Largest Collection On The Globe of Todd Rundgren Audio Rarities

Greetings Audio Toddheads! Warren H. (Atlanta, GA. USA) here. Tony Rogers and I have transferred our entire audio collections over to my home in 2008. We (Tony & I) thought my circumstances (A 62 year old, single, IT specialist/Audio Editor guy in Atlanta with lots of Todd Rundgren history/archival collecting since 1972) would be ideal for taking over the 'Library' in all its glory. And, so an 'incorporation' of his and my colossal collections takes place! I now curate this ‘museum’. And I plan to share much of this, just as Tony did all these decades. And yes, I’m somewhat of a Todd Rundgren Historian. I have been 'following' Todd extensively (in all forms of media) ever since I saw (and met) him here at an Historic Show at Atlanta’s Fabulous Fox Theatre on November 8 1973. So I know 'enough'. Please note that I say share my enthusiasm. No buying or selling. Nor will a penny exchange hands. Never.
I want to say a big THANK YOU in advance to all of you who are going to help and have helped with this so far. I’ll do my best. Write me anytime. twarrenh@gmail.com
Just scroll down to the items listed below by period and click on any year to browse the collection.
We've also recently been working in collaboration with my friend Frank Bubnick and his well known vast quality collection (you can visit his list by clicking on his name). Some of his editing is unequaled anywhere.
And some late breaking neat news : I believe most of you are familiar with the JEMS group. A bunch of super collectors for many bands’ audience recordings (predominate though are Yes and Springsteen). Well known for their re-mastering prowess and quality. They’ve been in contact with me for a couple of years, and in December of last year offered me all their (originals) Todd Rundgren Collection. They just didn’t have the resources or the time for refining anything by Todd Rundgren. It just wasn’t on their timeline. I received all their cassettes (60) within a few weeks! Most of them are MASTER tapes from the original Taper. They will be sending me all their DATs and Reels at a later date. I will be listing all these recordings here, as I digitally transfer them. With this addition of the JEMS collection I believe these Todd Rundgren Archives are easily the largest collection on the planet.
How do we share you ask? Well, Just for what it's worth, we really don't do the 'snail mail trading' (by postal) much these days. So, if you would like me to share or trade any of this 'Catalog' with you, it would be more convenient/easiest to share in the form of on-line file transfer. Generally, in .flac format, compressed to .zip or .rar for smoother/faster quality exchange [depending upon the size of the audio file(s) we might be exchanging of course]. Hope that all makes sense. I can work with you on 'all that'. Again, write me, and then we'll come to an agreement of sorts. Please keep in mind, that anything that is 'Official', or 'Professionally Marketed', or still available for 'Retail' purchase is not of consideration. Nor is there any monetary means of transaction.
I do not have any rights to, and I am not open for sharing any material that may be listed below that has been commercially or officially released and is still available retail. (It may be listed below for collection listing purpose only). I do not take or give any money for a single item below either. I do not take away any proceeds that are due to Todd Rundgren, family, friends, business or supporting/associated musicians. If it is ROIO (recording of independent origin), then I'm open to share. Support the artist! Go buy his stuff where and whenever available! Speaking of which; an ultimate place to find/buy Todd's releases and imports & rarities is TRBAZAAR. Check it out! If Scott ain't got it, nobody does...just about! And of course many past official CD/DVD releases and proprietary Todd merchandise is readily available for ordering on-line at The Toddstore. So check them out for sure.
I like to give credit where credit is due too. So please forgive me if I do not credit the right persons involved in making these recordings available/possible for all these years.
I’ll start a ‘Credits’ list here below, and maintain it on down the road. Like to make sure all the folks involved are appreciated. For now, let me go ahead and thank some folks that have really been instrumental in these archives (no particular order): Tony Rogers (of course), Mike Armes, Jeff Gauss 'Weavil' (RIP), Frank Bubnick, Paul Russo, Hiroshi Kawauchi, Istvan Berzenczei, Sara Kritzer, Barry Beiseigel, Marc Linowitz, Rob 'Lockjaw' Levangie, Roger Steel, Mike Adrian, Gil Ireland-Ashley, Jim Farrell, Dale Michelsohn, Gary Urwin, Don B., Bob Stanislowski (RIP), Micheal B., Jon Risen, Jon Babcock, Mark Wilpolt, Tom Cannon, Lin Sprague, Joe Franks, Chris 'Razz', Geoff (& Rick) Laurenzo, Ted Moon, Richard Roys, Storm Hunter, Moz (Mike), Sohta Fujito, David Skye, Allen Law, Matt Walsh, Kevin Lewis, Doug Ford, Dave Knife, JEMS, Jared Houser, Gene Poole, 'Elegymart', Gail Artsgard, Victor Baissait, Connor Payne and players to be named later. Special thanks to Roger Linder for providing this page space for us for decades. Let's Rock!
BTW, I call this group of people 'My Cartel'. However, I have given the group a Media name: F451 Media (as in 451 Farenheit). It is not a brand name, for nothing of mine is for sale or has been sold EVER. It is a logo for these dedicated Todd Rundgren Collectors , which most of been doing this since the early 90s (and even earler). Our logo is:

1980 SHAWN CASSIDY- 'WASP' LP SOURCE (TRANSFER BY T STORM HUNTER) 41:41
Date Added:3/25/2001
Track List:REBEL REBEL. COOL FIRE. THE BOOK I READ. PRETENDING. SHAKE ME, WAKE ME. ITS MY LIFE. SO SAD ABOUT US. WASP. SELFLESS LOVE. ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY
Note:This fabulous T Storm transfer captures the Utopia on a bunch of covers and Todd songs. This odd pairing was an attempt for Warner Bros to try to revive Shawn's career out of the kiddie pop into a more rock sound. I remember being stunned at hearing Todd involvement. He made some weird choices at this new height of Utopia's ('80 Adventures) popularity (this and Deface within a few months?). I like the songs, but I really think that at times the music sounds like synthy plastic rock and Shawn really sounds strange at places. Many believe this was an important work for Todd and co. Personally, I think the playing is similar to the perfomances on the Froggy Pumpkin sessions... except for more synth and Shawn just doesnt carry his weight on these covers. And notice Todd's choices on covers include tunes he's played before... very well done and for those who want to decide for yourself. It has been released on (very hard to find) CD however...if you search on-line hard enough.~ Tony

3/18/80 CHICAGO WXRT INTERVIEW TODD AND WILLIE WXRT RADIO
Date Added:7/11/2013
Track List:INTERVIEW
Note:Chi-town, program content of the Utopia TV show is somewhat revealed... early fascinating talk of the future of video in 1980. Todd pretty much envisions whats happening NOW all the way back then...strong sales of lp... Whats most interesting is the rap about how much democracy existed then in Utopia. Super.~ Tony
3/26/80 KEIL OPERA HOUSE ST LOUIS MO KBFH BROADCAST- VINYL DUB JON RISEN 22:14:52
Date Added:7/5/2013
Track List:ROAD TO UTOPIA. BACK ON THE STREET. SHOT IN THE DARK. SET ME FREE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. CLICHE'. GANGRENE.
Note: Jon helps us out by doing a great transfer from vinyl of the old KBFH show from 1980. The excellent performance was edited for broadcast. And a curious selection of eight tunes (ending up with Gangrene. "...Y'all ready to rock and roll...1,2,3,4..." One day we'll do a CD of Willie's different variations of this rant & song that went on for years...).~ Tony
4/5/80 CHICK EVANS FIELD HOUSE DEKALB IL AUDIENCE (GEOFF LAURENZO) MASTER 68:00
Date Added:5/26/2016
Track List:ROAD TO UTOPIA.BACK ON THE STREET.CARAVAN.SHOT IN THE DARK.SET ME FREE.LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.THE LAST RIDE.TRAPPED.LOVE IN ACTION.LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS.BOLERO INTERMISSION.THANKS YOUS. (MISSING – EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN- TAPE FLIP-)SOMETHINGS COMING.MEDLEY: COMMUNION WITH THE SUN/IKON/THE SEVEN RAYS/SINGRING/INITIATION/UTOPIA. COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU.JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note:Another Geoff Laurenzo audience recording installment from his Master Tapes. Though a little rough (from a Mono Sony T-42 Walkman) and much audience yells and distraction near the mics, this came out pretty decent after much editing. Some tracks come off better than others (such as the extended 'Medley' portion). We believe we get pretty much the whole show (though short) with the exception of Emergency Splashdown (due to Tape flip/change). And the setlist is a little different than what we were accustomed to in April and May of 1980 (see the shows below). So it’s a rare one and well worth the fun listen. Thanks so much again Geoff!~ Warren

Note:This is one that was recorded for later broadcast and was truncated slightly for rebroadcast. This set sounds great and is recommended for sure. ESSENTIAL~ Warren
*In reference to the above Bonus interview piece, our good buddy Don Bauer had this to awesome story to add!:”That is an interview that I produced along with my friend Christopher Lindsley. The interviewer's voice you hear is that of Chris. He worked for an excellent AM radio station here in S.F. at the time -- KFRC. He worked there as an intern for awhile, and eventually got a gig helping Dr. Don Rose (a legendary morning AM DJ at the time) as a jack-of-all-trades during his morning shift (get coffee, grabs records, etc.). Chris worked his connections from within the radio station to land this interview with Todd (and Roger as it turned out), with some incessant pushing by me, of course. So that weekend when Utopia was in town, they agreed to do an interview! So on a quiet Sunday early afternoon we went downtown to the radio station to do the interview, not knowing what to expect. They showed up, and thus I got to meet Todd (for the 2nd or 3rd time). We started rolling tape, and I had this whole list of questions that made it clear that I knew more than just a little about Todd and Utopia. Todd was particularly surprised about how well 'researched' we were with the questions, and they opened up and were quite expansive. What was supposed to be a short 1/2 hour or less interview, (not on the air, by the way, recorded to reel-to-reel) quickly turned into over an hour long. Unfortunately, the union engineer who was there for that shift wandered off and never changed reels we found out afterward, so we lost much of the 2nd half of the interview. But we talked about Utopia's interest in TV & video, how they wanted to land a TV show and television in general (and how bad it was at the time). And a whole host of topics. Thusly, only about 45 seconds of that interview was used and aired on KFRC, just a ‘quick hit’, canned and played between songs for a few days shortly thereafter.”~ Don B.
4/19/80 THE SPECTRUM PHILADELPHIA WMMR FM 75:40/74:07
Date Added:10/22/2001
Track List:CD ONE: ROAD TO UTOPIA. BACK ON THE STREET. CARAVAN. SHOT IN THE DARK. SET ME FREE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. GANGRENE. THE LAST RIDE. TRAPPED. LOVE IN ACTION. LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS. BOLERO. ROCK LOVE. SANDS OF ARRAKIS. EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN CD TWO: LOVE ALONE. DONT HOLD ME BACK. YOU MAKE ME CRAZY (VIDEO). SOMETHING'S COMING. TODD MEDLEY. BAG LADY. CLICHE'. UTOPIA MEDLEY. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. JUST ONE VICTORY. BONUS TRACK: 4/19/80 INTERVIEW AT SPECTRUM
Note:This is as big as they ever got. Sold out Spectrum in Philly. The crowd goes wild from beginning to end. Some observations: Todd seems to emphasize the Utopia thing- says LOTCM is "not on any Utopia LP", calls Willie 'White Trash' Wilcox, use of motorcycle drum kit sounds like crap... despite Todd claims on the Bonus Interview. Talks of conservation of energy. - Bolero nice, but seemed to be a yawn for the crowd... Still not full sounding on Emergency Splashdown. Never forget the issue of Rock Love..when this songs came out, some of us were incensed that Todd would pander to disco beats...hey this was record burning time. Anyhow - this is good. It truly was a high water mark for the band - who would soon finish the tour - and then make a decision to release the Beatleish DEface The Music (which, like the LP or not, desroyed most of the momentum gained for Utopia from 78-80), of which this show must be the documented peak. Sound is not perfect, but good FM quality and only has a couple of mins of phase... and some of the Interview is single channeled but from the same night. ESSENTIAL~ Tony

Note:Some yap, some boomy...high celings...but OK for the time/era. More boom up to Love Alone - sound really bad on Rock Love...indexing is nice...odd comment from Todd about "wasting energy" on Trapped. This is a good old find I'd never heard before on cassette.` Tony

Note:Nice distant (but clean) show from the Adventures...some tape flutts on Love In Action...nice sound on Arrakis...many cut ins on Emergency Splashdown...A Blue Oyster Cult comment, loose Todd medley - fun show...nice to have another audience source for this show (see above)~ Tony
5/26/80 WARNER THEATER FRESNO CA - SECOND SET SIGNAL VIA REMOTE WAVE (MARK WILPOLT) 74:52
Track List:BOLERO. ROCK LOVE. SAND OF ARRAKIS. EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN. LOVE ALONE. BABY DONT HOLD ME BACK. SOMETHING'S COMING. TODD MEDLEY. BAG LADY. CLICHE. UTOPIA MEDLEY. LOVE IS THE ANSWER.
Note:Mark gave us this recording long ago, We think was captured from the wireless signal- you can hear some backing sound of other music very faintly and some poofing. What is special about this is that, it sounds decent, and has Love Is the Answer which as Todd explains; they will play on Mike Douglas the next day. Bolero is strong - Utopia medley is also cooking. Nice one to have.~ Warren

Note:Pro source…yes I know, it is officially available on DVD (Sanctuary)- but this is my own recording and audio dub off Nickelodeon (cable TV) the night it was broadcast. It wasn’t a live stream, for the ‘Bolero Interlude’ is missing. And some of the performances fade out and into the next one at places. But, the quality/sound is excellent. It's funny because the Nickelodeon Broadcast has some performances that the DVD does not and vice versa. But this is all the audio from the June 5th 1980 show for history sake. So it was difficult matching the levels for the two videos soundtracks. You can find/buy the DVD through Scott at TRBAZAAR. ?~ Warren
6/7/80 UTOPIA INTERVIEW WLIR LONG ISLAND WLIR RADIO
Date Added:7/11/2013

CHRIS ANDERSON INTERVIEW (2 SEGMENTS). BOLERO. SANDS OF ARRAKIS. EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN. CD TWO: LOVE ALONE. DONT HOLD ME BACK. YOU MAKE ME CRAZY (VIDEO). SOMETHING'S COMING/WILLIES SOLO. TODD SOLO MEDLEY. BAG LADY. CLICHE'. UTOPIA MEDLEY (CUTS AT 7 RAYS). COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. JUST ONE VICTORY. BONUS: 11/11/80 ROBERT KLEIN SHOW.
Note:Here is one of the only Broadcasts from one of the tour's very last gigs. It is edited well for back in the day. The sound is older, and there were probs with a balanced sound. There is talk of who shot JR - hit singles Very Last Time (nice version) and Set Me Free. Gangrene has Willie's customary intro...I guess what is super about this set is the performance. Energy conservation. Last Ride is superb. Trapped gets outta sync in a place (a rare major screw up)-the first set generally is spirited and brisk. Chris Anderson is interviewed, at the intermission, about the technology involved in the show. This set includes my favorite ever performance of Bag lady- Cliche is brisk but delicate. We find out it turns out that Willie shot JR. At the end of set a psych-phased echo comes into your ears. The medley is there, but cuts at Seven Rays- bummer- on the bonus interview, Todd sounds a bit depressed. Could have been the period of time he referred to later (that he needed healing).~ Tony
7/24/80 UTOPIA PINE KNOB MUSIC THEATRE CLARKSTON MI AUDIENCE(MASTER TAPES) GEOFF LAURENZO 84:00
Date Added:6/4/2016
Track List:ROAD TO UTOPIA.CARAVAN.SET ME FREE.LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.THE LAST RIDE.GANGRENE.ROCK LOVE.BOLERO/SANDS OF ARAKIS/EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN.BABY DON'T HOLD ME BACK (KASIM ACOUSTIC SET EXCERPT).YOU MAKE ME CRAZY.SOMETHING'S COMING (W/WILLIE DRUM SOLO).(CUTS IN) HELLO IT'S ME (TODD ACOUSTIC SET EXCERPT).BAG LADY (TODD ACOUSTIC SET EXCERPT).LOVE IN ACTION.LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS.COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU.JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note:Geoff Laurenzo audience recording (MASTER Tape). Here's another 'the best I can do' with this one. It's hard to describe. It’s very likeable…most of it. Again, it's not a fanciful recording. But I think it's very much a keeper. Distant 'concert hallish' acoustics for the most part. Some tunes sound great, and then again, some not so good. And lot's of 'spikes ‘that I tried to bring down (microphone 'smacks', sudden volume distortion...and the young lady... who must've been right next to Geoff, screams stuff at times). We’re probably missing (not on tapes): ‘Love Alone’, Most of ‘Todd’s Acoustic Solo Medley’, ‘Utopia Medley’ (Communion With The Sun/ Ikon/The Seven Rays/Singring/ Initiation/Utopia Theme) and ‘Love Is The Answer’. Unless this was some sort of shortened set. In these ‘Adventures’ sets, the band really delivers. And night after night after night. It nice to have just another piece of this historic record. So thanks again Geoff! ~ Warren
7/26/80 POPLAR CREEK MUSIC THEATRE POPLAR CREEK IL AUDIENCE MASTER GEOFF LAURENZO 45:58/28:36/60:00

Track List:TAPE ONE SIDE A: ROAD TO UTOPIA.CARAVAN.SET ME FREE.LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.THE LAST RIDE.ROCK LOVE.BOLERO/SANDS OF ARAKIS/EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN/SOMETHING'S COMING (W/WILLIE DRUM SOLO - CUTS OUT). TAPE ONE SIDE B: SOMETHING'S COMING (W/WILLIE DRUM SOLO - CONT'D).MEDLEY: IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE/CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS/A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER/HELLO IT'S ME.LOVE IN ACTION.LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS.COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU.JUST ONE VICTORY. TAPE TWO: ROAD TO UTOPIA.CARAVAN.SET ME FREE.LOVE THE COMMON MAN.THE LAST RIDE.COMMUNION WITH THE SUN.(SOUND CHECK) PARTS OF BOLERO & DRUM SOLO/ONE WORLD/LOVE IN ACTION.
Note: This first tape (audience recording) by Geoff, is just not good. We'll just save it here in the vaults for posterity reasons. I think that Geoff's Sony T-42 portable cassette tape recorder had just suffered much through recording dozens & dozens of Todd Rundgren shows since 1974. Again, though the band’s performance is tight, the first tapes quality is maybe listenable at best.
Then it is strange, but the second tape is the same show (though very partial), and the quality is fair. And very interesting enough Geoff had stage passes and was allowed to witness the soundcheck (which he recorded as well here on this second tape). And what I thinkis great is he captured 'One World' rehearsed. The first time Todd offered us 'One World' was during October 1980 'Run' with Ian Hunter ('John Anderson For President' Tour). So this recording is damn rare.
So I repeat (sorry) this tape two, 60 minute TDK, has much better phonics to it, after some adjustments. Still pretty rough. Missing a lot of the rest of the show. The last part of Side B starts off (very bumpy) with what I thought was 'Bolero'. But then it has a lengthy drum solo and 'One World' just kind of kicks off… followed by 'Love In Action'. So both these tapes are very worthy of ‘collectble’.~ Warren

Track List:FIRST SET:THE ROAD TO UTOPIA.BACK ON THE STREET. CARAVAN. THE VERY LAST TIME. SET ME FREE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. GANGRENE. THE LAST RIDE. TRAPPED. LOVE IN ACTION. LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS. SECOND SET:BOLERO INTERLUDE. ROCK LOVE. SANDS OF ARAKIS. EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN. LOVE ALONE. BABY, DON'T HOLD ME BACK.
Note:We've had this cassette in the vaults forever it seems. Can't believe we haven't transferred to digital until now (along with the next days show on the 9th...see entry below). We thank Joe Franks for his 'magic' with equalizing out this one. Because with the exception of audience yap (which is always the case with New York audience tapings), this is a great recording of one of Todd's (a/o Utopia's) traditional/annual historic appearances at Wollman Rink in Central Park. As most of you know these 1980 Utopia shows were two sets. The first set with the band wearing 80's rock n' roll garb and then the second set (seperated by the intrumental 'Bolero') the band comes out in the infamous matching white futuristic jump suits. And the last portion of 'Bolero', we get to hear Todd on a short Sax solo, Kaz on clarinet and Roger of course on horn. However, We're missing much of the last portion of the show, including '(Willie's Solo) Somethings Coming', 'It Wouldn't have made Any Difference', 'Can We Still Be Friends', ' A Dream Goes On Forever', 'Hello It's Me', ‘Cliche’, Segment Medley of: ‘ Communion With The Sun/The Ikon/Singring And The Glass Guitar/Initiation/Utopia Theme’, ‘ Couldn't I Just Tell You’ & ‘ Love Is The Answer’. Again, these two shows were historic. ESSENTIAL~ Warren

Note:Another one from Hiroshi’s vaults. He had the same audience recording, but lower generation and the COMPLETE SHOW. He digitalized it and did a little equalization on it and WOW. So I split the tracks and now we have the whole piece of History of this day (Aug. 8 1980). Notice that they did not perform ‘Love Is The Answer’, as they did on the 9th as an encore. But the sound is good and we have the entire show now. ESSENTIAL. Like I said; HISTORY~Warren

LAST OF THE NEW WAVE RIDERS (CROWD FADES OUT). SECOND SET: BOLERO INTERLUDE. ROCK LOVE. SANDS OF ARAKIS. EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN. LOVE ALONE. BABY, DON'T HOLD ME BACK. SOMETHING'S COMING (WILLIE SOLO). IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE/CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS/A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER/HELLO IT'S ME (CROWD CUTS).
Note:Like the above entry (the August 8th Show), we've had this cassette in the vaults forever it seems. And we just now have digitalized it to CD(s). This audience recording is not as great as the 8th, but still captures history and essential to have. It's heavy on the 'bass' side and so much more audience noise (mostly from whoever was sitting next to the taper). And seems to have been captured further from the stage than the 8th show. Thanks to Joe Franks, this is still very much a good sound, enjoyable and fun collector's trophy. Both shows get to focus a on the individual band members in second set. Each have their solos which display shear talent. But you all know that. And if I'm not mistaken this is the show which also was video fan filmed. And there are some pretty good copies of that floating around 'out there' in our trading circle. I believe Roger Steel has the best copy (of the video) that I have seen.~ Warren

COMMUNION WITH THE SUN/IKON/SINGRING AND THE GLASS GUITAR/INITIATION/UTOPIA THEME. COULDN’T I JUST TELL YOU. LOVE IS THE ANSWER. JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note:This in from Hiroshi’s vaults. He had the same audience recording, but lower generation and the whole second set. He digitalized it and did a little equalization on it and WOW…now we have the whole piece of History. Though a lot of New York crowd chatter, Great sound and it’s an incredible set. Incredible Venue for Todd 1973 to 1980. This is the last time Todd appears at Central Park. Park residents complaining about the noise level closed the Wollman Rink from concerts. Todd (and other artists) then focused on Pier 84 for outdoor New York shows.THIS IS ESSENTIAL~Warren

Note:This one just in to me from a very generous fellow only known as 'Elegymart'. This one, though partial, is super rare and not in circulation anywhere (6:30 Early Show from August 9 1980).Recorded by Gene Poole, who is now known for his vast number of rare New York Recording.
This one was a toughy, it had some 'Synthesized Noise" that I had to adjust. Then I brought the highlights up front (mostly vocals).
This is now an awesome representation of one of these historic Shows. However. as Central Park is, or all New York Shows for that matter, audiences that are very yappy, noisy and roudy. With the exception of the first Track, and though it's a partial Show it’s ESSENTIAL. Thank you Gene Poole and 'elegymart'! ~ Warren

Note: A guy I only know as 'Peter' contacted me about my TRConnection CD-R List. He says he was one of the soundboard technicians for WLIR 'Party In The Park II' at Belmont Raceway Elmont NY on August 23 1980. He clarified me about the YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kW7xQNvFCzk. He says that the Joan Jett stuff is from the 1981 'Party in the Park III' at Fireman's Memorial Park Log Island/Hempstead. And that the rest is from the 1980 'Party In The Park II'. He went on to tell me that Rick Derringer was not the 'Host' of the 'Party In The Parks', but only one of the 'main billings'. He's dissapointed about one of his main soundboard tapes from the 1980 making it out into the Bootleg world as 'Rick Derringer Party In The Park' (see for example: http://rateyourmusic.com/release/unauth/rick_derringer/party_in_the_park/). He says that Todd came on the stage immediately following Derringer. That much I knew, for we have Todd's performance in the Archives' Having said all that, he says he's not familiar with the 1981-09-13 'Rick Derringer & Friends at the Palladium, New York for WLIR-FM was not involved in that. But he asked for a copy of it in MP3s. Which I did... and in exchange he sent me the whole soundboard of 'Party In The Park II'! All 5 hours and 36 minutes of it in one big WAV!
The artists performances on it are (in appearance order): The Good Rats, Flo & Eddie, Blotto, Pure Prairie League, Rick Derringer, Todd, Al DiMeola, David Bromberg and Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes.
This is as good as it gets folks! WOW! Thank you 'Peter'. Whoever & wherever you are~ Warren

Note:This one in courtesy of Gil Ireland-Ashley’s collection. Is there more of this Soundboard floating around out there somewhere? We don’t know. Seems a shame that all we have is this very abbreviated portion of a very good show (for we have a great audience recording). No Tubes here. Just a smidgen (though VERY good) of Todd Soundboard.~ Warren

Note:This just in from Mark Wilpolt. His own Audience Recording which is a shade better than Bubnick’s Source. Especially the Second Tape (Disc Two) and the Tubes portion of ‘Jailhouse Rock’ and ‘Heartbreak Hotel’. I took Mark's Raw two Tape Sides and brought the highlights more out front (mostly vocals) and tried to cut out much of the yap, hand clapping and 'whooohooos' from those that seem to be next to Mark’s recorder. And then I sent it to Gil Ireland Ashley, and he did a wonderful job on 'speed' correction and faded 'ins' & 'outs' of the two Tape Sides. And thanks to Gil. I love this Show. And thanks as always to Mark!.ESSENTIAL~ Warren

Note:2nd gen cassette (RIP Bob S) > Audacity (tracking) > wav > FLAC (level 8, add tags)
Gil Ireland-Ashley says,"I was actually at this one, the 2nd of 2 nights; it was billed as a 'Benefit for Joel', though I've never been clear on who that is. My buddy Dan and I drove all day from LA, only to be initially turned away at the doo rbecause I was not yet 21 (see ticket - no minors!). After (not very much) pleading and explaining that we had driven 500 miles for the show, the bouncer let us in. The core combo was Todd and Tubes: Prairie Prince, Rick Anderson and Vince Wellnick.
I chatted a bit with Bill Spooner in the crowd before the show, so his guest turn wasnot a huge surprise. Fee Waybill (and, I think, Mike Cotten) joined in at the very end for the Who medley. Todd stated the previous night that Compassion was gettingits premiere, so this show marked the 2nd performance of that song (in F, on solo piano).
The Band format was:
4-piece band (1st 4 songs), solo piano (5 songs), 2 songs solo on acoustic guitar, Sputnik (Introduced only as Juan Tyrone) joining the combo to sing 3 songs, 3 songs as a quartet and then 'everyone' joining in for the medley. 'Just One Victory' was with the 4-piece.
This is not the best recording by any stretch, but what can I say? It's a one-off special (OK, a two-off), and I was there!
BTW, We drove back all night to LA with a faulty alternator, stopping every 2 hours to charge the battery for an hour, but made it back by dawn so Dan could go to work! Good times...enjoy all!"~ Gil Ireland-Ashley

Gil transferred this age old cassette for me. It started out as a very rough recording, but I thought some of it 'had promise'. And I edited the best I could. Side B (Disc Two) was extremely distorted and I could not do anything with the Sputnik piece or the fee Waybill 'Who' piece. I guess they just 'are what they are'. Almost annoying. The rest of the show I think I restored nicely. I think that this is the best this is gonna get. We already have a good copy of the first Night (1980-10-03) from Frank Bubnick. So this completes the history and we thank you Gil!~ Warren

Note:This is of unknown source-actually could be radio-the reason for this is that they're were so few out there. Sound distorts some at the end, and this is only missing LIA from the original tape. Contents? Crazy Lady Blue is nice, One World (sky on the floor version). Distortion present on last tune, LIA was cut due to this. This is not stellar but it is listenable and decent. Real strong audie here. The New Years stuff, Utopia Theme...if you were there.........~ Tony
