1978 | ELIZABETH BARRACLOUGH | STUDIO VINYL BEARSVILLE 201.039 | 23:51/19:21 |
Date Added:9/4/2013 Track List:SIDE 1: WILLY RUBY. BELIEVE IT SO. BONEY MOUNTAIN. LIKE THE DESERT NEEDS THE SAND. COVERED UP IN ACES. SIDE 2: WHO DO YOU THINK'S THE FOOL. SHEPHERD'S BUSH. DON'T TV ME. SUNSET HARVEST MOON. LATE IN MY BED. Note:Actually a Netherlands artist. Todd appears as 'guitarist' on this 1978 Solo vinyl release by Elizabeth. She later did a second album (Hi)Liner notes show recorded in London, Nashville & Bearsville. She also appears performing with band in the 'infamous' 1977 Bearsville Picnic Video (Old Grey Whistle). A very different Kind of a Country, Blues type of act. Acoustic Bass – Bob Boucher. Acoustic Guitar – Billy Sanford. Bass – Bob Boucher, Ian Hampton, Mick Hodgkinson, Mike Leech. Drums – Dave Lewis, Kenny Buttrey, Malcolm Mortimore. Guitar – Elizabeth Barraclough, Smoke Abingdon, Mick Hodgkinson, Todd Rundgren. Harmonica – Paul Butterfield. Keyboards – Mick Hodgkinson. One reviewer wrote, "I had never previously heard of Elizabeth, and bought the album mainly on the basis of the supporting cast. It was released on Bearsville Records so naturally involves Todd Rundgren, but others include The Band's producer John Simon, harmonica legend Paul Butterfield and crack Nashville session players like Charlie McCoy and Kenny Buttrey. It was produced by Albert Grossman, Dylan's former manager and owner of Bearsville, with sleeve notes by Jim Rooney, who went on to produce Nanci Griffith and others. It also has one of the most unflattering photos imaginable on the front cover - it makes her look like a grumpy trucker". Listed here just for posterity....Only for the Todd die-hard extreme for sure~ Warren |

Note:Don't really know why I include this in the Archives. I guess because of the Super Stars involved! Story goes that Todd was in Woodstock and just joined in the 'Jam'. He did not have any Production involvement. But some stuff is pretty cool. Especially Randy Van Warmer's'Just When I Need You Most'(sung by Ian). Here's an 'overblown' Shockwavemagazine Review of the re-release Record Store Day Album. Calling it 'Corky Lang's POMPEII"!: Corky Laing’s Pompeii: The Secret Sessions: Let’s take a trip back to the late 70s, which was a turbulent time for musical tastes. Punk was just beginning to surface and it replaced the increasingly complacent era of glam and classic rock. Therefore, Bands like Mountain and Mott the Hoople were now the old guard and kids no longer cared. Corky Laing, drummer for the legendary rock band Mountain and founder of supergroup Pompeii says, “In this environment, my record company Elektra/Asylum was preparing to bail on me, but before doing so, they asked if I wanted to form a so-called ‘Supergroup.’ I had no choice, and so began the journey into The Secret Sessions. The Secret Sessions is their long lost album and features Corky Laing, Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson, Felix Pappalardi, Dickey Betts, Leslie West, Todd Rundgren, John Sebastian and Eric Clapton and is set for release on Record Store Day – April 21, 2018. The album opens with a classic sound in the shape of “Easy Money.” It shows off infectious dark lines which manoeuvre their way around the verses, while the piano punches through. “The Best Thing” is up next and this number shines through. Furthermore, it makes you smile from cheek to cheek. It’s a track full of love and soaring guitars, which consequently vamp it up. “I Ain’t No Angel” is straight to the point with funk filled grooves and mesmerising tones. It definitely isn’t no angel. “I Hate Dancin” follows and is funky from the seams inward. It makes you want to move your body without a second thought as the power of the song takes control. “The Outsider” tells a tale which draws you in with every word. Imagine the wind and sun blasting on your face while crushing guitars bring a gritty, raw sound to the mix. “Silent Movie” is soulful and you can feel it deep throughout while the harmonica sets the track perfectly. “Growin’ Old With Rock & Roll” is full of feeling, drums, rhythm and blues. It really captures the essence of growing old with something you love. “On My Way To Georgia” gets things going with the drumbeat while electronic bongos add an additional vibe to this southern groove. “Just When I Needed You Most” is beautiful and enchanting. It will have you fixated after just one listen. “Lowdown Freedom” is upbeat and rock & roll guitars keep the flavor sweet. It is foot tapping good from start to finish. Bonus tracks “Easy Money,” “Silent Movie” and “Growin’ Old With Rock & Roll” have been re-recorded with Corky’s current solo band consisting of Chris Shutters and Mark Mikel, bringing a fresh sound to these classic tracks. The album closes with new track “Knock Me Over,” and it knocks you over with euphoric guitars and a modern twist. Corky Laing’s Pompeii: The Secret Sessions is something very special indeed and leaves you with taste for more. 1978 | JEAN-YVES LABAT 'TRANSITION #1' | LP TRANSFER CHRIS ‘RAZZ’ | 33:00 |
Date Added:1/12/2019 Track List:U-BOAT.LE VOYEUR.THE FLIGHT OF KROMAK 3.SUBTRONICK.CASH.USA.MATRIX 16.TRANSITION #1. Note:Another very obscure album from France, courtesy of Chris ‘Razz’. An extension of Jean Yves Labat’s (Formerly know as M. Frog) 1976 Album ‘Underwater Electronic Music’. Only ’U.S.A.’ and ‘Transition #1’ do not appear on fore-mentioned Album. Basically just two new tracks. A gamut from synthijazz to the usual electronic mysterioso- cosmic space stuff - all of it competent but way too innovative. If you're an electronic music freak, however, you might enjoy it~ Warren |

Note:This appears in an entry here solely for listing purposes. This unreleased Album only appears on the 2001 OFFICIAL CRCL-7707/08 Nippon Crown (Japan) Todd Archive Series Vol 4 ‘Demos & Lost Albums’. For Todd is all over it. 8 of the Tracks written by Todd & performed by Utopia & Labat. In the Liner notes, Todd says, “I don’t remember much about it. I encouraged Jean Yves Labat to take advantage of the punk rock craze, and let him use my studio to work out his concept. I also talked him into wearing a frog costume, strapping a synthesizer & batteries to his back, and going out on the streets to perform, which he did about twice.” And here appears the group performance of Fan favorite - The Mysterians' ’96 Tears’ for the first & only time. Unlike any Album that Labat does, this one is rock & Roll. “Demos & Lost Albums,’ of course, is filled of Collectors Items. And I believe Todd released it just for the Fan. That is an entry for another day. Thank you Todd!~ Warren |

Date Added:7/4/2001 Track List:CD ONE: INTRO/WNEW. REAL MAN. IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. THE RANGE WAR. LOVE IN ACTION. NEVER NEVER LAND. YOU CRIED WOLF. UNCHAINED MELODY. WNEW JINGLE. WHO WROTE THE BOOK OF LOVE?. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS?. BREAD, DONT YOU EVER LEARN?. DUST IN THE WIND. THE VERB "TO LOVE". CD TWO: A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. IM SO PROUD/OOH BABY BABY/LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU/I SAW THE LIGHT. EASTERN INTRIGUE. INITIATION. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU HELLO ITS ME. JUST ONE VICTORY. HANG ON SLOOPY. OUTRO/WNEW. Note:What a great fun relaxed show to groove to. The source is the low generation tape we got from long time Toddhead Brian Welsh. The WNEW crew does a good job of explaining the tour, but calls Kazim a former member and says Moogy is the only Utopia member in the band (not true at all- Willie wise). Dust In The Wind sung by Moogy nicely. Bread- some balance vol wise. Problems as on the Midnight Special version occurs here. But Todd really nails the leads. A very strange version of Verb to Love where it started way too fast, and never gets back to the correct speed.. Rick derringer on Soul Medley & Sloopy. This is a long standing classic that sounds great.~ Tony ESSENTIAL |

Note:A wonderful and very rare audience recording by Gil! He recorded it, he transferred it, and he tweaked it, and shared it with us. Thank you Gil! Gil says, “This is a pretty decent audience capture from Night 1 Show 2 of the week-long run at The Roxy in May of 1978; in other words show #2 of 14. The Roxy is a small room so the sound is very listenable, not the best recording by a long shot but still well worth the download. This is also a special show to me because of the 90+ Todd shows I've seen....this was the very first time I saw TR live. All that said, here are the shortcomings: -It starts with LOTCM, meaning Real Man and IWHMAD are both missing . -there is a tape flip during Black Maria, and another during The Last Ride (this was actually a 9 second dropout which I cut out) -Determination is missing the first half of the song -the recording ends after the 2nd encore LITA, meaning the third encore CIJTY is missing, as well as a 4th encore half an hour later when Todd, having showered and changed, came out and played A Dream Goes On Forever at the piano to get the 50 or so of us who wouldn't leave to go home so the club could close. So now you know. This is from my 1st gen cassette. Nothing on this set appears on BTTB; nothing on this set appears on Another Side Of Roxy; nothing on this set appears on the Lack Of Honest Work box set. Never Never Land from this show is on the bootleg vinyl EP "Rundgren Comes Alive", but that is certainly not an official release so this recording is safe to share. (As a side note, of the 6 shows from NYC and LA that I have excluding the 5/23 FM broadcast, only The Last Ride from 5/21/78 late appears on BTTB "according to my ears"). “ 1st Gen Maxell UD-XII-->Audacity (Speed Correction, Tracking)-->Wav-->Flac (Level 8) |

Note:Warren's notes: Very good audience recording that I dubbed from age old Cassette... and left 'as is'...just split the tracks. We're missing much here due to silent gaps on the tape (probably due to the fact that the taper only had one tape and these shows definitely needed two). So many songs are partial. And we're missing 'A Dream Goes On Forever' (after The Verb "To Love") & 'Couldn't I Just Tell You' (after Initiation). But this Tape I finally found, in the Archives here, is magnificent quality & ESSENTIAL~ Warren Gil's note: I just restored this to its proper speed and re-tracked it, otherwise it's unchanged in its original glory. GIA- AND THANK YOU GIL! EXCELLENT & ESSENTIAL! |

This one is a incredible quality audience recording that surfaced recently by Mike Millard. And we thank him, ‘cause this is good. REAL good. It has Moogy performing 'Dust In The Wind' (as opposed to Todd being featured). And The Hello people are very much featured on two tunes). As mentioned above, ‘Don’t You Ever learn’ has some problems due to tape flaw. But all in all, this one is absolutel history. ESSENTIAL~ Warren |

Note:A one of a kind document for sure..we think this is one of the shows that ended up having tracks on the Japanese Nippon Series...Sound is yappy but is very nice at times... great in fact for an 1978 audience tape...a really nice You Cried Wolf...some zipper cuts at end of Determination (which is pretty nice but the backgrounds dont quite make it)...a huge hole in the center of Initiation..the tune is just not meant to be played with a grand piano as the only keyboard..it misses Roger bad - not Moogy's fault though, he does very well..just not suited to the piano trio concept - its far too complicated for that..great great show..and decent audie of it. Thanks Gil for capturing it!~ Warren |

Note:Wolfman Jack adorns this classic from the Back To The Bars recording show series in LA. Some high end strangeness results from the microwave method, but still sounds great for a 78 show. "...I can feel it microwaving all over the country..."~ Todd. Stevie nicks (probably thru Fishkin) added to the usual participants as well as- Spencer Davis harp on Range War (the BTTB version was this show for sure). Black Maria as well. Hall & Oates guest on Sometimes I Dont Know...She's Gone is good as well. Many sections where the Hello People do the 50s style station IDs during the program. Lotsa fun. Another classic."...For those of you at home; my guitar just got a round of applause..."~ Todd. 'DREAMIN' SIDE' (2): HELLO IT'S ME. (THERE'S A REAL MAN)AKA: REAL MAN.IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. (EVERYONE IS WAITING)AKA: LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. Note: Did a 'needle drop' on my Boot CLEAR Vinyl 'Death of Rock'n Roll'. Came out wonderfully. There is barely audible hiss during quieter moments but that's not the Vinyl. That is the FM Broadcast. This is actually parts of the FM Broadcast of 1978-08-12 The Place Seattle WA. Just nine Tracks (a few with funny Titles), and they're in scattered order; as opposed to following the FM order of appearance. Still, this a super rare Boot and fun to have, in digital, for historic record (and make a CD of it for my shelves). We have the whole FM Show here in our Archives in a seperate Entry.~ Warren |

Date Added:5/14/2014 Track List:DISC ONE: REAL MAN.IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE.LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.TRAPPED.ABANDON CITY.THE VERB TO LOVE.THE SEVEN RAYS.CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS (TAPE SKIP 2:52 IN).DISC TWO:THE DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL.YOU CRIED WOLF.GANGRENE.A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.BLACK MARIA.EASTERN INTRIGUE.INITIATION.COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU.HELLO IT'S ME.JUST ONE VICTORY. BONUS:(CUTS IN) JUST ONE VICTORY - ACTUALLY FROM 1978-08-19 EARLY SHOW. Note:This is a special one. One of the audience recordings that we thought was lost and gone from our (My & Tony's) vaults forever. But recently, my Atlanta buddy Allen Law provided me again with this brilliant recording, by Karl Speck, of another show from Todd's 'stand' at the Agora Ballroom Atlanta (August 18, 19 & 20 1978). I was at all these dates (early & late shows) and this was an incredible 'Back To The Bars' series. All Todd Rundgren events in Atlanta were sold out in the seventies (and still are to date), so the performances were always almost note perfect and tight...As you'll hear from all these tunes. Unfortunately, 'Can We Still Be Friends' has a tape skip about 2:52 in. I remember Todd's new girlfriend Karen Darvin doing a Ballerina accompaniment. It was a strange surprise...because you figure that 'Hermit' had just come out (April), and we hadn't seen the Midnight Special video of this one yet. Todd kids us about the applause Karen gets, by referring to the wooden slab that she danced on for her number. ‘You Cried Wolf' was new to us too with Todd on Drums. When I heard about 'Back To The Bars' to be released in December I had hoped some of these shows would make an appearance on the double lp. For I think they were much worthy. All performances are good here. It's hard to pick out any one tune in particular to focus on. ESSENTIAL ~ Warren |

8/21/78 | CENTRAL PARK/WOLLMAN RINK NEW YORK CITY | AUDIENCE | 74:07/67:42 |
Date Added:2/27/2020 Track List:CD ONE: REAL MAN. IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. TRAPPED. ABANDON CITY. THE VERB TO LOVE. THE SEVEN RAYS. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS. THE DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL. YOU CRIED WOLF. GANGRENE. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. BLACK MARIA. EASTERN INTRIGUE/INITIATION. CD TWO: COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU. HELLO ITS ME. JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:This was acquired from John Pellerito, but we think this is another audience capture by Mike Strickland. Once again, great (seemingly annual) August event for Todd at the Wollman Rink. Not so bad on the yap factor for being an NYC crowd. And the sound is pretty good for an outdoor audience recording...presents the usual BTTB set with Utopia- you can tell the band is up for it and the taper apparently was up close. An ESSENTIAL historic record~ Tony |

8/23/78 | THE AGORA CLEVELAND OH | FM STEREO SIMULCAST | 98:00 |
Date Added:2/28/2017 Track List:REAL MAN. IT WOULDN’T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.TRAPPED. ABANDON CITY.THE VERB TO LOVE.THE SEVEN RAYS. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS. THE DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL.YOU CRIED WOLF. GANGRENE.LOVE IN ACTION. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS.BLACK MARIA. EASTERN INTRIGUE/INITIATION. COULDN’T I JUST TELL YOU. HELLO IT’S ME.JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:*Update on this one: This one JEMS just threw into the batch of the dozens of Todd Tapes for the heck of it. It's not grand but very decent. It from the age old stereo simulcast of the '78 Agora. Which I don't think is in circulation anywhere, because it was a local broadcast. JEMS tells me some youngster caught it live over his Technec stereo system. (Reciever with FM reception). The tapes themselves are original. But they're so old that I had to 'reshell' both tapes. It sounds as if he did some editing via dual cassette deck. There's some micro second cuts between some of the tracks as if there may have been some commercials or pause for station ID at points that he edited out. Archaic but it worked out. And there's some songs that sound as if 'noise reduction'(NR) was applied. This is all assumption. But for the most part it all streams pretty seamlessly. And most songs sound pretty good. All I did was split the tracks. And Istvan did some 'magic'to The Seven Rays (which was the weakest track out of the bunch). Like I said; I don't think this whole show audio is available in many places so it's rare and 'a keeper' And I think it's ESSENTIAL~ Warren |

8/23/78 | THE AGORA BALLROOM CLEVELAND OH | OH BOY! 2-9153 BOOT ‘CLEVELAND ROCKS’ | 57:00/44:00 |
Date Added:8/9/2020 Track List:8/23/78 DISC ONE: REAL MAN. IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. TRAPPED. ABANDON CITY. THE VERB TO LOVE. THE SEVEN RAYS. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS. THE DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL. YOU CRIED WOLF. GANGRENE. DISC TWO: LOVE IN ACTION. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. BLACK MARIA. EASTERN INTRIGUE/INITIATION. COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU. HELLO IT'S ME. JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:Long Story: For years I’ve been trying to find somebody/anybody who had a GOOD complete version of the WWMS FM (Local Ohio FM and/or TV Broadcast) 1978-08-23 Agora Cleveland OH. Don’t get me wrong; we have bits and pieces of quality Audio (but not the whole show). I must have four or five versions of complete audio and video, but nothing grand. And the JEMS guys were helpful with a little bit of really good parts and pieces of Pro-grade stuff. I mean we have so much Bottom Line & Roxy trophies. Why not Agora Cleveland? You may have it, but the Archives didn’t. My search was fruitless. And I just plain gave up asking and looking. THEN, get this: I’m in a Used and Sell Local Record Store a few days ago… And they had the OH BOY! CD boot ‘Cleveland Rocks’. However, I had been warned (forever) that it was just a copy of much of ‘Back To The Bars’. And the OH BOY! Track listing on the Product tells me such. What the hell, I bought it for $5.00. Just for collection/posterity reasons. Even the Discs read ‘Cleveland’ with supposed 11 tracks on each. So what the fudge, I gave them a listen. But Disc One showed 11 tracks and Disc Two has only 7. As I’m listening… I’m thinking… damn, this is a great Boot! Then I realized, almost immediately, I was listening to 1978-08-23 Agora Cleveland OH! Son of a beeyatch! I know Todd’s banter in between songs for this Show too. So I know what I got. “…Is This Eden Oklahoma? No It’s Cleveland Ohio!...”. Now I’m happy. Like I said, ya’ll may have a great version, and didn’t tell me. But the Archives did not. The Show IS the 1978-08-23 Agora Cleveland OH complete for the most part. There are some barely noticeable hiccups, skips (especially ‘Abandon City’), humming, peak amplitude spikes and weird Track splits (maybe WWMS-FM did that). But the Performance is all in order. No fade ins & fade outs. And no complete/total clipping out amplitutude as with most CDs. This is absolutely ESSENTIAL!~ Warren |

DAY OF THE ROCK N' ROLL (DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL). FUNKY DETROIT MADNESS (YOU CRIED WOLF). CAN'T BE SATISFIED (GANGRENE). MY DREAM LIVES ON FOREVER (A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER). PLEASE LET ME GO (BLACK MARIA) Note:The crazy 70s Boot vinyl, that most of us oldtimers have, that is obviously the product of someone who doesn't know shit about Todd. The titles are funny. The record has the encyclopedia of rock listing for Todd and gang and the "Another Live" inside shot on front. It also says 3/29/49! This is not Todds Bday, so we dont know what thats about. Probably comes from the same place "Philadelphia" or "Funky Detroit Madness" did. Nevertheless, this is a classic and long overdue addition to the Todd stash.~ Tony |

Note:As any fan knows, this tour damn near yielded great FM broadcasts in every city they hit. This was the last show of the tour before Todd went to Europe with the Tubes to generate excitement about the upcoming Remote Control recording sessions. Very low generation (1st gen?). Roger really eats it up on this one, great solos on Abandon City and Seven Rays. This also may be the only time time Todd has ever referred to himself as the "Runt" (before You Cried Wolf).~ Tony |

It's Jared's audience recording MASTER Tape. Whole Show. And I think is pretty good quality. A little muddy. I basically split the tracks and played with the levels a little. I don't want to be on the radar again from sharing 1978 shows by the Rundgren Organization, but what the hell. I have few more from Jared. Mostly Late Shows for two nights at the Royal Oak in Detroit in'78. Do me a favor, and believe me - you don't have to, but keep these close to your vest. No global circulation please. ~ Warren P.S. The band is not on fire as usual here. I don't know what it is. Tell me what you think. Was this just a 'let's do this gig at get out of here'? Even Todd's banter sounds like he tired. Small crowd left for this Late show too...sounds like. When I did the Atlanta shows they herded us out like cattle if we didn't have second show tickets. THE DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. BLACK AND WHITE. EASTERN INTRIGUE. INITIATION. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. Note:A nameless Fan sent this to me. I tried to re-eq some (to good effect) to add to the archive project. The sound is clear, but sounds to me as if it there was a large limiter somewhere in the process. It gets markedly (its not really ever that bad) better after Death of R-n-R. This is an "in stride" performance from the band at their peak (in my opinion). Because of the gig schedule, I dont think the band ever again played as well as they did on this tour with this material, etc. Here is a very good (but old) line recording that serves up a couple of ass whippin versions Black & White and Initiation... just to show everyone how its supposed to be played, and to remind everyone that Utopia WAS THE best live performing band of that era- gig after gig- night after night.~ Tony |

DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL. YOU CRIED WOLF. GANGRENE. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. BLACK MARIA Note:This is a bootleg CD- which means someone did the thing themselves, makes it look like official product and then sells it for cash with no money going to the artist...not a good thing. It sounds great like all the 78 Bcasts do... missing probably a tune or two from the show. Nice on the artwork. Evidently, this is part of series of illegal shows for sale- they probably all sound good (as this one is excellent), but I have absolutely nothing to do with it.~ Tony |

INITIATION.COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU.HELLO IT'S ME.JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:First and foremost, this is not the 1978-10-17 One Block West KC recording that is currently 'out there' in circulation. That is a local radio broadcast of the first set that night. THIS IS A MAGNIFICENT audience recording (MASTER Tape) of the second Show by Geoff Laurenzo. I know that I use the term 'soundboardish' a lot... but this a 'pro-grade' recording. What's funny is this was an old dirty broken cassette Geoff had just recently relocated. And asked me to see what I could do with it. I did have to put it in a new cassette shell. A labor of love, for I had to do little to this one other than leveling the channels and splitting the tracks. All performances are flawless, unfortunately we only get a small portion of the show due to only one tape. And Geoff had inadvertently recorded over some of it with other artists. But I'm very excited about what we have here and being able to share this 'Back To The Bars' Era recording. This one is ESSENTIAL. Thank you Geoff Laurenzo for 'striking' once again with a collectors gem!You can even listen to it featured in it's entirety on RundgrenRadio ~ Warren |

Note:These two Late '78 shows; The above 1978-10-26 Royal Oak Theatre Detroit (Late Show) & this 1978-10-27 Royal Oak Theatre Detroit (Late Show) are from my JEMS collection (recorded by Jared/RIP. His MASTER Tapes). And very unlike Jared's other recordings, these suffer much. Both recorded from a distance it seems. Royal Oak Theatre seats 1700 and Jared must have been further to the back maybe (which makes for a lot of audience interference)? I've spent hours trying to edit these and bring some life into them really to no avail. Just not much can be done to improve the quality. I guess they are what they are. So these presentations are just 4 long tack (two each). Side A and Side B of both tapes. No track splitting.Having said all that, they are very listenable. And fun listens.Great to have for posterity and historic record.~ Warren |

DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL. YOU CRIED WOLF. GANGRENE. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. BLACK MARIA. CD TWO: EASTERN INTRIGUE. INITIATION. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. HELLO ITS ME. JUST ONE VICTORY. FM OUTRO. Note:I did this '78 DC show because my friends were there. The Bayou is gone now, and it was a great performance. The sound is good, but not perfect due to a noisy line coming from the radio station but it is FM and is actually quite good for the most part. From my small hometown of Keyser WV, we packed the place with close to 50 of the crew... but not me... I heard the show at home due to an important college assignment. I can hear my name called out when Todd talks about the broadcast, and can hear friends I know/knew to this day. What a trip. Roger really has a terrific soloing night, as he did often in these days-the dueling solos on Oops shows was what this band was all about. The effort Todd gives vocally was always there..not even on a bad night could you ever say Todd wasnt trying in these days..the band always left it on the stage with effort. Kazim hits a peak on Verb and Initiation (playing wise). Gangrene is a mess as usual during what Todd called " a pointless ego trip to prove why we play what we do"... This switching of instruments would soon end. Another great thing about this is the post show; where it is revealed all shows are sold out for days to come. The energy is high, as said above; and the usual kick of Initiation into CIJTY is higher than normal octane. Todd talks about the his Papal wishes weirdly in connection with a Dream Goes On Forever... and the crowd chants "thai stick" before Black Maria.~ Tony |

I don't think anybody (traders) even knew it was 'out there. It is the LAST Show of 1978 (Dec 31st at Uptown Chicago postponed due to a blizzard)! This age old cassette needed all kinds of channel corrections... that I think were on the Fan's 'recording equipment side'(how can somebody screw up a FM recording?). It's 'unscrewed' now! We're missing 'Real Man'... and 'It Wouldn't have Made Any Difference' jumps right in, and is alittle on the rough side. I did some speed correction to it all and just wee bit of re-mastering this thing. I didn't want to do too much, as to preserve the integrity of the recording (I left the 'Station ID' in). There's a slight hum that I could not get out of Side A. Hardly noticeable. I think it's from the Radio Station's Equipment. Having said all that; this FM now sounds pretty damn good! Seems we're missing 'Just One Victory' too, but I love all tunes that were captured. And I love Todd's humorous 'banter' here. I'm very very happy with how this Show turned out and I think that it is ESSENTIAL!~ Warren |
