Note:Roger's screaming keys will take you on a trip, Kaz kicks out some incredible Bass (& lead Guitar), with great improvisational licks, and beautiful vocals, Todd's chops are right on, as are his ever magnificent vocals and Willie kicks ass and keeps it all together. Yes they used open air microphones so there is a lot of crowd noise, and witnesses account that there was A LOT of acid floating around ("Anybody out here still do acid?", Todd asks). There is a pretty rough version of this in circulation. But this a somebody's excellent cassette here in the Archives. I had to do a lot of editing to amplitude (db) levels.'Love is The Answer' has some sort of hiss that I couldn't rid. I guess it just 'is what it is'. But I really enjoy this (not as great as Landmark, of course)! Especially an awsome Medley of 'The Ikon' and 'The Seven Rays'!~ Warren.

Gil Ireland-Ashley says,"I was actually at this one, the 2nd of 2 nights; it was billed as a 'Benefit for Joel', though I've never been clear on who that is. My buddy Dan and I drove all day from LA, only to be initially turned away at the doo rbecause I was not yet 21 (see ticket - no minors!). After (not very much) pleading and explaining that we had driven 500 miles for the show, the bouncer let us in. The core combo was Todd and Tubes: Prairie Prince, Rick Anderson and Vince Wellnick.
I chatted a bit with Bill Spooner in the crowd before the show, so his guest turn wasnot a huge surprise. Fee Waybill (and, I think, Mike Cotten) joined in at the very end for the Who medley. Todd stated the previous night that Compassion was gettingits premiere, so this show marked the 2nd performance of that song (in F, on solo piano).
The Band format was:
4-piece band (1st 4 songs), solo piano (5 songs), 2 songs solo on acoustic guitar, Sputnik (Introduced only as Juan Tyrone) joining the combo to sing 3 songs, 3 songs as a quartet and then 'everyone' joining in for the medley. 'Just One Victory' was with the 4-piece.
This is not the best recording by any stretch, but what can I say? It's a one-off special (OK, a two-off), and I was there!
BTW, We drove back all night to LA with a faulty alternator, stopping every 2 hours to charge the battery for an hour, but made it back by dawn so Dan could go to work! Good times...enjoy all!"~ Gil Ireland-Ashley
Gil transferred this age old cassette for me. It started out as a very rough recording, but I thought some of it 'had promise'. And I edited the best I could. Side B (Disc Two) was extremely distorted and I could not do anything with the Sputnik piece or the fee Waybill 'Who' piece. I guess they just 'are what they are'. Almost annoying. The rest of the show I think I restored nicely. I think that this is the best this is gonna get. We already have a good copy of the first Night (1980-10-03) from Frank Bubnick. So this completes the history and we thank you Gil!~ Warren

Gil says, "Another one I was at (for the 2nd consecutive night). This was in the middle of the SF 49ers improbable run to their first Super Bowl, and you can hear a couple of references to the Niners from the crowd in this recording. We were home from college for the holidays, and watched the playoff win over the NY Giants in the afternoon (38-24) at Mom's; it had started raining during the latter part of the game, and as we headed into SF for the Todd show we encountered a mudslide on the freeway as we descended toward the Golden Gate Bridge. We queued up in the rain waiting for the 2nd show, and were soaked through and through by the time we took our seats. The crowd was, shall we say, boisterous; I admit: some (not all) of the obnoxious banter is me. It makes for a somewhat painful listening experience at times, but Todd is a consummate professional and rolls with it. Tomita and Time Heals videos are included; photos by Wes Weaver.
Postscript: we went to Wes' house on the peninsula after the show, as we were headed back to LA the next day. Watching the TV news after we made it back, we saw the images of the flooding that plagued the Bay Area the day we left and considered ourselves lucky to have gotten out the area without incident. But part of our remembrance of that time is this "drowned rat" show at the Old Waldorf."

Track List:CHANT.COMPASSION. BANG ON THE DRUM.BAG LADY.ONE WORLD.
Note:Some very good HD captures of each individual tune have surfaced on the Web, and these are the audio grabs from the films. Strange selection of songs to perform, with the exception of 'Bang On The Drum', which was a chart topper at that time. But to start of a rare TV 'featured' appearance with 'Chant' was strange. Now, ending the show with 'One World' was great! Todd was backed by Mike Finnigan & the Right Band ("members too numerable to mention") and accompanied by vocalists Flo & Eddie (Mark Volman & Howard Kaylan) and Karla Devito. These few captures are a welcome addition, for the sound quality is very good and the KLOS FM Version is truncated before and after tunes. Thank you to Gil Ireland-Ashley for his FM Master!~ Warren

I did a little of bringing the highlights up front. Unfortunately, when I do that; it highlights the chatter next to the taper as well. And The Video Tracks are not worth listening to, for the recorder did not pick them up as clearly as Todd’s actual performance. A couple of places where the audience applause is 'cut’ too (not real noticeable).Typical December 1983 Solo set. But Todd's performance is stellar and a lot of fun. ~ Warren

Note:After I did very much 'work' to this Audience Recording (Gil had transfered it from Cassette for us), I cannot believe how miraculous this now sounds for an Outdoor Stage ('Festival') Show. Sure there's the audience noise and chatter...that's expected. Lots of hand clapping to the beat of some of the tunes, but not annoying. The Afternoon Set starts off a little rough ('Too Much Water'), then phonics improve. The Evening Show, the Band is on fire, with two great Medleys! Both Shows; when the audience noise stops to just listen, the sound of the music is incredible. Lot's of 'Oblivion' here, that I know the Fans get to hear for the first time. All the performances are very burnable to 2 CDs for listening pleasure. I love this! ENJOY~ Warren
|11/22/86||TODD WITH THE TUBES (W/O FEE WAYBILL) 'JANE DORNACKER TRIBUTE' THE WARFIELD SAN FRANCISCO CA||AUDIENCE RECORDING COURTESY OF GIL IRELAND-ASHLEY||23 MINS|
Track List:PLAY THIS GAME.LOVE IN ACTION.COME AS YOU ARE.MIGHTY LOVE.JUST ONE VICTORY (CUTS OUT).
Note:A 'One Off' for the Tubes (W/o Fee Waybill) backing Todd for this Tribute to Jane Dornacker. This is rare wonderful Audience Recording (I did some editing) Gil transferred it from Cassette for me. It's ALL Todd (with help from the Tubes). He beautifully performs The Tube's 'Come As You Are', and he brings out his entire 'A Capella Tour' Ensemble to back him on 'Mighty Love' & 'Just One Victory'! This is all GREAT, except with the slight cut off of 'Just One Victory'. And thank you Gil! RARE!~ Warren
Wikipedia says, “Jane Dornacker (October 1, 1947 – October 22, 1986) was an American rock musician, actress, comedian, and traffic reporter. In 1986, while working for WNBC 660 AM Radio in New York City (which became WFAN in 1988), Dornacker was aboard during two unrelated crashes of the helicopters leased to WNBC. She survived the first crash, but was killed in the second crash into the Hudson River, which occurred as she was delivering a live traffic report. A memorial concert in celebration of Dornacker took place at The Warfield Theatre in San Francisco on Saturday, November 22, 1986. (She wrote ‘Don’t Touch Me There’ for The Tubes)”

Note:Excellent Audience Recording (Rare. Not in 'circulation)! Gil transferred this from his cassette 'as is'(raw) for me. All I did was bring some highlights up front, for Todd uses 'backing computer music' on this one. He explains before 'Mated', in great detail, the loss of some of his equipment, damaged at the Woodstock Warehouse. And he's using Roger's 'Texture' Equipment.
This is not the infamous 'Drunk Show', that is at New George's seven months later (August). This is an awesome performance. Too bad that a goofy/stoned Fan was next to the taper. I cut out as much of him as I could, without ruining the integrity of the recording. Todd has fun here, as you can hear him stop & pause for a period, and the finish 'Love in Action', with humor. I love this (with the exception of audience chatter & hollering).ESSENTIAL for Collectors~ Warren

Note:Wow. What an experience to share with all the Todd heads present. So many people there, so many that I have been communicating and working with ages. I won’t try to list 'em here because I wouldn’t want to leave anyone out. The week was very much ‘take it as you want it’. Some people wanted the party scene and that was there galore but the adventures, planned, the food and especially the fellowship made this an event for the ages. All of us who have some duties and responsibilities towards the scene have no doubt returned newly energized. The details of the house, the whole scene will be relayed as folklore for the years to come. I don’t know if this will be a regular event or not, but if it ever happens again, don’t miss it. Todd and his family were magnificent hosts and I still can’t believe he was so cool to do that. Michele ran the show with a lot of help from John (a really cool nice gentle sweetheart of a guy). It was great to mingle with Todd, Michele, Rebop or the family but the people there were what made it so great. That’s the reason you go is to connect with everyone. For all the people who bugged/semi-stalked TR (not that much really considering) there was a richer scene going on around him with all of those who made the trek and were mature enough to reflect on years of traveling the road to utopia together.. I met artists, people from the past, long time buddies...all getting that red dirt on our heels together...and going to the beach, town, etc...A lot of time was spent just doing Kauai...which was the ticket for me this weekend...I needed some rest and got it. I missed 70% of the nighttime fun because I wanted to sleep. I opted to arise early instead. The weather was only dreary one day on the week and rain was brief but unpredictable. Sunset everyday at 730...can’t thank the family for the weekend enough.......And now...for the music.~ Tony Rogers
After much anticipation and a week that went by all too fast the Toddster did not disappoint nor did the musicians. The Stage was constructed over the Lake that pools from the river running through Todd and Michele's living room and above the water falls. It was quite a feat just building on top of water, supplying electricity and sound and using the LED living room house lighting for the last song's special effects. It was a dream come true for all the Todd fans. Amazingly not overpopulated even though some locals and friends attended. It was a mild Kilauea night of weather and high spirits. Shortly before sunset between 6 & 7pm Michele introduced the show we had all been waiting for from the Lanai Deck. The band came out and launched into "Mad" setting some of us into mental bliss frenzy. Still setting sound levels Todd opted to replay the song. Yes it was better clearer stronger second time around. I could have heard all of the songs repeated but it was a dress rehearsal. Most of the new songs have the power rock feel as rumored and most were single word titles like "Mad", "Afraid", "Mercenary", "Gun", "Weakness" (sung toward Michele on the upper deck), "Mountain Top", "Pissin", "Panic" ending with explosive lighting effects background from the house for "Man UP" and no encores. Thirteen songs were played and no former releases revisited. Lyrically engrossing and sonically pleasing especially the searing twin guitar solos. Rachel Hayden, bassist, laid down the bottom with chest throbbing pulses while Prairie gave the heart beat precision. Matt on rhythm guitar and keyboards with backing vocals provided a sweet addition while Todd and Jesse wailed away. The only approach to disappointment was that the set ended too soon but no matter how long it would play on it would have been too soon for all in attendance. One of the Highlights was watching Michele (sans boot cast) and Claudia and another unnamed woman jump into the lake with the stage dancing to the last song. The smiles on their faces was priceless :) The saving grace was Todd's announcement for all to "Party until Dawn". ~ Jim Spann

Note:This is a weird sitrep. I found the tease on YouTube for this. Says it’s a 2019 Camelot Records Release! Camelot has no listing of it anywhere (past, present or future). Sooooooo…I found it on Spotify and grabbed it with my Replay Media Player Ap (and it’s not peak amplitude capped out). IT IS a Pro Recording of the Show. And in typical Camelot Fashion, they like to fade in and out audience applause before & after most tracks. ‘Official’?
