Sounds like a different show from the one I saw. And I guess different nights go different ways. What I am surprised at is your comment "When did he become so pompously cynical?" I would have to say one of the things I enjoy most about Todd is his ability to touch my belief system in such a profound way and maintain his cynic humor about the whole thing at the same time. Being able to laugh and weep at the same thing is part of my view on life. Pompous? Well, yeah, sometimes though I always thought it was somewhat self degrading. I would say more likely erratic and prone to having a snit now and then. We all got our stuff. And while we all love to hear things the way we heard it original, can you imagine having to PLAY it that way for 20 years? Musicians change, rearrange and experiment, it is part of growth. Granted I haven't always cared for some of his experimenting but I didn't go see him when he was touring stuff I didn't like.
