Date Added:9/3/2020 Track List:SIDE 1:COMMUNION WITH THE SUN.SUNBURST FINISH.JEALOUSY.SIDE 2:WINDOWS.AN UNRELEASED CUT (AKA: EMERGENCY SPASHDOWN).THE VERB TO LOVE.HIROSHIMA. Note:Todd Rundgren's Utopia Oxford Polythechnic Oxford England January 25 1977. I remember like yesterday; Atlanta's 96Rock-FM Broadcasting this one. I wasn't forewarned as usual, and couldn't catch grabbing it in time off the Radio with my Receiver. It's, to this day, one of my favorite Shows. So you can imagine my excitement when I found this Boot Vinyl at my Local Record Store. One of the first Boots of Todd that I bought in the very late 70s? And as always the case with Bootleggers; the Songs are usually misspelled ('Emergency Splashdown' is titled 'An Unreleased Cut'), and Track running order is different than the actual event (or they leave out something. Here they leave out the second song 'Love of The Common Man'). As I do with my old Todd vinyl Boots; I buy 2 (One To play & One to keep Virgin). So I ripped the unplayed one recently, to make a presentable CD. I still use My Brother's (RIP) trusty Technics Turntable. With new needle assembly. And it has a weight on the end of the arm that you can adjust for older vinyl if you need to silence 'run on' & 'run off' noise (and between tracks). You also can control to many different RPMs. I rip it directly through my Desktop using Adobe Audition. And Soundforge as a stand by editor. The result is 'super clean' phonics. As was this one. However, during 'Hiroshima' at about 1:38 in; "...Who Held The Button Under His Hand..." Repeats and it's not a skip from my turntable. Believe me. That's from the Bootlegger's source that they used. It just very sentimental nice to have this on my Trophy CD shelves now~ Warren |

2/77 | 'RA' SHOW PREAMBLE/INTRO MUSIC | VARIOUS (STUDIO & CONCERT) | 15:00 |
Date Added:6/14/2016 Track List:MAGIC DRAGON THEATRE (PRESENTED AS VIDEO).LOVE REUNION.PIPELINE.SWEET LITTLE SUZIE. UNTITLED INSTUMENTAL INTRO. Note:This is kind of just something fun that I made. Starting around maybe February of 1977, Utopia began using this pre-show music. Before the band started the opening number (‘Communion With The Sun’), they would play, over the PA system, the above numbers… warming up to the show in all its music, glory and theatrics. ‘Magic Dragon’ was presented first in a video on screen, and followed was rare & unreleased ‘Love Reunion’ (this track, was finally on Kaz’ s 2002 ‘Quid Pro Quo’ solo…where Utopia’s version appeared on the album). I found ‘Pipeline’ from Kevin Christian’s tapes of rarities (And it’s an ‘unreleased’ from the ‘Disco Jets’ project, I believe). ‘Sweet Little Suzie’, and the’ Instrumental’ track, are both from Utopia’s 1977-02-01 excellent audience recording, from the first night, at the New Victoria in London (I just removed the crowd noise). The unnamed instrumental is culled from Isao Tomita's treatment of a classical piece of music. Very rare then and very rare now. ESSENTIAL for serious collectors~ Warren |

SINGRING AND TNE GLASS GUITAR. BOOGIES (HAMBURGER HELL). JUST ONE VICTORY Note:This one came from Frank Bubnick, and is clearly from somebody else's re-producted cassettes. Very interesting set list, each song fades in and out (by whoever dubbed it & tracked it).The sound is somewhat distant but still is listenable, and is important for it includes Love Reunion (in the pre-show video/music). Nice addition to see where they were before they came to the US.~ Warren |

Note:Thanks Gary for sending this one to us. A strange Ikon intro... Emergency Splashdown is strange, and so is playing Boogies instead of CIJTY. Then Death of Rock n Roll is in a strange slot, and is absolutely pedestrian - very slow -. May have been when it was first whipped back out with Kaz singing it...anyway-it is neat, and this is (as verified by Todd in banter) the last show of the spring warm up gigs. Yes,the sound is super. Complete as can be from the source himself. ESSENTIAL~ Warren |

Note:Pretty 'wobbly' audience recording for most the cassette (2 sides). But for some reason some tunes came out better and are well worth a listen, and keeping on file. So Tony only digitally transferred those (and they are in bold in the tracklist above). Actually, with a little work, these few good tracks could come out very good. So this show is here in the archives basically just for posterity, because the band's 'performance' is great (Except for the exceptionaly long "Eternal Love'.The lengthy beginning instrumental.Todd's Saxaphone playing leaves alot to be desired...which is rare)~ Warren |

SINGRING AND THE GLASS GUITAR. UTOPIA THEME. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:This one too is special, 'cause of the decently recorded preamble music. These intro tunes would be nice to turn up on a rarities collection (thanks to Kazim for including it on his 'Quid' release as a hidden track - Love Reunion). Sweet Little Suzie quotes the melody from Hoi Polloi 3 years before it was recorded. An expanded hometown setlist compared to the Atlanta (below)..but Atlanta is better soundwise, and this one has some yap. But is nice due to the unobscured appearance of the intro tunes and the unlikely performance of Ikon & Emergency Splashdown..thanks again to Hiroshi~ Tony |

Note:This one's MASTERFUL! My third transfer from the (now mine) Todd Rundgren JEMS cassette collection. Labeled as the MASTER tape. And I believe that. I knew Jared (the Taper) briefly, before he passed away last year. This is probably one of the best (if not THE best) 70s audience recordings I have ever heard. By any Band. I use the term 'soundboardish' frequently, and this is as close to being a soundboard as you can imagine. If I didn't know, for a fact, that it is an audience recording: I would think this was a very good pre-FM capture or a board tape. It's that good. Kind of reminds me of the partial show 1977-01-26 Oxford England Broadcast by BBC/KBFH. I've had a copy of this audience show for decades, and my copy must be a several generation dub (or another source?). It is nothing compared to this sound and quality. So I'm proud to have this. You can put some headphones on. And while listening, it will take you to front row center of the Detroit Masonic Temple March 17th 1977. It even sounds as if you could be sitting beside Willie. His drums (and especially cymbals) are prominant here. It's the entire 157 minute show, with the full 30 minute Singring recorded... as well as an excellent capture of the PA system playing the 'RA Preamble'/Introductory music of: Magic Dragon Theatre (a video presentation), Love Reunion, Pipeline, Sweet Little Susie and an untitled Instrumental culled from Isao Tomita's treatment of a classical piece of music. Highlights? Every track is a 'highlight'! My treatment to it was simply making it stereo by Audition's Stereo Expander Tool. And try to repair all the 'slips, skips & spikes'. This is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL for all serious Todd Collectors. I can't say more. ~ Warren |

Only one tape/two sides. However (…and I guess there had to be a couple of three ‘Howevers’), this one listed here just for posterity and listing purposes. For it suffers much. It’s barely listenable, and thus we cannot edit it. It’s just not fixable, no matter how much we ‘shake, wiggle or dance’ it. Distortion throughout, and foremost the vocals PA System. There’s just too much distorted PA System captured here for that matter... the words are barely audible. Audience yelling and applause distorted as well. But we’ll keep it here in the Archives just the same. But that’s OK, for there’s several more of Geoff’s tapes that the acoustic are marvelous. AND I THANK HIM SOOOOOOO MUCH FOR THAT. Lots more good ones to come.~ Warren |

Note:This one here just for ‘listing purposes’ and it’s ‘historic record’. Another MASTERaudience recording by Geoff Laurenzo. One of the weaker of Geoff's 'grabs. I don't know that Geoff did such a bad job on this one though. I think it has a lot to do with the audience/fans are going nuts here, and the frenzy takes muchly away from the phonics. It is a 'keeper' though, and a we get the show in it's entirety. 2.7 Hours (2 full 90 minute side tapes). So we can really appreciate Geoff's efforts. The Pre-logue video sequence ('Magic Dragon Theatre'/'Love Reunion'/'Pipeline '78' and 'Sweet Little Suzie') are barely recognizable however. We couldn't do much other than work on pitch, some of the levels and Split tracks though out this show. 'It is what it is'. Worthy of note here is that we get the full 'Singring' and a very very extended performance of 'Eternal Love'...again, with a full compliment of surprise instrumentals (Todd on Sax for one). We'll work on this one some more at a later date, for we still have a Box of Geoff's MASTERS to go through. Could we have a better problem?....chuckle chuck~ Warren |

Note:Another audience capture from Rick Laurenzo's MASTERS (2 cassettes/4 sides). But this one is hard to figure. The sound is none to good on most tracks, but some they are fair. It is very listenable. From all the audible commotion at the beginning of the first tape, it sounds a if there was some audience rowdiness that delayed the show and aborted the the first tune 'Communion With The Sun'. So we'll keep this one in the 'vaults' just for posterity, and 'listing purposes' only. There was not much that I could do with it.... for there are far too many peaks and valleys throughout and the right channel was almost non existant. Having said all that, there's some songs from this 'RA' period either weren't performed or aborted. Missing (in order) That I know of would be: 'Communion With The Sun', 'When The Shit Hits The Fan starts prematurely....and the last two numbers : 'Utopia' and 'Just One Victory' are missing. I'd like to thank Geoff for his hardship to record this anyway! From what i mention at the beginning of this entry, it's hard to tell what the announcer is saying, what Todd is saying and what appears to be Geoff saying something about objects being thrown in the 13th row. O Well. So I guess this is still a rarity right? 119 Minutes of show.~ Warren |

UTOPIA. JUST ONE VICTORY. BONUS: POST SHOW INTERVIEW IN THE BLUE ROOM AT THE FAMOUS FOX THEATRE(17 MINS) Note:*Tony said (in 2003),"This is a very strong audience recording with little to zero yap. Jealousy is real strong and the jazz/acid tinged Eternal Love center section has a lot of trippy echo on it... and the tune is over ten minutes long...at the old Fox Theatre. Gave Warren credit for the recording on a Sony compact cassette recorder/player. How it surfaced in Japan he/we do not know! Hiroshi transfered it to digital. Thanks my friends~ Tony" I decided to get out my MASTER and see what 'area beautification' I could do to it. I always felt it held so much promise (though be it recorded with my primitive Sony Walkman TC-D4)...that maybe it just needed a tweak here and there. With some more Adobe Audition under my belt, I made some drastic changes. First and foremost, I corrected the speed/tempo. Then I added what Audition calls 'Stereo Separation'. With the unique Graphic Equalizer (and they have a great one, with as many bands as you need) I brought the vocals more out front. And when I did that it, it made the instrumentation sharper. There's a few other tweaks but (and I'm not bragging), what I came out with was much 'soundboard' like phonics without clipping with the decibels. And Audition has a feature for that too with their 'Master Gain'. My finished product, I am much proud of. Thanks to several batteries and as many as necessary blank cassettes, I caught the whole show, without any tape flip gaps. Everybody next to me behaved as well, Hardly any yap. ESSENTIAL~ Warren |

Note:The age old date and venue information that we have is contradicting on this one. Istvan and I have been trying to add some history & timelines up on it. And have come to the likely conclusion that this is possibly a show that was rescheduled (Boston Orpheum May 7th was rescheduled to May 17th) to be a first show at The Palladium in New York on May 7th. The second show being on May 8th (see entry below). For we have copies of ticket stubs to reflect some of this. The biggest key to the confusion is; This is a KBFH recording, and they have two different presentations of it. One on Radio DJ presentation >'KBFH Promotion Spot for July 31 1977', listing it as 'The Palladium' (with 'Communion With The Sun'/'The Last Ride'/'Jealousy' & 'Couldn't I just Tell You') and another on official CD release 'King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents Todd Rundgren Live' (Concert Series # BO4YNEY), listing it as 'Schaffer (mispelled) Music Festival' (with 'The Last Ride'/'Eastern Intrigue'/'Love of the Common Man' & 'Couldn't I Just Tell You'). And then Jon Risen's KBFH version of it has an additional 'The Ikon'/'Freedom Fighters'! It makes sense to us that this is the first night of two (May 7 & 8 1977) at the Palladium in New York on May 7th 1977. Right or wrong, it is wonderful to have worked with Istvan on this, and we have now 8 performances of excellent soundboard from this show.~ Warren |

SINGRING AND THE GLASS GUITAR (CUTS OUT AFTER BREAKING THE GUITAR). Note:And just when we thought we had enough good ones from Geoff Laurenzo, here's another MASTERpiece! Yes, I took this directly from his MASTER audience cassettes and did no editing other than level a little & split tracks. It's that good. This ones from the 2nd night at the Palladium in New York City, and we have a good portion of this show in my 'Archives' of a great FM Broadcast (Soundboard) provided by Frank Bubnick. But this...THIS is an audience grab that is as close to a soundboard as you can get. A very few miniscure flaws and some talking. Sure we're missing alittle bit (see below) of the show here, but that's alright by me. What a job Geoff, and THANK YOU! ESSENTIAL~ Warren Probably missing all the preshow 'hoopla' Intro: 'Love Reunion','Pipeline'and 'Sweet Little Suzie'. And as maybe the end/encore numbers: 'Utopia' (Theme), 'Couldn't I Just Tell You' and 'Just One Victory'. But not recorded. Ya’ll would still love this up. Good Gawd, they cook for 'Heavy Metal Kids'! And Kas belts it out during 'Eternal Love' (some surprise intrumentals in there too!) Master (3) tapes. Recorded with portable Sony TC-42 tape deck |

COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU .JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:He's (Jared)/I've done it again with another SPECTACULAR 1977 at The Masonic Temple in Detroit. We've had a decent version of this tape for decades that we inadvertently gave credit to Brian Tapp (in another post here) for some reason. This was recorded by Jared (RIP) with JEMS. Again it's his MASTER. So I killed that old post from 5 years ago.(and I apologize to Joe Franks , because he did his usual 'magic; to the mess that I gave him. It was this show, but several copies/generations old. (I'll save his version for those who are still inclined to have it). Soooo... this my fourth installment from the (now mine) Todd Rundgren JEMS cassette collection. Another MASTER tape(s) by Jared (RIP) And this one is 8 months later at the same venue. The band introduces much 'Oops Wrong Planet' here this time. Released in September of 1977 (RA was released in February). So what they did for these new 'Oops' shows was, darken the 'RA' props (The Pyramid and Morris the Sphinx head.) And appeared in blue jeans and tshirts and no chrome Ankh guitars. They played much of the new 'Oops' album in this fashion. Then a brief intermission, and they came back out with the 'Eastern Intrigue' outfits and the 'RA' set in all it's effects , lights and glory. And played a couple of the 'RA' standouts and other killer songs. This sounds very much quality-wise as the first Masonic '77 show. Yes that's right. Except, with a little more audience yap here. It sounds like a 'board Tape! And the Band is on fire! So I'm proud to share this with you. Put some headphones on. And while listening, again, it will take you to front row center of the Detroit Masonic Temple October 16 1977. The whole thing is up front and in your face. I believe It's the entire 130 minute show, with the full 30 minute Singring recorded. Again, my treatment to it was, simply making it stereo by Audition's Stereo Expander Tool. And try to repair all the 'slips, cuts, skips & spikes'(which there were many). This one too is ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL for all serious Todd Collectors. I can't say more. ~ Warren Recorded With Advent Dynamic Microphones > Sony Tc-153sd Cassette Recorder |

THE DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL. COMMUNION WITH THE SUN. SUNSET BOULEVARD. THE LAST RIDE. GANGRENE. MY ANGEL. THE SEVEN RAYS. HEAVY METAL KIDS. SINGRING AND THE GLASS GUITAR (partial). SINGRING AND THE GLASS GUITAR (contd). UTOPIA THEME. LOVE IS THE ANSWER. COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU. JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:The complete show. Quality is consistent for the most part. As good as an old FM gets, from what we believe is one of the best surviving tapes of this event. It’s a little on the ‘treble’ side though. A awesome 'RA/Oops Wrong planet' Show. And you gotta love 'My Angel' (with Todd on Sax) in these sets! But there is an official version currently available retail (Japan Archive Series CRCL-7709/10). Go get it. Some of the on-line retail houses have it.~ Warren |

Note:Another from Geoff Laurenzo's 'goodie bag' of MASTER audience recordings. But this one records off kind of wierd. The 'Oops Wrong Planet' set quality is weak. But the set afterwards is brilliant for the most part (from 'Communion With The Sun' and onward). As all of you know, on the 'Oops' leg of the 1977 Tour; the Band comes out in blue jeans and T-shirts to do most the new album. Then there was a brief intermission. And then they come out to perform with the Eyptian 'RA' Theatrics with The custom instruments, Middle-eastern garb, 'Morris' the laser Sphinx head...and the Pyramid and light show in all it's glory (as they did at the beginning of the year's Tour). Welllllll....in the 'Oops' set of this recording, there is lots of chatter and the it sounds 'distant'. But then again the rest of it is wonderful. But don't get me wrong, you'll love this recording. And I think it is rare and ESSENTIAL for your 'Collection shelf.~ Warren And thanks so much to the those Laurenzo Brothers! I think we get the whole show here with the exception of The Intro Music (The 'Utopia Bolero') and three tunes 'cut in' short. (They did sneak in 'My Angel' in some shows in October & November 1977 However) |

Note:Another nice one (audience) from Geoff Laurenzo. Unfortunately this one is a small part of the show, for he inadvertently recorded something over much of it. It's strange, because we have very few 'uninterupted' good audience 'Oops Wrong Planet' Shows. For the confusion of the 'Oop Wrong Planet' set at the beginning of these shows threw tapers off (and with the length of 'Singring' made it tough to grab on 90 minute cassettes). But that OK, what we have from Geoff here is very nice. Willie's feature 'Gangrene' is a little weak and 'Singring' is a puzzle to put together...but again the rest is nice. I figure that we're missing (in order performed): The Intro, Trapped, Marriage of Heaven and Hell, Abandon City, Love of The Common man, Back On The Street, Black & White, Crazy Lady Blue, Love In Action, The Death of Rock and Roll, Intermission music (Overture: Mountain Top and Sunrise), Communion With The Sun, When The Shit Hits The Fan/Sunset Blvd./Le Feel Internacional and The Last Ride. And that's a lot! But I'm very thankful to Geoff's generosity still, in sharing these MASTERS with me to digitally transfer for TR Historic Record~ Warren |

The quality on this one isn't at all what is usually expected from his tapings. It's listenable, but very much distant and weak. There's just nothing I can do with this one to 'beautify' it (except split the tracks). I know when I'm licked...chuckle...chuck... It is the full 'Oops Wrong Planet' show however, and we'll just put her down as rare and store it for TR Historic Record. But very much thanks to Geoff for always sharing his MASTERS with us once again.~ Warren |

Note:It seems, this year (2014), that a Dutch Fan, Hans de Vente, digitized his FM recording of this 1977-11-11 show Re-broadcast in February of 1978. Then a TTD member, propylaen, took it one step further by "chapterizing and normalizing Hans' tracks and did some other minor editing (removed a few pops, made the between song edits less jarring by getting the volume levels closer to each track)." So what we have here is a excellent sounding historic record! ESSENTIAL~ Warren |

TODD & ROGER INTERVIEW
Note:Todd talks about the concept/length of his first solo Projects. And in every interview pretty much, he talks about that his solo projects are what he's feeling musically at time, and not necessarily mainstream. Roger talks about his Solo work, when he worked for Aarp, and how he met Todd, and how he joined Utopia. They both talk about the current Theatrical Show. The Pyramid, and how the Title 'Oops Wrong Planet' came about. The Interviewer seems to want to talk mainly about Todd. |

Note:My buddy Frank Bubnick says, "This is cool, you're gonna love it. A BINAURAL show from the 5th row center. Remember binaural? That was the system that utilized microphones mounted on a pair of headphones. The intention was to record live events in the same manner that humans heard them. The CD's were mastered by Sandra Winters from the original tapes recorded by Laine Harris. The binaural effect is very cool. It works very well with headphones or speakers placed very closely together. Sounds like the crowd surrounds you. Much of the sound was captured directly off of the stage. Sound quality is pretty good, it's the binaural effect that really kicks on this one. Awesome 'Oops ' set" |

LOVE IS THE ANSWER.COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU.JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:So you may be getting weary of this amount of new "Oops Wrong Planet" audience recordings showing up as of recent from me. But these recordings of Geoff Laurenzo's MASTERS are very much worthy of any serious Todd rarities collector's shelf. And this one is good. REAL good. A very 'soundboardish'(is that a word?) capture of a very electric night. In fact a New Years Eve night, that takes us into 1978. The Band is Pro-tight and sounds like they're enjoying themselves quite a bit. At some points Cleveland comes 'unglued'! I think we're missing 'My Angel'... and a small beginning portion of 'Seven Rays'and a very small portion of 'Singring' due to tapers 'flip'. But for the most part, it's all here. Sure, I had to use my editing prowess again, but minimally. The instruments are clear and the vocals are up front and in your face. So you could put some headphones on (and a party hat) and go sit in a seat what must be near the front of the theatre. Cause ya gotta figure Richfield Coliseum was huge! And you would turn it up! YOU WILL ENJOY THIS ONE~ Warren P.S. Once again, I'd like to reach out to the Laurenzo Bros. and thank them for taking us through the seventies with all these great audience tapings (for what seems all over the Mid-Western US). And don't ya'll fret 'cause there's a few more. So stay tuned. |
