"Back Of Your Mind" The Nazz From the album "Nazz" (1968) Transcribed by Brian Canfield Yay, another guitar heavy song that I won't be able to give much justice to. But the riff is so cool, I had to at least figure that out. It's like a poor man's "Sunshine of Your Love", and I mean that as a compliment. We're in the Key of F# here (ugh), for the record. Here's my try at the main riff. The bass doubles this, as well. And I'm not entirely sure if that's the position on the neck where he plays it..but at the very least, I think the basic notes are right. E---------------------------------------------------------------- B---------------------------------------------------------------- G---------------------------------------------------------------- D---4--4--2-3-4-------------------------------------------------- (x3) A-----------------2-2--0-1-2------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- F# B As usual, this is my best approximation, as I'm no guitar pro. Also, listen to the recording to get an idea about the timing, because I don't really know how to notate that sort of stuff with tab. Then this is played right before the vocals come in: E---------------------------------------------------------------- B---------------------------------------------------------------- G---------------------------------------------------------------- D---2-3-4--2----------------------------------------------------- A---------------------------------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- Verse: E---------------------------------------------------------------- B---------------------------------------------------------------- G------------------------4--2------------------------------------ D----------------2-3-4---------4----2-3-4------------------------ A--0-1-2------------------------------------2-------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- "You know you..dont have to tell me.." E---------------------------------------------------------------- B---------------------------------------------------------------- G------------------------4--2------------------------------------ D----------------2-3-4---------4----2-3-4------------------------ A--0-1-2--------------------------------------------------------- E--------------------------------------------2------------------- "What makes a man angry.." The bass pretty much doubles all of that. Repeat those last two parts again, then onto the pre-chorus. Pre-Chorus: Mostly just power chord type riffs here by Todd, from what I can hear. So for this following part, you don't play that B chord just once..it's stummed many times..same for the part in C#. E---------------------------------------------------------------- B---------------------------------------------------------------- G-----4---------------------------------------------------------- D-----4---------------------------------------------------------- A---------------------------------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- B "Smilin' here waiting for.." A second guitar plays something like this after the words "Waste of Time" E---------------------------------------------------------------- B---14b16---12h14p12--------------------------------------------- G---------------------------------------------------------------- D---------------------------------------------------------------- A---------------------------------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- B---------------------------------------------------------------- G-----6----4---3------------------------------------------------- D-----6----4---4------------------------------------------------- A---------------------------------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- C# "You might get away.." E---------------------------------------------------------------- B---------------------------------------------------------------- G---6--------6----4---------------------------------------------- D---6---6----6----4---------------------------------------------- A-------4-------------------------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- C# B Chorus: Actually, this pretty much uses the same riffs and stuff from the intro. Verse: Same as above Pre-Chorus: Same as before, except, the little fill on the second guitar (after the words "Do It Right") is a slightly different: E---------------------------------------------------------------- B---17b19r--15--------------------------------------------------- G---------------16v----------------------------------------------- D---------------------------------------------------------------- A---------------------------------------------------------------- E---------------------------------------------------------------- Solo: Uhh..maybe later. It mostly uses the F# minor pentatonic scale; certainly not in one position though. There's also a few parts that use F# Mixolydian (which contains the same notes as the B Major scale) And the rest of the song is just repeats of previous parts. Questions/Comments: dontpoll@aol.com
