"Shine" - Todd Rundgren From the album "Healer" (1981) Transcribed by Brian Canfield (dontpoll@aol.com) on 6/21/05 WARNING: This one isn't for guitarists! I've tried to break this down chord-by-chord, capturing all of Todd's subtle changes. I'm sure I went a bit overboard with this. Below, I've laid out a simpler version without as many rapid chord changes. As for keyboard players, it'll *greatly* help to know all major triads, as well as the first and second inversions for them. I've notated (1st) when the chord is to be played inverted once (example, a regular C major triad is played as C-E-G. Inverted once becomes G-E-C. Inverted again becomes E-G-C). And obviously, (2nd) means invert it twice. No paranthesis means just play the normal, non-inverted triad. This one is chock full of "Todd Chords", as well as a few spontaneous key changes. Oh, and this only covers the brief piano part at the beginning. The lengthy techno section is really the same idea, anyway. Eb (2nd) Now as the evening sun Eb (2nd) Bb(1st)/Eb F/Eb sets on you C/D F(1st)/D healer C/D C(2nd)/D C(1st)/D C/F F(1st) Your day is over, C(2nd)/F C(1st)/F C/F your light is G(2nd)/E D(1st)/E D(2nd)/E D/E D(2nd)/E fa ding a way at Eb(2nd) Bb(1st)/Eb Bb(2nd)/Eb Eb(1st) last.. (repeat the previous chords again) And the wolves howl after the healer Fighting for pieces, bits of his shattered remains C/F All who could know it Bm(2nd)/G A(2nd)/G First they curse you then they warn you so Bm(2nd)/G A(2nd)/G Bm(1st)/G A(1st)/G Then they use you and then they go on E(1st)/F# F#(2nd) 'Til they curse you and there's no more C#/B F#(2nd)/B And they turn off C#(1st)/B F#(2nd)/B C#/B all the light F#(2nd)/B D#m(2nd)/B C#(1st)/B that you were Eb(1st) Eb(2nd) Giving away.. And they burn off but they just don't seem to shine Is it all gone, is there no one who will shine? etc.. -------------- Here's an easier version: Eb Now as the evening sun Bb/Eb C/D F/D sets on you healer C/D C/F F Your day is over, G/E D/E Eb Bb/Eb your light is fading away at last And the wolves howl after the healer Fighting for pieces, bits of his shattered remains C/F All who could know it Bm/G A/G First they curse you then they warn you so Bm/G A/G Then they use you and then they go on E/F# F# 'Til they curse you and there's no more C#/B F#/B C#/B F#/B And they turn off all the light Eb that you were giving away And they burn off but they just don't seem to shine Is it all gone, is there no one who will shine?
