"Influenza", Todd Rundgren From the album "The Ever Popular Tortured Artist Effect" (1982) Transcribed by Brian Canfield on 6/27/05 (dontpoll@aol.com) This, of course, is a transcription of the original version, not the "With a Twist" version (although the latter may be the same, I haven't really listened to it close enough). Anyway, this is in the key of B (with the exception of an A#11 chord in the pre-chorus, which I've simplified as "G#/A#"). Other than that descending synth line in the verse, I haven't gone into great depth with the particular voicings, although this song isn't complex in that department as some of his others I've done. Again, (1st) means play the chord inverted once, etc. B/C# I can feel, I can tell I can feel, I can tell, I can see F#/G# B/G# Something is changing To me change is no stranger (synth line: B(1st) F# B(2nd) F#(1st), all over G#) B/C# I don't run, I don't hide I don't run, I don't hide, I don't fight F#/G# B/G# What fate arranges I don't think about danger G#m(2nd)/E B/E If it was meant for me D#m7 I'd know just where to go G#m7 But if I can take it slow G#/A# A# Then I might be in control In the back of my head In the back of my head there is doubt There is suspicion With my new fascination I don't know what it is I don't know what it is, you might say It's intuition It's a true indication I should trust myself I should beware of this But it's like a stranger's kiss And somehow I can't resist B/C# G#m/F# F# I can feel my will slip away G#m F#/G# From a strange influenza B/C# G#m/F# F# I can feel my mind slip away G#m F#/G# Under your influenza (etc.) I can feel my heart slip away Under your influenza There's a part of my heart There's a part of my heart that cries out Please go no further I just can't take the pressure So I try to resist So I try to resist and my heart Tells me don't bother That this pain is a pleasure If I were someone else I wouldn't disagree But it's always hard to see When something's controlling me
