What a great night! First of all, a fine singer/songwriter from
Winston-Salem, NC, Jerry Chapman (Triad music lovers remember him from Urban
Edge, Two Pound Planet and Life In General) opened the show with a spirited
set highlighted by his great guitar and harmonica playing. Then OH took the
stage at 9:25pm after admitting to being "very confused" on the drive over
to the theatre. He broke a string on his opening song and had to switch to
piano for a sterling reading of "It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference."
Later, during Todd's scheduled piano set, he played that song again without
even realizing it. When a fan pointed that out, Todd shook his head and
grinned; "I told you I was confused tonight." Very few musical gaffes. In
fact, Todd's playing was terrific. Don't believe what you hear; this guy
still has chops to burn. I swear he did a flub on "Hello It's Me" on
purpose because the rest of the song was spot on. This may have been the
best solo Todd show since my first show in 1981.
