-each tune is super-lst ride and maria shine-this seems to have a stereo mic deal here although it was old-i really enjoyed this show..bastard is a bit silly but again-last ride is worth it alone-a big time sleeper here. i like this as well as the others that have come before it on this short tour- by the way, the early show has audio as well but is clearly inferior and so much so a multi-package cant be done-i again hyped up the boston with some tracks from this 11/79 show.
10/11/80 ATLANTA AGORA (TR AND IAN HUNTER-ANDERSON BENEFIT) AUDIENCE SOURCE - recd new version from tom cannon 65:48

ALL THE YOUNG DUDES. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU (CUTS). BONUS: MONEY (UNKNOWN-PROBABLY FROM JERRY LEWIS TELETHON NY 80?)
Note:decent audience job from hotlanta on the anderson for president tour in october of 80. fun tunes on this odd match and short tour. a longer and slightly better version happens on frank's other ohio stop of this tour. Sound is good-slightly but not very distant. update 3.11.03: toms version received..

Note:not bad cd from the unique ian and todd concerts for anderson in 1980.. complete but some fan frenzy present..it is rough and from a cassette recording but has potential for decent outcome if cleaned up..at spots sounds downright super....got it from a trade-need to verify if was 2 shows (LIKE DC) or just 1 that night..

Note:this is of unknown source-actually could be radio-the reason for this is that were so few out there. sound distorts some at the end and this is only missing LIA from the original tape. contents? crazy lady is nice, one world (sky on the floor version). distortion present on last tune-LIA was cut due to this. however, this is not stellar but it is listenable and decent.. real strong audie here. the new years stuff, utopia theme...if you were there.........
