I had been eagerley looking forward to my first date of the tour - and the fact that Todd was playing York added to it - I live in Hull - just 37 miles away ! life is truly great sometimes !! After picking my girlfriend Nicky up from work we arrived in York for 6-15 - managed to hook up with Jojo and Tim before the show - very nice people - and after a quick drink at the bar we got our front row seats and settled down to enjoy the show . Ethel were terrific - a string quartet with attitude ! a real eclectic set - superb musicianship combined with great sense of humour - got me thinking how much another one of my heroes Frank Zappa would have loved them - they seemed really happy to be playing and got a great reception . Joe was quickly up next - and I really enjoyed his set , very passionate , superb playing and an engaging personality , the the only bad news for me though was that at the end of his set Nicky said '' I need some Joe Jackson CD's !!'' . We then had a short interval and ice cream was on offer by the staff - ROCK N ROLL !!!! I resisted a vanilla as I had to drive home . Todd was just fantastic , mixing up the set list again - he seemed in a really good mood and his performance reflected it - he was incredible - highlights for me were Afterlife , LOTCM and a storming version of The Wheel - but everything was great - Joe is a hard act to follow but Todd was up to it . We then had a beautiful Pretending To Care before Joe rejoined and then the other highlight was the second live performance of Stood Up which worked really well. Last song was of course WMGGW and they were gone . Just time for a qick pint and then we waited for Todd to come out the stage door - after half an hour Joe came out but made a quick escape , Todd from Ethel came out and spoke to us - really nice guy . Then Todd emerged and happily posed for photos and signed everything handed to him - what a guy . A great evening and looking forward to Leicester tonight.
