1976 | JEAN-YVES LABAT 'UNDERWATER ELECTRONIC ORCHESTRA' | LP TRANSFER CHRIS 'RAZZ" | 33:00 |
Date Added:1/12/2019 Track List:MATRIX 16.U-BOAT.LITTLE DRUMMER BOY.ORBIT.SUBTRONICK.LE VOYEUR.CASH.THE FLIGHT OF KROMAK 3.MATRIX. Note:Very obsure Album, which extends the synthesized sound of Jean Yves Labat’s (M. Frog) 1973 ‘M. Frog’. It was recorded at Utopia Sound in Woodstock. Did Todd have any participation in it? We don’t know. Though it is full of mellow synthesized sounds a/o music, this a uncomfortable Album for me to sit and listen straight through the 33 Minutes. However, it is very interesting to sample it from time to time. It’s so eclectic and sounds like an experiment. Very thankful to Chis Razz for his copy though!~ Warren |

6/22/76 | CIVIC CENTER SPRINGFIELD MA | AUDIENCE (TRANSFER/EQ WARREN) | 80:00 |
Date Added:9/23/2012 Track List:TUNING. OVERTURE/COMMUNION WITH THE SUN. WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN/SUNSET BLVD./LE FEEL INTERNACIONALE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. BLACK & WHITE. THE LAST RIDE. EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN. THE SEVEN RAYS (CUTS OUT). BOOGIES/HAMBURGERS FROM HELL. HIROSHIMA. SINGRING & THE GLASS GUITAR. DO YA. Note:A short show, but it seems to be the entire performance on one cassette. A great recording from someone in the crowd (apparently close to the stage). I just did a minor EQ myself. We don’t have much from 1976, so this is pretty cool! Lots of 'RA'.~ Warren |

6/26/76 | THE SILVER DOME PONTIAC MI | AUDIENCE (TRANSFER TO DIGITAL WARREN) | 90:00 |
Date Added:9/23/2012 Track List:OVERTURE/COMMUNION WITH THE SUN. WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN SUNSET BLVD. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. THE SEVEN RAYS. THE VERB TO LOVE. EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN. FREEDOM FIGHTERS. HEAVY METAL KIDS. JEALOUSY. HIROSHIMA. SINGRING & THE GLASS GUITAR.DO YA. Note:A decent audience recording...but another 'boomy' one...and distortion. Good news is that we all know that the Silverdome is a humongous venue , yet this recording does not have that 'distance' sound to it. I did a low level dub to digital to relieve some of the loudness. Short set but full of energy. The crowd is estatic. A real Bicentenial celebration.~ Warren |

7/6/76 | SCHAEFER MUSIC FESTIVAL CENTRAL PARK NEW YORK NY | AUDIENCE (UPGRADE BY JON RISEN) | 119:00 |
Date Added:7/12/2017 Track List:OVERTURE/COMMUNION WITH THE SUN. WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN SUNSET BLVD. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. THE SEVEN RAYS. THE VERB TO LOVE. BAND INTRODUCTION. EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN.BLACK & WHITE. THE WHEEL.REAL MAN.INITIATION. MR. TRISCUITS. SOMETHING'S COMING. HEAVY METAL KIDS. JEALOUSY. HIROSHIMA .SINGRING & THE GLASS GUITAR. DO YA. JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:This time it’s Central Park 1976. Evidence tells us this was a show originally scheduled on July 3rd...but rained out and rescheduled for the 6th. Todd loves the place and the place loves Todd. All these Central Park shows are absolute treasures for us. I digitally transferred the age old first generation (three sides) tapes and handed it all over to my buddy Joe Franks for editing. The value he added to this audience recording is amazing. Two hours of Utopia. Joe says, “It starts out with Communion, and I fixed up the beginning. But it's kind of weird at first. As we settle into Communion, sound quality starts to improve somewhat. Then Sunset Blvd and the tape starts to seem better, smile on my face....rock on!... We get a memorable intro into the first verse of LOTCM, then Seven Rays, where Willie forgets on the synth break. The vocals are pretty loud at times; also the crowd/claps have been another issue that I've fixed quite a bit. The Verb To Love is one of my old faves. The tape flip has been removed, and the edit… well… something crafty there. Then a band intro with ‘the brand-new-still' Kasim. He's been great so far...in Emergency Splashdown, there must be a complete band timing trip up in the 2nd chorus, however they get it together and the synth solo is cool. By this point, the show & the tape hit its real stride, and is enjoyable the rest of the way. Real Man has the 'ya-ya-yaa-ya' and woo-woo-woo-woo backing at the end ala '75. Initiation comes along, and all the sudden I levitate and float over the audience... not really, but it's that jamming- highlight of the tape for me. Stay for Mr. Triscuits-Something's Coming-Heavy Metal Kids-Jealousy...and another early Singring. The yap is only around at certain points, not too distracting. The taper just has tape enough for the encores, until there's a fade out at towards the end of JOV. The Trip is quite EPIC! I think the sound settles in. Outdoor rec's seem to be tougher sometimes. To me, it's an overall pretty solid audie...EQ'd/tracked/tweaked - here it is! “ This one is just plain ESSENTIAL. Thank you Joe! *2017-07-11 Update: Jon Risen took this one to another level for us recently . Says Jon, “ I EQ'd this, got rid of most of the hiss, and added some clarity to the high end”. Not that Joe’s version was not bad (in fact it's great), it needed just what ‘Mojorisen’ did to it. And a wonderful upgrade. Thank you Jon! ~ Warren |

7/8/76 | GRAND VALLEY STATE COLLEGE DOME GRAND RAPIDS MI | AUDIENCE (TAPEBOY) | 130:00 |
Date Added:8/20/2014 Track List:DISC ONE: COMMUNION WITH THE SUN. WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN/SUNSET BLVD. /LE FEEL INTERNACIONALE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN. SEVEN RAYS. THE VERB TO LOVE. EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN. BLACK AND WHITE. THE WHEEL. INITIATION. REAL MAN. LANDMARK. DISC TWO: MR. TRISCUITS. SOMETHING'S COMING. HEAVY METAL KIDS. JEALOUSY. HIROSHIMA. SINGRING AND THE GLASS GUITAR. FREEDOM FIGHTERS. DO YA. JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:This one will surprise you that it is an audience recording. Sounds very much like a Pre-FM or a soundboard. One of those classic shows that has circulated forever in trading circles. Our copy is from the master cassettes (from a fellow only known as Tapeboy) that surfaced in 1979. This is a grand recording, and probably the best live recording we have from 1976! Todd Rundgren’s Utopia didn’t tour as commercially in 1976 as previous years and at this point were introducing ‘RA” into their sets (which hadn’t been released yet), and Kasim was the ‘brand new’ addition. So Todd fans were probably a little bit surprised (and pleasantly) during these shows. They were to perform a month later at The Knebworth Festival (see entry below). And critics acclaim that it was one of the best performances of the Festival. And of course 1977 would be a momentous year and tour supporting RA for Utopia. So we don’t have many recordings from 1976 in our collection. This was digitally enhanced and cleaned by Paul Russo. This one will knock your socks off for sure! Full concert. ESSENTIAL~Warren |

7/13/76 | MISSISSIPPI FESTIVAL SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY EDWARDSVILLE IL | AUDIENCE (PARTIAL) | 46:00 |
Date Added:3/25/2017 Track List:HAPPENINGS TEN YEARS TIME AGO.THE WHEEL.HEAVY METAL KIDS.BOOGIES (HAMBURGER HELL).HIROSHIMA.SING & THE GLASS GUITAR. Note:Lost in my own vaults until now. It was in with my 1975 Cape Cod Arena discs. This audience has promise. It was amplified too much. Fixed that. Next we reduced the bass and some of the treble hiss. We just had to fix something, because the band is on fire here. Unfortunately these 6 performances are all we have. Man, we're missing so much. See the set list for 7/15/76 below.~ Warren |

Date Added:3/6/2016 Track List:COMMUNION WITH THE SUN.WHEN THE SH*T HITS THE FAN/SUNSET BLVD/LE FEEL INTERNACIONALE. LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.THE SEVEN RAYS.THE VERB TO LOVE.EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN. HAPPENINGS TEN YEARS TIME AGO.THE WHEEL.HEAVY METAL KIDS.BOOGIES (HAMBURGER HELL). HIROSHIMA.SINGRING INTRO SNIPPETT (ONLY 32 SECONDS OF IT).SINGRING AND THE GLASS GUITAR. FREEDOM FIGHTERS.DO YA. JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:Wow Oh wow wow! Some more 'magic' done by Rick Laurenzo's brother Geoff (as he was recording shows all over the Midwest it seems). This audience recording (Again the MASTER Tapes and never in circulation...until now) is once again, a brilliant one. Not a heck of a lot of editing on my part either. I believe we get the whole show. By this time, you know, they were just called Utopia (as opposed to Todd Rundgren's Utopia). And this was one of Kasim's first shows where he had replaced John Siegler. The fans at this show not only got to hear Kasim's wonderful accent to the band, but they hear some of the new album 'RA' before it had hit the shelves and they see the band all dressed in their Egyptian/'Eastern Intrigue' garb (but no Pyramid or Morris/the Sphinx Head yet). Some incredible harmonies here folks. I can go sit in the first few rows center. Because that's how close to the band this sounds. ESSENTIAL This competes squarely with any of the best recordings we have from 1976. 'Happenings Ten Years Time Ago' and a full version of 'Singring'! ~ Warren |

7/17/76 | HENRY LEVITT ARENA WICHITA KS | AUDIENCE (GEOFF LAURENZO) MASTER | 42:00 |
Date Added:10/30/2016 Track List:(CUTS IN) SINGRING AND THE GLASS GUITAR (ALMOST COMPLETE AND WE GET ALL THE 'BRAVE ADVENTURER'S SOLOS).FREEDOM FIGHTERS.DO YA.JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:Another Geoff Laurenzo audience recording beauty. It has its flaws though. There was a bass anomaly that just was a continuous sound of loud hum. So to remove the hum, it literally removes most of Kasim's bass. I did everything under the sun to make it work, but just could not. HOWEVER having said all that, the clarity of the other instruments and vocals are right up front like a soundboard recording. It is still an incredible listen! We get some very early 'RA' in 1976. And unfortunately, Geoff has long ago lost the first tape of this show, so all we get is: 'Singring', 'Freedom Fighters’, 'Do Ya' and 'Just One Victory'. BUT it's still well worth it! The music is powerful. Thanks once again to Geoff for sharing his MASTER tape for me to transfer.~ Warren |

Date Added:3/7/2016 Track List:COMMUNION WITH THE SUN.WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN/SUNSET BLVD/LE FEEL INTERNACIONALE.LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.THE SEVN RAYS.EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN.HEAVY METAL KIDS.HIROSHIMA.DO YA. Note:Another by Geoff Laurenzo. This one unfortunately suffers from some flaws. It's only one MASTER Cassette Tape and only about 50 minutes of the Show (They were on the Bill with Jethro Tull and some other acts). Very much Stadium/large open venue acoustics to it...possibly recorded a great distance from the stage and apparently a windy day in Kansas City for you can hear the wind blowing over the microphones throughout the short recording. It's hard to describe, for it's very much listenable. And some parts of the tunes are at a good level, but then the quality drops off. So this one goes in our collection just for posterity. A rare little collectors piece just the same. I mean....all these dozens of recordings by Geoff can't be perfect...chuckle chuck~ Warren |

EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN. HEAVY METAL KIDS. BOOGIES (HAMBURGER HELL). HIROSHIMA. DO YA. Note:What a rarity audience recording! What a set! Early Kasim and pre- RA stuff! Not the best sound (vocals are way out front & Todd's guitar very distant) but a true treasure chest for collectors. Historic. Don’t know where Gil got this, but thank you buddy! ESSENTIAL! |

EMERGENCY SPLASHDOWN. THE VERB TO LOVE. INITIATION. THE WHEEL. MR TRISCUITS. SOMETHING'S COMING CD TWO: BOOGIES (HAMBURGER HELL). HIROSHIMA. SINGRING AND THE GLASS GUITAR. UTOPIA THEME. DO YA. JUST ONE VICTORY Note:Tony/Warren Notes: Another strike from the archive project, this excellent audience tape has almost no audience chatter and very clear sound. The tape was somewhat old, but still very deserving of the transfer due to the quality. The Band is tight and playing is strong and shows some evolution on the RA tracks… as compared to the 1977 Floor Show of Prog-rock props & costumes, Sphinx (‘Morris’) and Pyramid frame. Some distortion bleeps here and there (particularly Communion With The Sun), but not annoying. Crazy Lady Blue premier features as 'Be My Love'...with different lyrics ("...Shady Lady Blue"). Some tech problems during some songs- but the house acoustics are always good during 70s Japanese fan recordings. Pretty damn good old audience tape. We don't have much 1976 stuff. Put some head phones on for this one! |

This is not the 'Smashing Ice Guitar' (Tarantura) boot from the same date and seems to be another source too! Or maybe two shows were performed on December 12th 1976? Again maybe Hiroshi can clarify. A very good audience recording, I think… of some early ‘Kasim’ and early ‘RA’. If ya'll already have this, then please forgive me. I didn't have it, and It's been very hard for me to find until now.
