There is some disturbing things about Black and White. Most obvious are the cryptic and ominous lyrics, but there are some unsettling musical elements, too. The verse is phrased in odd-lengthed chunks: 2 3-bar phrases ("Stick to your guns" and "Diamonds are...", then a 2-bar phrase ("Nobody knows..."). It finally catches up to the ear's expection of regular 4-bar phrases at the word "...seen", where the listener is allowed some temporary relief. The net effect is a vague feeling that something is not quite right ("What's wrong with this picture??") I realized while listening to the studio version of this song that most of the guitar in this heavy guitar song... isn't a guitar! It's Roger Powell's clavinet, amplified and recorded much like a distorted electric guitar. Except for the intro, fills and solo, the clavinet is mixed much louder than the rhythm guitar. When you see something like "(*2)", see the corresponding note at the bottom. ================================================================= Black And White intro: E--|0----000|---0---0|--------|0-------| oo B--|0----000|---0---0|--------|0-------| |1|||| G--|2----245|---7---9|--------|7-------| |||||| The magic chord D--|2----245|---7---9|--------|7-------| ||34|| form used in the A--|0----023|---5---7|--------|5-------| |||||| intro and chorus. Don't use a proportional spaced font or the the chord diagrams and tabs will appear out of alignment and won't make sense. The letter to the left of the slash in chord names like "A/D" refers to a triad, and the letter to the right refers to the bass note only. The horizontal dashes in the tablature diagram correspond to 8th notes unless otherwise indicated. In some places I've added a space between the dashes in order to indicate frets higher than the 9th. The song remains in 4/4 time throughout. If you see any mistakes, or have any corrections or alternate ways of playing any of my tabs, I'd love to hear from you.
