Review of May 9 show in Plymouth NH

The show at the Flying Monkey was among the best TR concerts I've seen over the years. Once you accepted the format -- DJ, minimal live instrumentation (besides the synth and brief smattering of guitar), lights and video -- the evening progressed flawlessly and the flow was energetic from start to finish.

Todd was in excellent voice (much better than he sounded on the brief bit of the Yahoo livestream) and came across with great vibrancy and devotion to the material. The "Global" tracks were all well-presented and enthusiastically received; more folks seemed familiar with the new material than some of the other reviews indicated for those audiences. The tracks from "Liars" and "State" nicely dovetailed with the EDM approach, and even the greatest hits medley was brisk and Todd seemed invested in those brief performances.

On our way in we chatted with a local; he "loved" Todd but his all-time favorite was the Rolling Stones. Well, let's see -- when's the last time they put out a new album... or played a show consisting of nearly all-new material. While it was definitely an older crowd at the show, I didn't see anyone with fingers in their ears or walking out during the show. Instead, there was tremendous love directed at Our Hero and if it had been an open floor there would have been a lot of dancing going on!

Very little chatter from Todd during the show but he left the stage with a big smile on his face, almost as big as ours!

A really nice venue -- a converted movie theater, so comfortable seating on the floor and the "VIP" set up puts you at either elevated tables or up on the balcony, advertised as the "best seats in the house" and including dinner from a limited but tasty menu.
