| 1970 | THE AMERICAN DREAM (TR PRODUCED/ENGINEERED) | LP (TRANSFERRED BY SARA KREIGER-japanese issue HIROSHI KAWAUCHI/SARA K) | 71:50 |
| Date Added:2/10/2002 Track List:GOOD NEWS. BIG BROTHER. THE OTHER SIDE. CREDEMPHELS. STORM. CADILLAC. MY BABE. I AINT SEARCHIN'. FUTURE'S FOLLY. I AM YOU. FRANKFORD EL. RASPBERRIES + BONUS TRACKS 7 DEMO TRACKS BY NICK JAMESON AND AN EARLY 45 BY A PRE DREAM BAND "THE FIRESTUFF-BIG BROTHER" Note:here is the first ever tr production and the first ampex release a-10101 for albert grossman's bearsville label, released on ampex. It will soon be revealed in the upcoming book by billy james the background on this, so i wont elaborate too much. This is a rock album but not too hard. Very straight forward early production style by todd-this is the album deal that brought paul fiskin to bearsville and into tr's life for the runt deal soon to follow-sara does a super job as usual- thanks to sara, hiroshi and others like them-this place has been greatly enriched. Since the original i got from sara, i got a seriously upgraded version from sara, an official one from her as well as an official (out of print) release from hiroshi in japan that features the above bonus tracks-essential production. |

| 1970 | GREAT SPECKLED BIRD | JAPANESE OUT OF PRINT CD | 43:39 |
| Date Added:11/12/2002 Track List:LOVE WHAT YOURE DOING CHILD. CALGARY. TRUCKER'S CAFE. LONG LONG TIME TO GET OLD. FLIES IN THE BOTTLE. BLOODSHOT BEHOLDER. CRAZY ARMS. THIS DREAM. SMILING WINE. RIO GRANDE. DISAPPEARING WOMEN. WE SAIL. NEW TRUCKER'S CAFE (LIVE) Note:one of the very first projects tr ever did with ian and sylia, where todd met norman smart (and work on the ballad demos during breaks), amos garrett and where this band was launched that would spend years on canadian tv making big bucks for years to come as the host band of a variety show...wait till billys book comes out and youll read all about it....this cd is a very different country/folk, more typical of grossman's taste than todd's..recorded for ampex records orginally-i think it was the first one ever...anyhow -much thanks again to rog for providing it- read all about it in billys forthcoming book vol 1...out in 12/02 or thereabouts with vol 2 hot on the tail....no question, one of the seminal country rock albums of all time, leading the way for all followers to flock to nashville.......... |

BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN. GET TOGETHER AGAIN. SO FAR, SO GOOD. Note:this is tr producing a live whitebut blues lp from way back- kinda strange that he did this and cotton so early since the blues really is not that pronounced in todds music himself..this is just a solid old jam filled album that the hippies used to have when they couldnt get robert johnson albums..just joking--this is good-i have the lp-roger strikes again on a single cd.... |

MATED EXTENDED VERSION BY JACKI GRAHAM AND DAVID GANT. IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE -PLANET PATROL (TONY CAREY). JUST ONE VICTORY (HELLO PEOPLE VERSION FROM THOSE HANDSOME DEVILS LP) Note:well this one was missing on the list as well, so here it is back...hk gave this to me many many years ago and you know what it is..if i have to tell you about it, then please see the BJ book about it....this is the one that drove collectors crazy for years....the differences are what this is about and it sounds remarkable for sure EEEEESSSSSEEEENNNNTTTTIIIIAAAALLLL |

| Date Added:5/1/2005 Track List:PEOPLE BEEN TALKING. GOT MY PRIDE. EVERYTHING IS FINE. COLOUR SCHEME. CHECKIN ON MY BABY. TRYIN SO HARD. JUST TO BE WITH YOU. ID BE A FOOL. MARBLE REFLECTIONS Note:here is the album that was referred to as the one paul fiskin stuck with the band to see through..before he was reunited with todd in ny w/ grossman folks/ampex...the album shows where todd would be-you can hear his style rub off on the replacement but the tunes are one of late 60s and early 70s and this album is good but very much like the west coast psych bands, grape, dead, JA, etc....not bad but not a fit for todd, good for us he got out ...thanks warren |

| Date Added:9/20/2001 Track List:HE WAS. SOME PEOPLE. READY I AM. KICKS. BUT I AINT GOT YOU. (TAKE THE HAND-SIC) LOOSEN UP. LEMMING SONG (DEMO). YOU ARE MY WINDOW. OPEN MY EYES (LIVE). CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS. TRAIN KEPT A ROLLIN' (DEMO?) Note:the first in a joint project between me/j risen (who is the man) and whoever else would like to clean up some surface noise on this. This, as you long timers will know is from the legendary bootleg that rumor has it appeared even before some of the same tracks on n3. I have no idea the exact lineup on he was, ready i am and but i aint got you. long rumor has it thats rick neilsen of cheap trick replacing todd on gtr-some have said one or more of these tunes were reworked for the debut cheap trick lp jon did a terrific job but my vinyl is as noisy as all of em. If you can help clean the surface noise let me know. I really like the non tr tunes and the others are ones of many (as you have seen) outtakes from the nazz folks. This is one that should have been available a while back-still worth having with the surface noise (which only seriously affects the first tune). |

| 1971 | JAMES COTTON BLUES BAND-TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS (TR PRODUCED)+ BONUS : GREAT IMPOSTERS 20/20/HINDSIGHT-TRIBUTE TO THE NAZZ | LP TRANSFER (ROGER STEEL) | 66:41 |
| Date Added:11/15/2002 Track List:THE SKY IS FALLING. LONG DISTANCE OPERATOR. IM A FREE MAN. CANT LIVE WITHOUT LOVE. KIDDIE BOY. SHE MOVES ME. TONIGHT I WANT TO LOVE ME A STRANGER. NOSE OPEN. GOODBYE MY LADY. GEORGIA SWING. BONUS TRACKS : THE GREAT IMPOSTERS "20/20 HINDSIGHT - A TRIBUTE TO NAZZ" FORGET ALL ABOUT IT. NOT WORNG LONG. SHES GOIN DOWN. KIDDIE BOY. HELLO ITS ME. WILDWOOD BLUES. MERIDIAN LEEWARD. LOOSEN UP Note:as far i know, roger does his most important transfer of the recent bunch with this super low noise lp transfer of the legendary bluesman's summit with todd and the gang. norman smart (of recent mountain fame), moogy kilngman and others make their first mark on OH. this does sound a bit dated but included are versions of the nazz tune, kiddie boy as well as the georgia swing (performed in both 71 and 72 radio bcasts) and tonight i want to... (performed 7/1/71 sung by norman)..i think these sessions (although dated sounding in spots-like the blues stuff on the aforementioned bcasts-) are pivitol in the relationship of tr with at least moogster and ND which lead to greater things on down the line. oldtimers will recognize (with a smile) the great imposter which actually was issued by a bootleg company in the 70s/80s whne nazz originals were impossible to find (before the rhino re-issues)-so they thought theyd just hire a dude to re-record them- they are decent but the vocs are not great and it is keyboard driven..i always thought it was kinda funny cause i bought mine without really knowing what they hell it was..after you hear it, although it is respectable, its not todd and you can tell right away-no backing vocs on the tunes at all ...thank you for preservation sake for this long overdue document-which i believe has never been issed on cd...thanks again to one of the all time tr collectors, mr roger steel from cleveland, ohio |

MAKE IT BETTER. S.S.#4. DO YOU WANT ME?. CANT SEEM TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. Note:one of the first ampex tr productions in 1971. its rock, its old, it does however have that todd sound in places and tr does do some producing on this one...you should hear this one-the band is ok, tunes are pretty good..from long island???? |

| 7/1/71 | PHILADELPHIA SIGMA SOUND STUDIOS | FM SOURCE | 63:57 |
| Track List:PRE-BROADCAST BANTER/INTRO. BELIEVE IN ME. LADY ON A TERRACE. I GOT MY PIPE. IT WOULDN'T HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE. ROCK ALL OVER AGAIN. EVERYBODY IN THE CONGREGATION. BROKE DOWN AND BUSTED. TONIGHT I WANT TO LOVE ME STRANGER. OOH BABY BABY. HOLD ME TIGHT (CUTS). BEFORE I GROW TOO OLD. BE NICE TO ME. I'M FEELIN' BETTER. THE BALLAD (DENNY AND JEAN) BONUS TRACK: HOLD ME TIGHT (WHOLE TUNE) Note:this is simply the first ever solo todd performance broadcast live on philly station wmms. the quality is first rate (recorded from frank bubnicks best ever quality cassette-thanks frank..)and its about time this show made to cdr. hear the premiere recordings of all of these tunes. the same band as hempstead a year later but with the moogster added-promoting the ballad album! todd (as was the case in 72) shares the spotlight a bit much but his guitar is fierce. yes.. unless someone comes up with a nazz live tape, this is the first ever live tr show thats out there. the mix was done live by jim rowe (who recorded runt and ballad). jim gave us occassional volume bursts when tr played hot lead guitar (hey it was 71 now....) but other than that.. wow..this was probably originally from a cassette source as evidenced by the cut during hold me tight, the same place my 90 cuts on the whole program from a different source. but folks..this is really something special that is preserved on cd at long last. the bonus track (and post banter) completes the parts that were missed from the best source (and come from the second best source i could find). Upgrade realized one step from the master reels (thanks to Bobbo Stanislowski. ESSENTIAL. |

Saving Grace. Marlene. Song Of The Viking. I Went To The Mirror. (All tracks without lead vocal tracks) Note:this is odd. it sounds odd. almost feels like it could be one of those machines that takes out the lead voc on records ..but in later places it sounds like an acetate. you can hear the lead vocals are there but mixed way low in places. it is interesting to hear the instruments alone and what a masterful job todd did on the tracks (thats why i called it stack o' tracks, you brian heads out there know what i mean). but it is record one only. this is truly a treat for those who wish to tackle tr's songs karaoke style..awlright! this is really a new one on me and i have only recently (11/99) even heard of it being around....from japan.. sound is super.. |

| Date Added:10/6/2001 Track List:UNKNOWN TITLES. Note:a historical piece for tubes fans that i dont know much about. Band included spooner, anderson, welnick) not bad-it shows that this band was also stuck in the same rock thing that many bar bands were at the time. Interesting and totally different than tubes. If anyone knows anything-please speak or hold your........hard to describe this-groove oriented grown out of santana/dead-think its vinnie singing. |

Note:this is about as eccentric of a project that tr has been involved with and that, you know, is saying a lot. if youve ever heard sparks before imagine the quirkier side mixed with early todd production and youve got the idea. great ideas, vocals all over the map and its really a wonder these guys got signed.. thanks to roger we have access again to this important piece of early todd production work..it is doubtful if itll ever see the light of day again on cd, but if it does tell me and ill remove this....this is out there..but cool..hey im a wesley willis/beefheart/wildman ficher/jandak fan...so i dig it..thanks again to rog. |

LETS DO IT. I ONLY HAVE EYES FOR YOU. REMEMBER (WALKING IN THE SAND).DO YOU WANNA DANCE? Note:sound is patchy-what you would expect from a 72 audie but you can hear the band well and the crowd is into it....i know this is an important find for sure-here the tubes are a bar band...doing zappa, nice fun pop singles, fee doing his cowboy fee thang....i have to say that steen and co do not play king kong correctly but just to try to tackle it in 72 was acheivement enough-im sure few in the audience caught the error...arrangemenst at this point were at abar band level and that is where the stride took place between this and 74 when they moved/got signed in SF...like high school pics, folks! |

INITIATION RADIO AD. RA RADIO ADS (2). OOPS WRONG PLANET RADIO AD. HERMIT OF MINK HOLLOW RADIO AD. Note:this is a clear upgrade from the version before however-dont expect superb sound-this is an old one. The sound does warble as it did on the old one around slut and gets really bad on wolfman jack. I made s decision to leave on wolfman jack so to show that they did do that one but its really shakey cause it sounds like a one off..is this why we havent ever seen the video they shot of this show....? who knows?? Anyhow-the bonus tracks fill this out better the clapton piece was largely unknown in circles before larry had it..not much soundwise or musically (an encore chuck berry tune) but it shows that tr could keep important company at times (when he allowed himself to)in the mid 70s. The ads were a project of jon's-if you have more-ill get em to him. The voter ads are special warner bros artists things produced in the 70s when being cool mattered.-all 3 of these are pretty cool. |

BESIDE MYSELF. REGULAR GUY. I NEED YOU NEED ME. FEELINGS. IM SATISFIED. Note:shubaby does the trick with a great lp to cd transfer of the tr produced gal-pseudo heavy band from the blue hair days. this is different. You know, when you look at all the different sounds tr was involved in back then, its no wonder his own stuff really flowered out then. Great sound/transfer. |

RELAX GOLIATH Note:this was transferred by sandra winters from an lp. wonderful.. no surface noise..just like or even better than the original lp. tr and crew appear. a wacky lp but indicative of the scene bubbling around the edges of trs utopia's sound. people say he didn't do anything but this album sounds like an offshoot of that band. very experimental at the time. must have for completists. |

TENSEGRITY-a dymaxion triptych BONUS TRACKS: "THE ELECTRONIC SOUNDS OF THE ARP SYNTHESIZER" THE ARP 2600. THE ARP 2500 (NARRATION AND MUSIC BY RP) CIRCA 1973 ARP SYNTH PROMO SINGLE SAAB-577 Note:i dont know if this was ever released offically but im sure it never had the arp bonus tracks on the cdr as fan t storm hunter has done a wonderful job here. as you can see the titles are cross between acid and space age gooblygook but the music is very differnt and very much more influenced by walter carlos and morton subotnick thah rock music. todd would buy the album and then would insist that roger be invited to his b-day show in nyc cp on 6/22/74 and rog would then help guide the utopia sound till they stopped in 86 and 92. this is super and a classic synth release for fans of todd, roger and the synthesizer. |

IKON EXCERPT Note:one of the the oldest known radio live bcast of tr's utopia. it includes some pretty goofy comments by a columbus dj , who says "they're really jammin'" the sound is decent but not near as great as the retro- released 11/8/73. this was evidently broadcast originally on am and fm. this came from my low gen tape thru frank and done by paul. this is a long traded tape that definitely has seen an upgrade on this transfer- we all know that great sounding early stuff is hard to find. this is not the greatest but is clearly above most audience tapes. you can get the real feel of living and listening to proto radio in 73 from listening to this tape. lots o character. |

Note:this combo was again a frank b/paul russo project that culls most of this from toronto. this is a great sounding and complete document. probs are that recordings from that era are challenged by age and technology (house sound, rec equip). that being said, frank and paul cleaned this up to make it sound as good as possible. |

LORD CHANCELLOR'S NIGHTMARE SONG. HELLO, IT'S ME. PISS AARON. HEAVY METAL KIDS. LE FEEL INTERNCIONALE. CD TWO: UTOPIA THEME. BLACK MARIA. SUNSET BLVD. IKON EXCERPT. NO 1 LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. IS IT MY NAME?. HUNGRY FOR LOVE (CUTS). BONUS: HUNGRY FOR LOVE. IKON EXCERPT (BOTH FROM CINCINNATTI COUNTERPART 11/13/73) Note:simply put, a recent triumph in collaberation with frankie and paul. this is a very strong audinece tape from this era when the ikon was still a bunch of smaller pieces. the bonus tracks are from counterpart as stated above but really a very old tape that doesnt sound half bad- todds voice was blown out in detroit before the show but a real delight to hear long flowing robe. this is not a radio but it is about as good as you can find from the audience on this tour. |

ABC'S IN CONCERT: A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER.JUST ONE VICTORY. HELLO ITS ME. Note:well we havent had the other that long and here is another wonderful version of the chicago show that is just a few minutes longer and very comparable (but different) to the other version we added previously. mr hunter's includes the bonus tracks listed above and includes the rare tv appearance on abc. it really is a very close call between this one and the previous one. you need to get both to decide for yourself. |

| Date Added:12/26/2006 Track List:DOES ANYBODY WANT IT?. BRIGHTER DAY. (DIFF SOURCE?): STAND UP AND SHOUT. MONDO BONDAGE. (DIIF SOURCE AGAIN): SOLDIER'S TALE? (W/ JAZZY MIDDLE). LETS DO IT. BRIGHTER DAY. (DIFF SOURCE): UNKNOWN (CUTS IN). WHAT?. MUTATED. STAR TREK. IM A DINOSAUR. Note:nice clean old stuff from the tubes-even back to the bean house!one probelm with this is that it sounds like a number of different places, not just 2. also the date is listed as the above on heiders and also 3.19.73..maybe this can explain the cd partially. thats not to say it isnt fabulous esp the heiders studio stuff which is album quality...you all know who wally heider is..if not google it...first, theres a fab version of stand up and shout..and mondo is completely different than the version on album 1 and later..totally different groove, dare i say i like it better like this...not as showey but real nice..very jazz middle to the whole drafter/soldiers tale..brighter day is very much like a dead song..the solos sound like the dead ala allah period...again i know i focus on the drums but pp in 1973 was doing stuff that didnt materialize as drum lingo for 5 years...he really was on the cutting edge and so was the band of course...very zappa influenced in the way the band approached this stuff...a totally different tubes finding their own direction but still blowing minds..the last tunes on here are really cool as well...must for tubes historians..lot to learn from this one! |

| 1974 | HELLO PEOPLE THE HANDSOME DEVILS | LP. (TRANSFER - JON RISEN) | 40:04 |
| Date Added:9/20/2001 Track List:FUTURE SHOCK. FINGER POPPIN TIME. TAKE THE LOVE ON YOUR BODY. DESTINY. RIPPED AGAIN. LISTEN TO YOUR HEART. CREEGO. CRY BABY. JUST ONE VICTORY. HOW HIGH IS THE MOON. SAVE A DANCE FOR ME Note:one of the classic tr 73 productions from the old defunct abc label brought back from the dead by jon r. super transfer from super clean vinyl. Clearly a dated lp but a great mix of old and new tunes and JOV...recd at secret sound---"Since this is the first Hello People record in years, the first temptation is to be historical about the band. But a band that has outlasted most other American bands since 67 has so much history that obviously something else makes them still worth recording in 74. That something can hopefully now be heard as successfully as it has been seen in the past" TR (1974) |

| Date Added:11/5/2001 Track List:INTERVIEW 1974 WITH TODD, THE IKON (TRACKS 2-8, BANDED), VOTER 1972 AD WITH TODD, VOTER AD 1972 TODD WITH FLO AND EDDIE I, VOTER 72 AD W/ FLO/EDDIE #2, 1978 CONVERSATION WITH TODD AND PATTI SMITH, IT WOULDNT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE (BTTB EDITED "45" VERSION), WHEN THE SHIT HITS THE FAN (WHITE LABEL PROMO AWATS VERSION WITH "BLEEPS"), WANT OF A NAIL (SINGLE VERSION EDITED), INTERVIEW ABOUT WANT OF A NAIL (FROM PROMO CD SINGLE) Note:hidey-ho we go with a pretty fair comb for rarities that had yet to find a place. What, you say, is the banded ikon? It is the ikon, in all its splender, cut into fm radio payable sections, each of which has a central theme of some sort chronologically thru the piece, nothing new, just a fascinating view into how tr thought this should be accomplished. Personally, i wish that you dont have to be afraid was longer..if there is a single type on that side (which there is not , really) it would be that tune. Anyhow, jon transferred from my viynl. Also the i/v is available with radio clyde. Larry clark then adds the voter ads from the vinyl source-the flo and eddie stuff is preety funny. Iwhmad is the 45 version live. Ron did the wtshtf and btw, has done vinyl transfers to cd and has done a superb job-esp on faithful. The want of a nail was from a promo cd single. You know if you need this-it is all pretty high quality stuff, some vinyl noise but i sure someone will clean it eventually. |

Note:tubes enter the studio to shape their first lp. thanks to sara k to help ID the tunes-still cant find the titles to these two. anyhow-this is a fascinating document where the band is in trs 90s hometown (sf burb)-i cant imagine this not being one of the most important tubes cds out there. you let me know-sorry but i forget where i got this-probably from tony little (uk). just got an updated verison of this in august 04. |

IM WATCHING YOU (A MUTANT ROMANCE). BETTER WATCH YOUR BACK. SCREAMING THROUGH DECEMBER. JOHNNY GORE AND THE C EATERS Note:this is a touchy one-im sure at this point that it is out of print- as soon as its back in, ill remove it. roger did this and a group of classics to come for us-he really has been the man for years and years. his contribution is hugeand cannot be overstated-hes collected and preserved for decades now- so, what about the cd? it truly is the lost trs utopia album- todd is all over this, his chords, voicings, productions , willie playing with that metal snare sound ellman had on everybodys going to heaven...its all here-some great songs with some left field twists..the strangest h and o album youll ever hear-an almost exact compromise between todd-todd and abandon lunchonette....if you dont have this, you dont have all the tr albums..it is one of the great productions and reeks of todds influence even more than i remember-they should have done "youre much too soon" on this last tour..probably too hard to reproduce exactly...super-thanks as always to roger |

BONUS TRACKS: FALL 74 INTERVIEW BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY 2/14/75 MIDNIGHT SPECIAL FREEDOM FIGHTERS THE SEVEN RAYS BORN TO SYNTHESIZE Note:I admit it. My ratings are useless on my tape page... This, to my ears is superior (slightly) to Detroit 11/13. The guitar playing is excellent but you don't quite get the whole show. These shows are hurting as far as a lack of boards go, but this is not bad. The bonus i/v and 7 rays are real cool. i got mine from mr aronson which i believeis the best surviving copy. |

THE IKON (CUTS) Note:please all take note that istavan has solved the mystery-it is 4/2/74. here is the original listing: this is the overlooked (until now) and the much debated kc 74 which sounds comparable to the fall 75 shows and thats good news its on a single cd- anyway, heres why this baffles: the date is september 20th 74..(he was back out with powell and doing moogy's a night in new orleans in october of 74) also, the ikon is letter perfect and played almost note for note identical to the album version. was the eyeball album still being tinkered with or what?..and there are no vocals on the tune. todd annouces theyd not done it before.. sound is pretty strong. peformance instrumentally is stunning..this may be as tightas they ever got in the BIG UNIT. i feel its the best perfomed version of the ikon mistake and tight-wise (40+ min).. anyhow, another reason this show is weird is because of is it my name?....the tune was part of 73 but not frequent at all in 74..strange.. the possibilities are: .. anyhow if anyone has an answer that this date is wrong let me know... or knows the real story and sequence, id be curious to know..good one here if you collect the early stuff. |

IM SO PROUD/OOH BABY BABY/LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. BLACK MARIA Note:this is an old show that is listenable but not really fab as far as sound goes. ive had this for a long period of time and i dont remember who sent it but the bonus stuff is also so-so quality wise from the nyc central park show where hall and oates came onstage (before "maneater" and "sara smile" fame). anyhow, this is good to have because its old but it wont win any sound quality awards. however, it is better than "a wizard/a utopia" star boot. |

(MEMPHIS) Note:hiroshi delivers this upgrade from the tour, however, because of the age, dont expect a soundboard. this was originally purported to be all memphis but trs rap on sons give it away. definitely a different source than the first 2 tunes. ikon is an in progress version.. this is better than what i had on tape for sure but still an old audience tape- the limitations are there, but enjoyable. |

SLUT. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:finally, on of the most of the old traded shows, it has been dutifully transferred to cdr via hiroshi kawauchi. a dramatic inprovement is had here on the band set. it really sounds better than it ever has. the first set is the piano singalong event that started the concert (with hall and oates guesting among others). really a cool show that includes Todd's birthday fireworks and a free form jam! not the greatest sound ever but a classic show that has been passed around ever since it happened. |

COULDN'T I JUST TELL YOU Note:this version of cleveland sounds great- this was frank b's recording- there are some edits but pretty much the best old audience recording out there. Sound is nice. this has been slightly eclipsed by the recent find of 10/20/74 nyc-though this is really really strong. |

JUST ONE VICTORY (CUTS) Note:wow picked this up from sara (thanks)- and it is super..certainly rivals cleveland in my opinion soundwise and for an audie there is very little crowd noise-there are, as frank claimed some flip spots but what the hey- a super find with extended solos for each of the keyboard dudes as well an in between version of 7 rays...(between the superior-in my opinion- version on don kirshners and the final another life version)-you have to hear this one..super super find-hats off to frank, paul russo and mr davidson who have added an old classic to the cannon... BOY CRAZY. Note:very interesting bcast from the beg of the toobes....boy crazy is totally different not near as heavy as the al kooper produced version on the first lp. but i like it better personally like this, more subtle, even dare say jazzy. although it is kinda silly, i really like hip dip...i like the tune-could have been a single for the pop market for sure....this is even before fee decided on waybill, here he is named "fee cranson"...boy crazy is diff radically but wpod is close to the version recorded for 1st album w/i the year..key find here... |

JUST ONE VICTORY. BONUS TRACK: REAL MAN (UNKNOWN UK TV). INITIATION (FROM BBC) Note:this gem comes from the UK. a decent audience tape from the show and cleaned up marvelously by mr good. this is superior in quality to the complete tape that has made the rounds before. this is clearly a differnt source, slightly more distant but clearer. the bonus tracks are a decent sounding unknown source version (TV, steve says but its not the midnight special version) and a wonderful bbc higher quality version of initiation which i am adding to the opne my eyes boot from here on out as well..the quality is not quite as great as OME but very close-(steve mixed it for ambient stereo). Alan Speed informs me that the version of Real Man is from the Old Grey Whistle test in 75 (of which the complete has not yet been found and may be lost forever as I understand from others that the archive was not kept). |

HEAVY METAL KIDS. OPEN MY EYES. SONS OF 1984. DO YA. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. JUST ONE VICTORY Note:hey hey another oldie popped up and this is an upgrade from my tape that was available briefly but evidently hiroshi has found a different (and superior) tape to improve the sound-its really nice-it was real good before but this has about 30 mins more and sounds good.the sound is very comparable (possibly better now) than the portsmouth tape from the same era. a complete version of fair warning starts off cd 2. this is a great photo of where the tour which started in europe ended up. very soon after this show, there would only be rog and willie left, they would record disco jets with seigler and then the 4 piece or new utopia era would begin as kaz would soon arrive on the scene (on a greyhound bus he took to lake hill from staten island). updated: received the jon risen remaster-sounds nice...12/05 |

JUST ONE VICTORY BONUS TRACKS: 11/19/77 CHICAGO WXRT FM INTERVIEW WITH TODD AMD ROGER Note:another strike from the archive project, this excellent audience tape has virtually no talk and very clear sound. the tape is somewhat old and not crisp but is still very deserving of the transfer due to the quality. playing is strong and shows some evolution on the ra tracks compared to the summer 76 shows. clb premier features different lyrics and a slightly different line that is almost arriving at the melody a year later or so on OOPS. some tech probs during some songs-the house sound was the prob but not enought to prevent this from being a pretty good old audience tape. bonus is the year later interview about oops time. next stop-a week later. |

Band is on stride and singring is super. Note:one of the classic boots has now been expanded to a deuce! with addition of the cooler material on cd 2. The cd 2 stuff is only slightly less quality than disc 1 but is still fab. it is definitely worth getting for the full singring. The ivs are a good shot of where they dudes heads were in April and November of the same year. Strongly recommended. JUST ONE VICTORY Note:this one came from frank and is clearly somebody else's production. very interesting set list, each song is faded on the disk (probably a result of an antiquated cdr machine). the sound is somewhat distant but still is listenable and is important for love reunion (in the pre-show video music). nice addition to see where they were before they came to the us. (new 12/28/02 comment) i recently came across another different show which has changed the perspective date-wise. the last show was 2/2, since this one is not the last it is either the daye before or an earlier show.. |

CD TWO: SOMETHING'S COMING (FADES IN FROM PROB. TRISCUITS). THE DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL. HIROSHIMA. SINGRING AND THE GLASS GUITAR. BOOGIES (HAMBURGER HELL). JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:thank gary for sending this to me despite my reluctance to get it..i was wrong..this is not the same night as the other new victoria show, in fact, i think the sound on this is justna bit better-closer and clearer-this starts up an clears up very soon into a really strong audience especially for 1977..the strange ikon into splashdown is strange, so is playing boogies instead of cijty..death of r and r is in a strange slot and is absolutely pedestrian-very slow - may have been when it was first whipped back out with kaz singing it...anyway-it is neat and is (as verified by tr in banter)- the last show of the spring warm up gigs...nice tour ending soloing going on here. a good'un for sure. have just received infro from hiroshi- and others- they seem to have info that claims this is 2/2/77 (last date)-i will need to correct the other. NEWEST NOTE 1/16/03: just got a new version of this from gary and although some are on both cds, the sound is super. complete as can be from the source himself. |

SINGRING AND THE GLASS GUITAR. UTOPIA THEME. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:the second of the new 77 audies..this one is special cause of the decently recorded preamble music which clears a lot of stuff up for me...these intro tunes would be nice to turn up on a rarities collection (thanks to kaz for including it on his newer quid cd as a hidden track-love reunion)..sweet little suzie quotes the melody from hoi polloi 3 years before it was recorded..expanded hometown setlist compared to the atl..but atl is better soundwise and this one has some yap but is nice due to the unobscured appearance of the intro tunes and the unlikely ikon>splashdown..thanks again to one of my fave tr people, long time pal and great all around guy, mr k |

Note:one of the two new 77 ra shows from japan and this ones the better one..sound is much better than the cassette version (which i had for ages)...the sound is still not better than the euro one (here to come or the eye of ra) but is a very strong audie with little to zero yap..jealosy is real strong and the jazz tinged / acid tinged eternal love center section has a lot of trippy echo on it and the tune is over ten minutes long..at the old fox..harder and harder to find these old things-in the realm of old audies this is real special..thanks to hk- a tireless warrior of transfers! |

These are disco inspired syth simplistic dance grooves-almost fusiony-the playing isnt bad but i dont know if its him or not. This almost what happens when a band is trying to please donna summer fans and can fans who are on a cruise together-the reason i say can i that the only person i think who sounds like him vocally may be michael karoli (later day can..landed, flow motion..etc). Very clean storebought like transfer. Other tunes are slow weirdness like the stuff on his solo debut. The vocal disco tunes were aimed (i guess) at the euro disco scene.. |

UNCHAINED MELODY. WNEW JINGLE. WHO WROTE THE BOOK OF LOVE?. CAN WE STILL BE FRIENDS?. BREAD, DONT YOU EVER LEARN?. DUST IN THE WIND. THE VERB "TO LOVE". CD TWO: A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. IM SO PROUD/OOH BABY BABY/LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU/I SAW THE LIGHT. EASTERN INTRIGUE. INITIATION. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU HELLO ITS ME. JUST ONE VICTORY. HANG ON SLOOPY. OUTRO/WNEW. BONUS TRACKS: ROBERT MORGAN WXLO NYC SPECIAL OF THE WEEK (SONGS EDITED OUT) TR I/V. Note:maybe because the 5/14 shows are out there is why this has never been transferred before. Thur the archive project, this is corrected now. What a great fun relaxed show to groove to. The source is the low gen tape i got from long time head brian welsh. the wnew crew does a good jo of explaining the tour but calls kaz a former member and says moogy is the only utopia member in the band (not true at all- willie was). Dust sung by moogster nicely. Bread-same balance vol wise probs as on the midnight special version occurs here. but tr really nails the leads. A very strange version of verb to love where it started way too fast and never gets back to the correct speed.. rick derringer on soul medley, sloopy. this is a long standing classic that sounds great and has been overdue on cd for a long while. the bonus i/v is where tr is surprisingly very candid about his childhood days. IM SO PROUD>OOH BABY BABY>LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU>I SAW THE LIGHT. EASTERN INTRIGUE. INITIATION. DETERMINATION. HELLO ITS ME. LOVE IS THE ANSWER. JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:a one of a kind document for sure..i do think this is one of the shows that ended up having tracks on the japanese nippon series...sound is yappy but is very nice at times, great in fact for 1978 audience tape...a really nice you cried wolf...some zipper cuts at end of determination which is pretty nice but the backgrounds dont quite make it...huge hole in the center of initiation..the tune is just not meant to be palyed with a grand piano as the only keyboard..it misses roger bad-not moog's fault he does very well..just not suited to the piano trio concept-its far too complicated for that..great great show..and decent audie of it |

IM SO PROUD/OOH BABY BABY/LA LA MEANS I LOVE YOU/I SAW THE LIGHT. EASTERN INTRIGUE. INITIATION. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. HELLO ITS ME. HANG ON SLOOPY. SHES GONE. JUST ONE VICTORY. Note:wolfman jack adorns this classic from the bttb recording show series in la. Some high end strangeness results from the microwave method but still sounds great for a 78 show. stevie nicks (probably thru fishkin) added to the usual participants as well as-spencer davis harp on range war (the bttb version was this show for sure). maria as well. hall and oates guest on sometimes i dont know...shes gone is good as well-many sections where the hello people do the 50s style station ids during the program. Lotsa fun. I remember laying on my back listing to my dads stereo on cd 101 when it happened-and being where i was from i had to lay a certain way to enhance reception. Another classic. Unfortunately this has been co-opted for profit by bootleggers. ESSENTIAL |

Note:smeary cuts everywhere-this is a mess, unbalanced, songs cut multiple times and smear back in....but....i said but.............this is the famous audie tape that was obviously set near trs cabinet-because he is up front and in your face gtr-wise the whole show..the vocs are audible but never prominent..same with keys..if you wanted to hear what todd was playing on this tour gtr wise-this is an old but as clear of a view as youll ever get..as to listen to hear the band, its atrocious..but it is very worthy place and although it shows some sloppy playing at times and the wear of the same show for months, it shows some truly remarkable playing and parts writing and clarifies in a musician's mind exactly what tr was playing and what sounds roger was making in this famed tour/set..this was a source of great enjoyment for many in the old cassette days and its great to see it again..thanks mr f SORRY I HAD THIS AS BOSTON..IT IS THE ATL |

CITY OF TINY LIGHTS. KING KONG (BY RESIDENTS/SNAKEFINGER) Note:this was acquired from john pellerito and is surprisingly low on the yap factor being an nyc show. the sound is decent for an audience recording and presents the usual bttb set with utopia- you can tell the band is up for it and the sound is also surprisingly not that distant. bonus tracks are from an audience zappa show in stonybrook (L.I. ny) in 78. hey one of these days im gonna comile a sick cd of everytime willie ever said to the audience from 77-80 "y'all ready to rock and roll?..1,2,3,4..(into gangrene)"..just kidding but he stuck to the script for sure.. |

OUTRO/CREDITS (JOV END VAMP WITH TR SOLOING AS THE CREDITS ROLL). 9/1/78 BBC INTERVIEW WITH BOB KILBEY. 9/9/78 TR WITH THE TUBES LIVE AT KNEBWORTH (WHO SONGS) Note:as any fan knows, this tour damn near yielded great fm broadcasts in every city they hit. this was the last show of the tour before todd went to europe with the tubes to generate excitement about the upcoming remote control recording sessions. this has to be one of the best of the tour. im still in the process of refurbishing old stuff but i was very happy to find this very low gen (1st gen). roger really eats it up on this one, great solos on abandon city, and seven rays. this also may be the only time time todd has ever referred to himself as the "runt" before you cried wolf. the bcn interview has todd talking about the 78 midnight special show which follows it. the only time todd and co ever hosted the show. the outro is funny as todd just keeps on going... the 9/1/78 is 2 days later when todd alone hit the UK and he talks about his plans there and the performance at knebworth rounds it out. |

MY DREAM LIVES ON FOREVER (A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER). PLEASE LET ME GO (BLACK MARIA) Note:ah. Here it finally is. The crazy 70s boot lp that most of us oldtimers have that is obviously the product of someone who doesn't know shit about todd. The titles are funny. The record has the encyclopedia of rock listing for todd and gang and the "another live" inside shot on front. It also says 3/29/49? This is not todds bday, so i dont know what thats about. Probably comes from the same place "philadelphia" or "funky detroit madness" did. Nevertheless, this is a classic and long overdue addition to the todd stash. Maybe someone can do a shrink up of the artwork of the album? More lp stuff to be transferred in the near future (as of 6/25/01) plan to be 2 fer (bricks/handsome young devils-hello people; and retrospective foresight by the nazz (all you cheap trick fans alert) among many others in both lp and cassette (archive project). ive now (6/02) gotten a different version of this that is probably the correct date (8/26/78) from wxrt in chicago-essentially the same product... |

THE DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. BLACK AND WHITE. EASTERN INTRIGUE. INITIATION. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. Note:a nameless fan sent this to me- i tried to re-eq some (to good effect) to add to the archive project. The sound is clear but sounds to me as if it there was a large limiter somewhere in the process. It gets markedly (its not really ever that bad) better after death of r-n-r. This is an "in stride" performance from a band at their peak (in my opinion)-in other words, because of the gig schedule, i dont think the band ever again played as well as they did on this tour with this material, etc. here is a very good (but old) line recording that serves up a couple of ass whippin versions black and white and initiation just to show everyone how its supposed to be played and to remind everyone that utopia WAS THE best live performing band of that era-gig after gig-night after night. There will be more to come. |

BLACK MARIA Note:this is a bootleg cd- which means someone did the thing themselves, makes it look like official product and then sells it for cash with no money going to the artist..not a good thing to do to Todd/Utopia in my book..it sounds great like all the 78 bcasts do- missing probably a tune or 2 from the show..i wont pass on the artwork-evidently this is part of series of illegal shows for sale-they probably all sound good but i hope you all know i have absolutely nothing to do with it at all--you have to know how i feel about that by now. |

DEATH OF ROCK AND ROLL. YOU CRIED WOLF. GANGRENE. A DREAM GOES ON FOREVER. BLACK MARIA. CD TWO: EASTERN INTRIGUE. INITIATION. COULDNT I JUST TELL YOU. HELLO ITS ME. JUST ONE VICTORY. FM OUTRO. BONUS TRACKS: 1978 ROBERT MORGAN SPECIAL OF THE WEEK WXLO NYC I/V W/ TR. JUST ONE VICTORY? (W/ MEATLOAF LIVE 9/78) Note:i know the archive project has been stalled but its waking up now. I did this 78 dc show because my friends were there, the bayou is gone and it was a great performance. The sound is good but not perfect due to a noisy line coming from the radio station but it is fm and is actually quite good for the lost part. From my small hometown of keyser wv we packed the place with close to 50 of the crew but not me... i remember hearing the show at home due to an important college assignment. i can hear my name called out when todd talks about the broadcast and can hear tr friends i know to this day. What a trip. Roger really has a terrific soloing night as he did often in these days-the dueling solos on abandon shows what this band was all about. The effort tr gives vocally was always there..not even on a bad night could you ever say todd wasnt trying in these days..the band always left it on the stage with effort. Kaz hits a peak on verb and initiation (playing wise). Gangrene is a mess as usual during what todd calls " a pointless ego trip to prove why we play what we do".. This switching of instruments would soon end. Another great thing about this is the post show where it is revealed all shows are sold out for days to come. The energy is high, as said above and the usual kick of initiation into cijty is higher than normal octane. Todd talks about the his Papal wishes weirdly in connection with a dream goes on.. and the crowd chants "thai stick" before Maria. The bonus tracks feature a good 78 i/v tr talks about personal stuff incl childhood...btw the JOV on the meat cd (which cant be 9/1/78-todd was gone to the UK) is not really JOV but a soloing instrumental that permutes into JOV chords while todd noodles away-it is good but i dont see why this type of appearance. anyway, you can get the whole meat cd under the 9/1/78(sic) heading. Classic. More 78s to come from the series. |

RUNAWAY Note:again-dont know if this is still in OOP, im pretty sure it is- tr, kaz and rog all play on this album which heavily bears todds stamp and it works-one of the most underrated of all of todds productions, this one, like cheap trick, sank without much of a trace..the album has a concept..sex and rock and roll-you can tell by the song titles, but hey..this is really a strong album..also please note the bonus tracks here are decent songs but obviously (by hearing em) you can tell tr did not produce them..thanks to the man of steel | |||
