Track List:GOOD NEWS. BIG BROTHER. THE OTHER SIDE. CREDEMPHELS. STORM. CADILLAC. MY BABE. I AINT SEARCHIN'. FUTURE'S FOLLY. I AM YOU. FRANKFORD EL. RASPBERRIES.
Note:Here is the first ever TR production. And the first Ampex release (#a-10101) for Albert Grossman's Bearsville Label (but printed on Ampex). This is a rock album but not too hard. Very straight forward/early production style by Todd. It's the album deal that brought Paul Fiskin to Bearsville and into Todd's life for the Runt deal soon to follow. Sara did a super job on the digital transfer. The official (out of print) LP/release is from Hiroshi's collection in Japan. And we'd also like to thank Istvan for his transfer @24Bit/96khz of super rare AMPEX X1001 Reel to Reels~ Warren

Note:One of the very first projects Todd ever did with Ian, Sylia (where Todd met Norman Smart...and worked on Ballad of Todd Rundgren demos during breaks)and Amos Garrett. This is where this band was launched and would spend years on Canadian TV, making big bucks for years to come, as the host band of a Variety Show. This is a very different country/folk/rock type project (more typical of Grossman's taste than Todd's). Recorded for Ampex orginally. Thanks to Roger Steel for sharing his CD. We think it's one of the seminal country rock albums of all time, leading the way for all followers to flock to Nashville.
*Special Note: I'd like to thank so much Istvan for his recent brilliant 24 Bit/96Khz transfer of this original super rare 1970 Ampex issue on reel to reel! These decades old phonics are marvelous today!~ Warren

Great find and a million thanks to Mojorisen for sharing this transfer from reels at 16Bit/41000Khz. And now Istvan provides us with a brilliant Transfer @ 24Bit/96Khz from another rare copy of BST 2006-F-DP! So, special thanks to Istvan! |5/7/77||THE PALLADIUM NEW YORK NY (FIRST NIGHT)||SOUNDBOARD (VARIOUS KBFH)||37:00|
Track List:COMMUNION WITH THE SUN.LAST RIDE.JEALOUSY.EASTERN INTRIGUE.LOVE OF THE COMMON MAN.THE IKON/FREEDOM FIGHTERS.COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU.
Note:The age old date and venue information that we have is contradicting on this one. Istvan and I have been trying to add some history & timelines up on it. And have come to the likely conclusion that this is possibly a show that was rescheduled (Boston Orpheum May 7th was rescheduled to May 17th) to be a first show at The Palladium in New York on May 7th. The second show being on May 8th (see entry below). For we have copies of ticket stubs to reflect some of this.
The biggest key to the confusion is; This is a KBFH recording, and they have two different presentations of it. One on Radio DJ presentation >'KBFH Promotion Spot for July 31 1977', listing it as 'The Palladium' (with 'Communion With The Sun'/'The Last Ride'/'Jealousy' & 'Couldn't I just Tell You'... Istvan supplies with his transfer from KBFH Reel to Reel!)and another on official CD release 'King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents Todd Rundgren Live' (Concert Series # BO4YNEY), listing it as 'Schaffer (mispelled) Music Festival' (with 'The Last Ride'/'Eastern Intrigue'/'Love of the Common Man' & 'Couldn't I Just Tell You'). And then Jon Risen's KBFH version of it has an additional 'The Ikon'/'Freedom Fighters'!
It makes sense to us that this is the first night of two (May 7 & 8 1977) at the Palladium in New York on May 7th 1977. Right or wrong, it is wonderful to have worked with Istvan on this, and we have now 8 performances of excellent soundboard from this show.~ Warren

Track List:01 EASY MONEY Written-By – Corky Laing, Ian Hunter.02 SILENT MOVIE Written-By – Corky Laing, Ian Hunter.03 I AIN'T NO ANGEL Written-By – Corky Laing, Ian Hunter.04 THE BEST THING Written-By – Corky Laing (Background Vocals & Hammond - Todd).05 I HATE DANCIN' Written-By – Corky Laing.06 THE OUTSIDER Written-By – Ian Hunter (Background Vocals & Hammond - Todd).07 JUST WHEN I NEEDED YOU MOST Written-By – Randy Van Warmer (But Vocals by Ian). 08 LOWDOWN FREEDOM Written-By – Billy Joe Shaver.09 ON MY WAY TO GEORGIA Written-By – Corky Laing, Leslie West, Mick Jones.10 GROWING OLD WITH ROCK N' ROLL Written-By – Corky Laing.
Note:Don't really know why I include this in the Archives. I guess because of the Super Stars involved! Story goes that Todd was in Woodstock and just joined in the 'Jam'. He did not have any Production involvement. But some stuff is pretty cool. Especially Randy Van Warmer's'Just When I Need You Most'(sung by Ian). Here's an 'overblown' Shockwavemagazine Review of the re-release Record Store Day Album. Calling it 'Corky Lang's POMPEII"!:
Corky Laing’s Pompeii: The Secret Sessions: Let’s take a trip back to the late 70s, which was a turbulent time for musical tastes. Punk was just beginning to surface and it replaced the increasingly complacent era of glam and classic rock. Therefore, Bands like Mountain and Mott the Hoople were now the old guard and kids no longer cared.
Corky Laing, drummer for the legendary rock band Mountain and founder of supergroup Pompeii says, “In this environment, my record company Elektra/Asylum was preparing to bail on me, but before doing so, they asked if I wanted to form a so-called ‘Supergroup.’ I had no choice, and so began the journey into The Secret Sessions.
The Secret Sessions is their long lost album and features Corky Laing, Ian Hunter, Mick Ronson, Felix Pappalardi, Dickey Betts, Leslie West, Todd Rundgren, John Sebastian and Eric Clapton and is set for release on Record Store Day – April 21, 2018.
The album opens with a classic sound in the shape of “Easy Money.” It shows off infectious dark lines which manoeuvre their way around the verses, while the piano punches through. “The Best Thing” is up next and this number shines through. Furthermore, it makes you smile from cheek to cheek. It’s a track full of love and soaring guitars, which consequently vamp it up.
“I Ain’t No Angel” is straight to the point with funk filled grooves and mesmerising tones. It definitely isn’t no angel. “I Hate Dancin” follows and is funky from the seams inward. It makes you want to move your body without a second thought as the power of the song takes control. “The Outsider” tells a tale which draws you in with every word. Imagine the wind and sun blasting on your face while crushing guitars bring a gritty, raw sound to the mix. “Silent Movie” is soulful and you can feel it deep throughout while the harmonica sets the track perfectly.
“Growin’ Old With Rock & Roll” is full of feeling, drums, rhythm and blues. It really captures the essence of growing old with something you love. “On My Way To Georgia” gets things going with the drumbeat while electronic bongos add an additional vibe to this southern groove.
“Just When I Needed You Most” is beautiful and enchanting. It will have you fixated after just one listen. “Lowdown Freedom” is upbeat and rock & roll guitars keep the flavor sweet. It is foot tapping good from start to finish.
Bonus tracks “Easy Money,” “Silent Movie” and “Growin’ Old With Rock & Roll” have been re-recorded with Corky’s current solo band consisting of Chris Shutters and Mark Mikel, bringing a fresh sound to these classic tracks.
The album closes with new track “Knock Me Over,” and it knocks you over with euphoric guitars and a modern twist.
Corky Laing’s Pompeii: The Secret Sessions is something very special indeed and leaves you with taste for more.

JUST ONE VICTORY.
Note:This one originally was a listenable audience recording. It held so much 'promise' for improvement that I just 'went to it'. We just have so little Utopia 1983 in the archives. Especially the 8 long tune medley beginning disc two is so very rare: Communion With the Sun/The Ikon/The Seven rays/Singring/Initiation/ Road To Utopia/Caravan and Last of the New Wave Riders! An incredible performance and now a REMARKABLE LISTEN. Several of us have tried to enhance this recording so many times over the years. I'm now so proud to add this new edit of this show to our vaults. THIS SHOW IS ESSENSENTIAL and a ‘Trophy’. ~ Warren

Note:Here's an oldie that just now (finally) surfaced, by my good buddy Jon Babcock. An awesome recording of the last night of Toddstock II, or 6.5, or whatever ya wanna call it, at Nottaway plantation in Louisiana. It was a "STATE" performance. Those lucky ones of you who attended will want to keep this charm for their memories. I did some EQing and brought the performance 'up front and in your face'. Those that are particularly the fond of the "Official State Visit' Tour, would love this one. ~ Warren

RundgrenRadio.com's NYE gig in Orlando Florida. Yep, It's the Soundboard. And as soundboards go; they are always excellent recordings of the Band...but you can barely hear an audience. It's kind of mysterious sounding. But that's OK. This of course, is what we 'coined' as a 'Hits Show'. Which Todd was touring at this portion of the year 2013. It's New Years Eve, and Todd is really feeling the Champagne here, but his performances are spot on.
As you know, Pat Travers is on the bill too (His Set is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N96HlBVSx3c ), and here he 'guests' on Mystified & Broke Down & Busted. All in all, this is a knock out recording. I love the selection of Tunes

And I don't think Al would mind if I shared his TRC Review (Al Cannon): " I decided to drive down to Orlando from NC for this show. It wasn't as easy as my usual method (flying), but I had time for stops in SC and GA, so I figured why not. We got to Florida and met up with my good friend Keith Kaufman. We headed for the party on 12/30 and had a blast meeting Kasim Sulton and friends, plus making new friends. On 12/31 came part two. We got to BB Kings and found a great place to stand on the floor. The show began and Pat Travers exploded into some great tunes including "Boom Boom Out Go The Lights" and "Statesboro Blues". I had not seen Pat since 1987 so it was great to see him again. Now we get to Todd. After a short intermission, the show started as did the hits. The show turned out to be a "Best of" event similar to what we had seen on the "Unpredictable Tour" (with a few adjustments). I won't get into analyzing the set list here, but I can say that Todd's voice was strong and clean and the band was perfect. I heard someone say that "Hawking" was the best version he'd ever heard and I can agree (with the possible exception of the night I heard it on the "A Capella Tour" in 1985). Every song was strong. There was an amazing vibe in the air and everyone had a great time including the band. Todd really seemed to enjoying himself. Thanks again to Doug Ford (the promoter) for a wonderful evening. Putting shows together is not easy and (as always) he along with Cruiser Mel did a great job. So we'll see you in September, "Cause There's Always More."~ Warren
*Addition 2018-10-06 Pat Travers Set:Magnificent recording by my Buddy Jon Babcock. I did some equalizing, brought out Travers' Vocals and upped the Bass. This sounds like a Soundboard, so it's a nice accent to the above actual Soundboard of Todd's portion from the RundgrenRadio New Years Eve Extravaganza down in Orlando FL.~ Warren

Rodney O'Quinn: Bass

Note:This is a really awesome one by 'Seedy' (on Traders Den)... and Thank You 'Seedy'! Whomever or wherever you are! We didn't have to do much work on this one. Except there was not much Bass present. So we upped that. We also reduced the number of tracks by adding the 'banter' to its preceding song and mended the 'Soul Medley' together. If you accustomed to the 'Unpredictable' Tour this year, then you'll know it's some of the usual stuff, except here they add 'Open My Eyes' and 'Let's Do This' (one of my all time favorites). The performance is spectacular (as the Guys always are @ Austin City Limits). If you like Todd's unusual pick of 'covers', then you’d love this one. Me? What a treat to hear him cover some amazing songs. I was in my "sweet spot" at the Granda and the crowd around me was enthusiastic, but respectable. Note:This one was a 'bear'...to do some 'magic' with Geoff Laurenzo's recording (w/ TASCAM DR-07). Though it's actually very good, and it held so much promise, but he was in the balcony so there's some distance ambience. So I brought it all out 'up front & in your face'. I think it sounds wonderful! Thank you Geoff for this rare treat!~ Warren
Geoff says, "Hoyt Sherman had the more famous brother of William Tecumseh Sherman. Hoyt was paymaster in the Union army in the civil war. He was a successful businessman in Des Moines, and built a mansion in 1877. The beautiful 1,400 seat theater was built in 1923.
I was in the balcony and off to the right side, not directly facing the speakers. And I didn't want to fiddle with settings after starting, because an usher was close by. Thanks for working on this show."
